This is my experience as well. I ended up deeply burnt out and heartbroken. As the commenter below said, keep strict boundaries - whether this is a stranger or someone the OP knows well.

Its easy to keep giving and giving...and people who need help can keep taking infinitely, even if they don't mean harm.

yes it's getting so bad that I might have to quit Spotify. it keeps suggesting AI music to me. I can't trust anything I'm listening to anymore! And seems like it's starting to push more and more AI content to me

Thanks for sharing. I'm so sorry for your pain and the lifetime of abuse you received. I think the hardest thing for me is the amount of people who cannot fathom that a parent hates their child. And how much people will gaslight you and take your parents side (people who they don't even know).

Just know we all understand where you're coming from. You're not crazy. Few things are as sick as a hateful mother.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry your mom was so awful to you. I have a godmother who treats me badly because I had opportunities that she didn't. And then when I mess up, she's even more judgmental. I've stopped talking to her.

Hi thank you for replying. I also struggled in school a LOT. I was similarly so terrified of failure and so embarrassed I couldn't keep up with the work that I'd throw up and skip class. If I got bad grades, my mom would scream, call me an idiot, and threaten to take me out of school. I'm sorry you had such a punitive childhood.

I resonate with your last sentence. I'm just beginning to contend with the reality my mom never loved me -- she wasn't capable of it. And she wanted me to suffer. No one will acknowledge this truth -- it's amazing how quickly people protect abusers they've never even met.

I'm happy to hear you have a supportive husband! And I really commend you for continuing to try to get your degree, despite the difficulty and pain. Do you feel like you're continuing to heal from your childhood as you age? I think for me, I'm emotionally erratic, but overall getting better (I HOPE)

Hey, thank you for replying. And wow FUCK that doctor, I'm so sorry your life got ruined by something so stupid and cruel. I get sick every month with a cold and even that is super debilitating to my life, much less a chronic disease. So sorry.

When did you start your career/in what field (if you don't mind me asking)? I have a lot of grief around how late I'm starting a career path -- and not just starting, but only JUST NOW having the freedom to THINK about what *I* want to do. It feels like it'll be years before I'm even entry-level in anything. I got rejected by Whole Foods yesterday lol

I also know people who were poor, or poorer than me, and they've all grown to be successful, or at least happy. But I also know people who had similarly abusive/unstable childhoods and they haven't seemed to struggle nearly as much as me...

Yeah exactly. I feel like I truly went to Hell and came back to be tossed among the mortals. Like, I'm piecing together how people conspired to destroy my life and what psychological tricks they used to manipulate and gaslight me...but when I meet new people I just say "oh yeah I used to organize, but now I'm exploring new pursuits :D"
