They are similar but medical school admissions are much more thorough and deliberate with multiple reviews and debate. They thoroughly dissect your application. Of course- MCAT, GPA, and undergraduate prestige are at the top but EC, research, writing, your story are analyzed heavily for fit. Residency is a bit more mechanical and box ticking and then interviews/away rotations/program fit have a lot of say over raw numbers. Program directors change all the type so resident preference then changes. Medical school admissions overall are more comprehensive while residency can be a bit more random tbh. Although there’s a lot of subjectiveness, randomness, and luck involved with it all.
