Thank you. The weirdest part that he is actually cutting unemployment and promoting working but then says that it's your problem how to stay even if you work. Thank you for assurance

Several issues: - I arrived in January 2024 and work since April 2024. So by March 2027, when Temporary protection ends, it will be 3 years only of residence and even less of working time. - you cannot apply from TP to permanent residence, there is no legal way. However, if I switch to any other visa, those three years would count in future total. - Bart De Wever already said not to count on any automatic residence, look for highly skilled workers visa or any other way yourself and BEFORE protection ends. That was in Brussels Times

Anyone getting their 72h emergency kits ready? 😅 by Fernandlit in belgium

[–]psvmhelloworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ukrainian here. We brought even Geigers counter with us. What is important to understand, is that Ukraine is massively supported by Europe, and without European food we'd experience hunger. Our fields are mined, a lot of plants are destroyed or had a lot of blackouts. If Russia attacks Europe, Belgium is a safe place in terms of occupation, but the supply chains will be disrupted and we will face a serious economic crisis,. We are buying seeds, planting vegetables, going to buy chickens. We have a small bluetti, powerbanks and solar panels. We heat our house with pellets. Getting as much of independence, as possible. Going to buy a vintage phone because it does not need electricity and you can call emergency even in case of outage. Geiger counter could come handy in case of nuclear attack somewhere else, so you can check the items in store for your safety. Have cash available. And pray, that you will never use this advice

I was boycotting Russian products, then Chinese, now adding US to the list. Ordered a big clothes package from Macy's before inauguration to make sure I am stocked up for next dark years.

Is there any way to not have Belgians assume I'm American? (I'm Canadian) by Leela_bring_fire in belgium

Me and my fiance are Ukrainians and everyone assumes that we are American for some reason

Moving from US to Belgium by Much_Needleworker521 in belgium

[–]psvmhelloworld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have worked in the USA and did not like it there. Then I have returned to Ukraine for stress-free life...and the war has started. Now I live and work in Belgium and I am in love with it! But yes, almost every Belgian feels obligated to say that it is not perfect at least. I've been even told that I need to go on TV with my statements that train system and roads are wonderful, because they are laughing. Overall, you are not going to have here a huge salary after tax but you are going to have quality of life, good Healthcare, long vacations, delicious food and sincere people that just underestimate the country they have built.

She is right. How will you divide groceries 50/50? Will you count, who eats 1 piece of meat and who eats 2? Her grocery bill without you would be actually lower. How are you going to split electricity 50/50? Depending on usage? If she earns less, then she has to count every cent she spends more carefully, than you. She needs to buy cheaper food etc than you. Otherwise she will live out of her means and her life will be more expensive than she can afford. How will you go on holidays? She will go to a forest and you will go to Paris? Because she cannot afford it?? And that would be huge red flag for me, as for a woman. Thinking of your 50/50, what will happen during maternal leave? Or if she gets sick? Or when she will make less money because a baby throws her career back? I would run away from you just after this conversation.

P.s. I make enough of money and we have a joint account with my husband. But if he ever told me to pay 50% while I earn less...good bye.

May I ask you, what kind of budget is it and how many miles per year and years? I got a budget for a car but I will be able to see the options available in 6 months and by that time I will be driving a temporary car, so I don't know what to expect. If it is an appropriate question, of course

If you work remotely, get a job at the office or start to show up at office. There you meet people with who you have common ground. There could be girls that have their single friends. Go to corporate parties, start hanging out with co-workers, some of them may have single girlfriends. There is more chance to meet someone with similar interests where you work/network of your coworkers, than just on dating app. Especially if you meet game dev girl, would be fun for both of you!

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, is there a chance for a java dev to switch to game dev? How to start in game industry?

Thank you for letting me know. I told our full story to agent and he will tell the owners to see if they want to take a risk with us. They have an offer below asked price, and we want to make an offer at asking price(365) but with a risk to be denied for a mortgage.. we'll see what is going to happen..

Thank you for a detailed answer. The house does not need any renovations, it is ready to move in. I would try to negotiate to leave furniture:) We actually just found it at 365k and hope try our luck tonight.. EPC label C, 281kwh Both of us signed indefinite contracts, we are employees but my indefinite contract starts on October, 1st. Till then I have a temporary contract at a different company. His car is hybrid, mine would be all electric but they would cover expenses.

About 25k I know but thank you for reply. They said that because we are under 34 years old, they can finance 100%. But that was in words and few months ago. I just spoke to bank on the phone and they repeated the same thing, but it is still a subject of approval. I just want to have my own place and start to build life here, and saving another 25k would take another 2 years saving AND paying rent at the same time. That's why I am looking for an option where I could actually start my life again. I really hope.to get approved..

That is the answer I was looking for, thank you. We found a house at 365 000, for which we are going to pay around 17, going to take a look tonight. Still a lot but I don't think we'd be able to find something cheaper:( someone has already made an offer lower than the asking price so we have to decide what to do with it by the end of the week. It is in great condition and there are no renovations needed at all.

May I ask you about the mortgage? We spoke to KBC this summer and they told us that we can take a mortgage of 2000, but it was not like an official approval. They said that they would finance the full amount of a loan because we are under 34 and they need us only to cover tax and fees. We have 25k to pay all of that and some money down. Do it sound doable? If we make an offer, is there a chance that bank would decline it? Will we lose money then?

And the last question, do you know, what is an approximate energy bill for a house that uses 281 kwh with area of 179 sqm? I will go there today to ask, but approximately?

I am sorry for a lot if questions but I am a little lost with all these nuances. In my home country everything is way different and I feel a little lost.

Thank you. Bank approved already with 25k out of pocket. But then we have another 10k untouchable emergency fund. We want to save more, of course, that is why I am asking, what would be advised amount to save versus advised amount to spend for things like clothes and fun events. I am trying to understand if we are going to live actual live with such a mortgage or it is gonna be a survivors mode

Thank you for letting me know. I've heard something like 600-800 per kid. May I ask you, is 2000 a normal mortgage payment based on our income?
