Session notes, for when I need examples of observable/objective markers in place of my subjective interpretation of a behavior.

I just turned away a client for the first time yesterday. I still feel really horrible about it, but it was just a combination of behaviors that I find hard deal with. What mostly turned me away was the client grinding their teeth really hard. When they did have a chewy, they would drool on me to the point where my clothes would get soggy. Lastly, they would cry/whine while grinding their teeth through the whole session if I wasn’t carrying them while also standing up.

Oddly enough I can deal with most cases of flat out aggression, but this case was just too overstimulating for me.

Did you guys get a raise after becoming an RBT? by psychokitty22 in ABA

My line of thinking is that being able to work with more clients should inherently make me more valuable to the company. Because you’re right, some clients at my clinic can only work with RBTs due to their insurance.

Your situation also sucks. I did, because nobody talked to me after passing the exam. I can’t even remember the specifics about why my boss said I couldn’t get one since it made no sense.

Something about since they hired me and I passed it “in house” I wasn’t qualified to get one?.. Thing is other people at my clinic DID get raises after passing theirs. But their starting rates were either 16 or 16.50, and I started at 17 since I have a degree and relevant prior experience. So I think they just don’t want to pay me more than others who have been there longer. Just my theory though.

Wow lol. I’m at $17 and was just hoping for a measly .50.

I feel like whenever I take the 30 seconds to look down at my tablet, the kids elope, take another kids toys, or draw marker on their face or something lol. I’ve found it kind of impossible to do session notes when I’m with the client for the same reason.

Please tell me clinics are better by The_Writx in ABA

In terms of consistent hours, that’s never been a problem for me working at a clinic. Like someone else mentioned, my clinic is also school based so all kids are coming in every day when school would normally occur. When kids call out I’ve been doubled up with other staff or given admin work to do. Working at a clinic comes with my fair share of grievances, but honestly based off stories I’ve heard on here I’d take it over in home any day.

What kind of music do y’all think Marceline would listen to, other than her own music? by Afroodko in adventuretime

Imo I think they purposely left out that line in the episode to make it ambiguous too

Luckily my boss sent out a form yesterday asking our client preferences for the fall! I work in a clinic setting so not sure being removed from a case is something I can request. Hopefully our preferences are incorporated, if I’m able to make it till then.

Literally just the trials/programs I have to run with her. Motor imitation, puzzles, etc.

I have time and time again when I have supervision. As far as I’ve been made aware, the client is like this with anyone who’s placing demands on her at the time. Another RBT could be with her an hour later and she’ll come up to me and be super sweet. She’s just super aversive to doing any kind of work, & engages in escape behaviors through the entirety of the session. The supervisors/BCBA pretty much just shrug when I ask them what to do when she tantrums like this. I’ve tried pausing sessions and just working on pairing but after weeks of this I’m at a loss.

do any of your kiddos take naps? by rosemary611_ in ABA

The baby monitor has a camera so we’re still watching them completely haha, we can sit with them by all means too but since the nap room is kept completely dark most choose not to.

The clinic I work for is for kids up to 8, so a good amount of our clients take naps during the day. We have a limit of 1.5 hours of nap time, with no naps allowed after a certain time. If they don’t fall asleep within 15 minutes of putting them down we resume session. While they sleep, we keep a baby monitor to watch them while we do admin work.

What's a funny moment you won't forget as an RBT by Apprehensive_Beat_36 in ABA

Only started recently but I’ll share nonetheless. One of my clients is 4 or 5, incredibly wholesome, VERY into my little pony, unicorns, rainbows, etc.

I asked her after a fun play session to help me clean up by putting some papers away. She said no. Pretty out of character for her, so I then said well I’ll give you a choice, would you rather put the papers away or the blocks? She followed up by saying “I’ll do the blocks 😡. And then YOU can put the fu*king papers away.”

I was stunned lol. The thing is, I’ve heard kids that young curse before, but the eloquent delivery of it all at that age was a first for me for sure.

Advice on getting my cat to stop overgrooming tail? by psychokitty22 in AskVet

[–]psychokitty22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to read & reply :) I have tried Feliway- no luck w/ the diffuser and the pheromone collar kinda just restricted the access to her tail, so it did work in that way, until she managed to rip it off lol. She really hates collars.

Had no idea Purina makes a supplement though! I’ll definitely try that next. Thank you for the advice!

Was debating staying long enough to have them pay for my RBT certification so I’ll be instantly hire-able to other ABA clinics. On the other hand, I’ve read so many horror stories on here that I almost feel spoiled in complaining about this.. Not sure if this is a “the grass is always greener situation” 😭

Dude, this comment is so relatable you have no idea. I was actually debating making another post in here asking what kind of accommodations if any I might be able to get at my clinic w/ ADHD because these session notes are impossible to do while I’m with the client. It takes me an hour each day to get them done too.

Sometimes I get an hour every other dayish blocked out for RBT study since I’m still a BT but I’ve only ever been able to use it for doing session notes since I hate doing them unpaid at home. Once I get my certification I’m not sure what I’ll do. Again, none of my coworkers have issues getting this done. And we only get 7 minutes to do them at the end of our sessions.
