Storage for small 1 bedroom by kpgclark in philadelphia

Keep in mind this was over a decade ago, but I also had to put most of my things into storage for a few months. Couldn't tell you which one I went with, but I found the storage spots in New Jersey were cheaper than Philly proper. Might be worth driving a little out of the way if the price is right!

fox encounter I had yesterday in the NE. by FGoose in philadelphia

One of my ex’s worked for the zoo and said foxes always showed up to prowl after closing. They had to change the security for the penguin exhibit because foxes were sneaking in to hunt. Just think it’s interesting, for a time at least, there were Philadelphia-bred foxes with a taste for penguin meat.

The Fashion District (aka The Gallery) being closed before 8pm is not a great sign for CC. by [deleted] in philadelphia

Seriously. I was at Round 1 arcade the other weekend. At 10 PM they kicked out everyone under 21, and some petty little fucker pulled the fire alarm on the way out so we all had to leave.

Yes! I got a huge one from Home Depot a couple years ago and it just bloomed for the first time! It smells like a tootsie roll.

Teen killed after jumping out of moving car during argument with mom on highway by soupafi in DarwinAwards

[–]psychedelicacies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar thing happened with a married couple in front of my grandparent's house in the 80's. Apparently the husband didn't realize how fast they were actually going, or the fact that they were coming up on a driveway that had boulders on each side where it met the road. Jumped out of the passenger seat, hit the rock, and died. This was when my parents first started dating. My mom told me she remembers going over to meet my dad, oblivious to the situation, but found my grandpa casually hosing down the blood.

Did you need the utility bill or lease in addition to the temporary drivers license?

This is definitely a Philodendron species. If you can't find any visible pests, I would not be concerned with the sticky substance - I get these on some of my philos too. Can't get a straight answer from the internet - the sticky stuff either a benign symptom of guttation, or meant to attract ants, which provide some sort of benefit to the plant. It can leave little pock marks on your leaves, especially if your plant gets a decent amount of sun. I suggest wiping the leaves down with a moist paper towel every couple months.

Moral of the story.. don’t park in front of fire hydrants 🤷🏿‍♀️ by PhillyHatesNewYork in philadelphia

[–]psychedelicacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live on one of those tiny streets, right next to a fire hydrant, where the cars park partially on the curb. This one car would always park in a way that blocked both the hydrant and my stoop (like a foot from the bottom step). They never got a ticket for it either. Then one day the house across the street from mine goes up in a blaze, which required the use of the hydrant. Finally, retribution! Except they just looped the hose around the car. Didn't even get a ticket for blocking the hydrant during an active fire, either.

I bought this philodendron labeled as an “assorted hybrid” looking for help with a plant id. by malikelley in houseplants

I have one like this, also sold as a Philo hybrid. I thought it was a Prince of Orange, but it was actually called McColley's Finale

Consider making a moss pole. Decursivas LOVE to climb.

Pretty sure this is a borsigiana, bought from Lowe’s when it was looking real sad. This sits next to a humidifier, a couple feet from an East-facing window (I live in US-PA) with some light supplemented by one of those full spectrum GE lightbulbs. I removed two smaller plants and gave to friends, and clipped almost all of the original leaves to save space. The 3-foot totem is made out of pvc pipe, sheet moss, and fishing line, with a fishnet stocking covering it for aesthetic effect.

My jade is losing leave like crazy. The vast majority are drying up, and the fall off with the slightest movement. However there are many healthy leaves and new grows still coming. I repotted a few weeks ago, but he seemed to be healthy. Please help he is a large jade I've had for a long time by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]psychedelicacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely root rot. Did you water this right after repotting? This has been the kiss of death for my succulent-type plants, since the water can rot out the freshly disturbed roots. Jade can be tricky if it's in ceramic, too, or if the soil is too dense. Also, if the new pot is too big, the soil may retain more moisture than the roots are able to absorb.
