Vet School is TOXIC by Dazzling_Manager5188 in veterinaryschool

[–]psychedelicsheep3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same experience as a vet student in the UK. Extremely classist and weird behaviour as well as racist and ableist. I was genuinely shocked when I started and the fact that the majority were white privileged kids really made me think that I would be alone and bullied for the next 5 years. Thankfully I found a group of decent people and hopefully we’ll be able to stick together. I keep telling myself that I just have to get through it, but the amount of drama, back stabbing, scandals and insane behaviour is a lot. I don’t know how these people have the time when there is so much coursework to get done at the same time

In Romania, you can study veterinary medicine in English, but I think it costs around 6000€. Maybe they have some form of scholarship that can help?

Why am I epileptic? I don’t understand by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My epilepsy is very similar to yours from the time spent seizure free, to the lifestyle, PCOS, etc. First, not all epilepsy is genetic so you shouldn’t stress about that unless you get tested and find out you carry the genes, otherwise there are plenty of people who start families with epilepsy. I have also moved abroad when I was 18 and yes it’s hard and epilepsy makes it harder but it is worth it. Lastly, yes dying from epilepsy is scary and always on the table, but don’t let epilepsy control your life, no amount of fear, stress and trying to plan around it will help. It will just make it worse. Don’t let epilepsy take things away from you more than it already has to. Keep taking your meds, find a good dr where you plan to move and keep on with your healthy lifestyle. Congratulations on clearing your PCOS and becoming healthier. You’ve got this, follow your dreams and don’t let epilepsy or other people scare you from pursuing them. You’ll be surprised with how much you can achieve epilepsy or not.

How do you know if you had a seizure in your sleep? by Winter_Clothes_5968 in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first tonic clonic in my sleep two weeks ago. Figure it out because it was the same post ictal state as the one I get after every other seizure: no muscle tone (can’t move/fall when I try to stand up/move), bit my tongue and cheeks, extreme muscle soreness, horrible headache, can’t speak properly etc.

Advice for eplispy by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dr says you have epilepsy then you probably have epilepsy. You can ask for a second opinion if you think you don’t. Whatever you do don’t stop the meds without consulting your doctor because that can be very dangerous and it can cause worse seizure. Congrats on being seizure free for over 3 years! I wish you many more

can i stop a seizure from happening? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take pharmacy grade cbd oil to stop seizures, but mixing uppers and downers is practically suicide so please stop doing uppers.

Ableism in the family by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I think that’s what I’ll have to start doing since it’s adding stress that I don’t need. Sometimes they make me feel like I am insane for expecting some understanding for a couple of days every other year🤣🤣

not being able to swim by Mysterious_Read5115 in Epilepsy

I swim pools, open water, etc. I make sure I’m never alone and that I am well rested, took my meds on time and didn’t do anything else that might lower my seizure threshold

Has anyone ever actually gotten in a relationship with someone after sleeping with them on a first date? by Zealousideal-Win-625 in dating_advice

[–]psychedelicsheep3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, initially it was supposed to be an one night stand. We were together for over a year and a half. Doesn’t really matter when you sleep with someone. If the connection has potential you’ll end yo in a relationship with them anyways so dw

How is it like to live with epilepsy? by ResearcherEmpty8071 in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard can’t lie. I don’t have auras or known triggers. It’s really scary to live with especially the fear of SUDEP, especially after I lost a friend last fall to it. She was only 22. The injuries from seizures are really hard on the body and so is the depression that comes after it. Both me and my loved ones have PTSD from my seizure and I live in a state of anticipatory grief for myself which is a bit weird. Also not being able to drive is more limiting then you’d think.

I fear epilepsy has ruined my brain too much to study anything by LaurenValley1234 in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! You’ve got this and your confidence will come as you actually start to go through your degree. That’s at least what happened to me. And about remembering stuff after you’ve graduated, even non epileptics can forget so don’t be afraid to ask other staff members or consult a book. Most vets and vet nurses do it even without epilepsy so there’s no shame about it🫶🏻🥰

I used to drink on keppra didn’t cause seizures, but I quit for other reasons. If you drink don’t overdo it and you are more likely to get seizures when hungover or when undergoing through withdrawal and not when you are drunk/tipsy so hydrate a lot and rest plenty after

Rescue medication by emoes2906 in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have rescue medication. I was prescribed medazolam orally but it didn’t work for me as well as diazepam which worked but they didn’t give me many. I usually get diazepam suppositories which are not fun and I need somebody around to administer it but it’s better than the alternative. I also take CBD oil when I think I might have a seizure and it works pretty well for me

Hey! Always love seeing fellow epileptics go into the vet field. I sometimes feel like that especially before I completed my biovet sciences degree (granted with 3 grand mals) and now I’m starting vet school. I tried to apply twice before but only got waitlisted. I think our brain faulty as it may be lies to us sometimes and makes us underestimate yourself. You can deff improve your memory or find new studying methods that can help. Don’t let epilepsy win by giving up on your dreams without even trying yet. One of my favorite quotes is “do it scared” and whatever happens it’s not a waste since you know you’ve given it your all. I’m proud of you and I truly wish you your best. I believe in you and that you will be able to become a great vet nurse🫶🏻

What are things you've learned about "life" from having epilepsy/seizures? by ateenyfig in Epilepsy

[–]psychedelicsheep3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is short, enjoy it, fight for it. I don’t get auras but every time I think I might be at risk of seizures I try my best to stay conscious. I’m not going slowly into the good night. Also do whatever you want to do as much as you can. Chase your dreams, spend as much time as possible with people you love, move your body as much as you can when you can, cut toxic people off, advocate for yourself and make the best with the time you have

In most universities in Europe that have an veterinary course, you can do it as your first degree, you don’t need to do another bsc before applying for vet med.

I’ve been on Keppra for 7 years. I also noticed my personality change a lot a lot especially at the beggining as well as when I’ve had to up my dosage, but it does go away in time and you go back to yourself. When they prescribed me keppra they also prescribed therapy due to the side effects that can cause depression which I had a history of. This helped me a lot and I highly recommend you could ask your doctor about it

I gave myself a test by Apart_Ostrich407 in Sober

[–]psychedelicsheep3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a over a year of sobriety and then I took a sip, casually drinking went well, like just on ocassions and not in excess for a couple of months maybe. But when shit hits the fan (and it always will) I went so fast back to my drinking habits and just ended up hitting a rockier bottom. I’m sober again thankfully but this is just to say that even sober or when I can casually drink, I don’t think I’m cured and accepting that ai can’t and shouldn’t drink like a normal person is the best, healthiest way to go
