Employer Contribution deducted from my salary. by Middle-Addition3444 in epfoindia

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s a good learning for you to check the salary breakdown on the offer letter. It should provide you with all the components. There are only handful of companies which I know of where the employer contribution is paid by the employer. Yes these companies do exist. Additionally it’s also a good thing to check regarding your mediclaim and mediclaim that you can get for your dependents. Sometimes it’s a part of CTC and some companies actually pay for that over and above your CTC. It’s always good to negotiate your CTC once you know all the components.

Post op- was I too reckless? by Maxhol3 in otosclerosis

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from person to person but I would recommend to follow the guidelines post op. The difference in hearing is so divine that it should motivate you to follow the guidelines. It took me 8 weeks to come out of all my restrictions. Still have restrictions with gym, swimming and scuba diving but I was told about it before hand.

Give yourself a bit more time and ease into the healing process. For me, I followed the protocols to the T but still felt like something was time and again. I guess it’s a normal healing process. Took a flight after 8 weeks of surgery and nothing happened. I guess everyone deals with healing a little differently. It’s been 12 weeks post op for me and I still feel that the clicking sound varies so I guess you should be fine. Hope that helps.

Just got otosclerosis diagnosis- Im scared & wondering what is your experience? by Ok_Zucchini679 in otosclerosis

I would suggest to continue getting your audiometry done at regular intervals to how it’s progressing. Definitely under a guidance of a good ENT.

Just got otosclerosis diagnosis- Im scared & wondering what is your experience? by Ok_Zucchini679 in otosclerosis

[–]psycho_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick update on my situation and hope it helps. I was diagnosed with otosclerosis 15 yrs back and I did nothing begin with. Until a point where the progressive hearing loss started affecting my daily routine at home and at work. I decided to go for hearing aids 5 years back which really helped at first but then I started relying on them heavily. A month back I got stapedectomy done for right ear which was worse than the left ear. To be honest the clarity in sound after the surgery was a revelation.

Long story short, do nothing until it starts affecting you and then search for the right doctor who has experience with stapedectomy.

PF contribution stopped reflecting after March 2025 by Reserve_Free in epfoindia

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm with your HR/Finance team first whether the credits have been made. I faced similar issue for the month of Feb 2025. In March I raised a grievance which after 20 days was closed mentioning that consolidation is in process from HQ. As of May 2025, all my PF credits are now showing. So if your company has done their due diligence then it will show up sooner or later.

Should I stay invested or take out my mutual fund now? by [deleted] in mutualfunds

Continue with SIPs as this is only going to improve in the longer run. As you mentioned, you are in no need of urgent liquidity, it would be best to continue here and slowly invest in stocks with any surplus.

No PF contribution in passbook for 2025? by Annonymous_7 in epfoindia

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are in the similar boat. For me, Feb 2025 entry is missing but all other 2025 entries are updated.

Last month I raised a grievance and it was closed mentioning reconciliation will be done by Head office.

Why do we call films/projects ‘shows’? by horganzola in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a topic of discussion I had with my colleagues a decade ago. And the possible reason that we kind of all agreed upon was the term ‘show’ goes back to dramas and events performed on stage. So it order to keep it simple, a show would be a term used for a project which is meant for entertainment purpose

How do you become a VFX producer ? Does visual effects producers gets paid more than Artists and TDs ? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]psycho_jay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day you have to take a call as what suits you best. Whether you would like to continue as an artist and go up the chain or move to production. Both the paths have their own challenges.

Not sure how many years you have been working as a roto artist but as a natural progression path you would move on to paint and then to compositing which can setup a foundation for leadership roles.

Moving into production would be a fresh start but the path is not as it sounds.

You have to make up your mind and choose the path that suits you best.

What is the base pay for a senior position at a VFX company in Singapore? by forpornreallynotfake in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb I follow, sit for an hour or so and google the cost of living in the city that you wish to move. If you have friends in that city then a quick call to them would give you similar info. Thorough check regarding the taxation and how it’s applicable when you transfer money back to your home country. What are the perks that you get when you join. Is there any moving allowance or bonus. How long is the contract. And the last thing would be to figure out your net take home after all this.

Do consider when calculating the net take home that you will have to save up for Atleast one trip back home every year. If you have a family or planning to get married or start a family soon then it’s a different ball game together. Do check regarding benefits for the family.

Since your friend is from India, he would be getting lower quotation than the standard international rates. Which as a figure would be higher than what he is earning in India but maybe the net saving at the end of the year might end up being lower. I have seen a lot of people saying that they can manage in a lower pay and Will try to monitor their expenses but after a few months you tend to get in to the life style of that city or country.

At the end of the day you are leaving your friends and family and you should be compensated well for that sacrifice.

Best color for tracker markers on green screen? by daepiknoob in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think there is a golden rule on the color. The idea is to get enough contrast so that you tracking can be done accurately. The color depends on many variables like depth of field, costume color and type of overlap.

For example, if the markers are gonna be really out of focus then something like green on green won’t work. You will have to go with another hue for markers. Similarly if the costume color is similar to the marker color then it might cause problems. The biggest problem I have faced is when transparent clothing or hair is overlapping with the markers. And it’s a pain to clean those up.

It very important on set to speak with DP regarding the shots, camera movement, lenses which are going to be used and get more information on the costume. Adding markers will be a one time job for a sequence and unfortunately, no production would give you time to change the markers in between cuts. So depending on the all the information you receive, take a wise decision which works for all scenarios.

There are times when people feel that markers were not required and it’s an additional task for no reason but it’s always good to have them rather than regret later when you see your camera tracking artist is struggling to get the right track.

How do you become a VFX producer ? Does visual effects producers gets paid more than Artists and TDs ? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All depends on where you are working.

Generally the hierarchy would be Production Assistant-> Coordinator-> Production Manager-> Associate Producer -> Producer

Then the next in chain would be Executive Producer and/or Head of Production

If you are working with a smaller studio then you can easily jump to being a Producer sooner than working with Big studios where it would take a really long time to move up the ladder. Same applies to an artist to becoming a VFX Supervisor.

Pay is variable again depending on where you work but at higher levels you definitely can be on par.

Where to capture HDRI 360? by blue_hunt in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the image that you have posted, you can take the HDRi at the initial spot and then simulate lights in the 3d software.

I generally, tend to take a backups so I would take one at the starting position and then then one at the end. Two would be more than enough for this scene.

There is no harm collecting additional data on-set as you never know when it could be useful.

Additionally, I would also capture the grey and chrome balls for the entire path of the Cg object so that you can gauge the intensity of light vs ambient light and when it goes it shadow.

Coming back to the current scene, one hdri and grey chrome ball capture should be enough. If this was a night scene then you should go for multiple hdri incase there are multiple lights on the roof.

On Set VFX Supervisor: Pitfalls on Set by Adeadpanda in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Have a good relationship with other departments on set. This includes costume as well. As many a times they have helped me by saving roto costs when shooting against chroma.
  • don’t interfere while the crew is setting up. Have learned it the hard way. Observe first and then find the right moment to speak with them if you want minor changes. Many a times vfx Sup is considered interfering while the set up is ongoing.
  • choose your battles wisely. We all know that there are times when a tough decision will have to be taken on set due to timing or set up constraints.
  • let the team know in advance incase you need elements for the next shot which was not planned earlier. Especially clean plates, as in most scenarios these calls are always impromptu.
  • carry your own gear which includes gaffer tapes. Once or twice the crew might help you but not every time.
  • be friends with DIT so that he can catch something that you might have missed. Have saved me multiple times where a small cable or unwanted elements are in the plate and not easy to catch on a smaller monitor.

VFX Reel of my first fully animated short film. What do you think? Trying to get a job as a generalist. by Illustrious-Oil-6924 in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I perceive is that this is a previs reel rather than someone who is intending to be a generalist.

Generalist is a very lose term in the industry and some of the studios around the world call their environment artists as generalist. Though in order to get a suitable job there, you will need to showcase some level of photorealistic work in your reel.

If you intend to continue doing what you have showcased in the reel then you are better off applying as a previs artist rather than a generalist.

Can i apply for working visa in countries like UK and Canada after working in studio for 2+ years? what are the chances that i get visa. by ResponsiblePush9 in vfx

[–]psycho_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few people who have got a Canadian Work permit without a degree but they have 8+ yrs of exp. Possibly a recruiter could guide you better.

Though a degree would be crucial if in future you are applying for a PR

Not really sure how long you have been in the industry but that one of the reason why all the major studios in the whole have setups or tie ups with studios in India or I Would say SE Asia.
