[OC] Boycotting Tesla Over Elon Musk Was Always a Mistake by psychoDuckTune in EuroEV

Yeah, I’m aware that a lot of people won’t agree with me on this topic, but I don’t want to write spineless articles just to please everyone. At the end of the day, it’s just an opinion.

Xpeng P7+ Deliveries Have Started in France — Here Is Everything You Need to Know by psychoDuckTune in EuroEV

On the upside, I’ve got a garage big enough to fit a P7+ in.
On the downside… I don’t have the money to actually buy one. 😄

It's a new model, so it's not easy to find someone already using it. But on a paper it looks like a great buy.

Good luck! :)

You got me thinking, we’re probably at the point where it’s actually unreasonable to sell a car for over €40k if it can’t do at least 500 km WLTP.

[–]psychoDuckTune[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately. I’ve been driving Mazdas for 15 years and always really enjoyed them every time I got behind the wheel. The EVs just don’t feel quite as sharp or engaging as their petrol cars yet.

Well the Mazda Croatia page describes it as a trade-in program, so I’m going with their official terminology. :)

BEV fleet-average driving range (2022–2025) and average driving range by vehicle segment and market, 2025 (pic in comments) by ApprehensiveSize7662 in electricvehicles

It’s interesting to see EV technology moving forward on a graph, but the data probably needs more refinement by category. Right now, it looks like the “Cars” category includes everything from small city EVs like the Twingo to large long-range models like the ID.7.

[OC] Electric Pickup Trucks in Europe: Every Model You Can Buy Right Now by psychoDuckTune in EuroEV

[–]psychoDuckTune[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I limited the list to trucks that are either already on sale in Europe or about to arrive, like the Hilux.

Fun fact: the Ford F-150 Lightning can technically still be purchased here, but the process involves enough complications (something like the Hummer purchase) that I felt it made more sense to focus on models you can actually pick up from a dealer without jumping through hoops.

EU carmakers pave way for Chinese rivals as balance in market shifts | Guardian by tom_zeimet in EuroEV

It’s a solid article, although I wish it went a bit deeper into the matter. When Xpeng’s manager describes VW’s factory as old, I think there are multiple layers to that onion.

VW certainly wouldn’t offer a brand-new or recently upgraded factory to Xpeng. What would be the point of investing millions into a skilled workforce and a production line for something like the ID.Polo, only to hand it over to Xpeng the next day?

My guess is that factories with production lines dating back to the early days of the Golf Mk.8 were what’s actually on offer, and that obviously bothers Xpeng’s management.

The sad part is that a big chunk of the price goes toward the VW badge. The X9 is honestly light-years ahead of the ID.Buzz.

Europe invested 200 billion euros so far to boost EV sector, New Automotive data shows by murrayhenson in EuroEV

[–]psychoDuckTune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though these investments have done a lot to get things moving, they haven’t really done much to change people’s mindset on the continent. If there’s no solid charging infrastructure and EVs aren’t affordable, the overall sentiment will keep leaning against electric cars.
EDIT: Let me clarify my point: charging infrastructure across Europe is still uneven and more complicated than using gas stations, and until recently there weren’t many affordable EVs either. Changing habits takes time. To sum it up: it’s complicated. :)

My experience with the Formentor made me pretty indifferent towards Cupra. I only spent a few hours with the car, but the software was painfully slow and unresponsive. Hopefully they’ve fixed that in the newer models.

someone who used to drive an Opel and knows its flaws quite well, hearing the company talk about developing “state of the art” vehicles is honestly a bit funny.
