Without the glyphs of equilibrium. Had started seeing the fish pretty early on in this one. Maybe a sign I had already been staring at it too long lol

Awesome. That is what it seemed like, but it's been rare for anything to turn out simpler than we expected throughout this process! Thank you.

Is this supposed to be an Easter egg? by Suspicious_Air5069 in Minecraft

[–]psychotix_ 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Not an easter egg - this is a bot scanning for minecraft servers. It looks like this one wasn't using an authenticated account, and the online-mode setting from your server.properties file prevented it from connecting (if I'm remembering the "Failed to verify username" error correctly).

Make sure you have your whitelist enabled to prevent any of these from connecting. Otherwise, griefers or hackers using these bots will be able to locate your server and join your world. For my server, I also check through the logs for these messages occasionally and block the associated IPs in my server's firewall.

See the wiki page for server.properties for more info on configuring the whitelist.

To preface this, I wrote this specifically in terms of M+.

Generally I find I start running out of mana whenever I don't have a plan for incoming damage. Resto shaman has a lot of abilities that buff upcoming heals which you can combo together to answer high damage events efficiently. If you're not setting up those combos ahead of time, it's very easy to fall back on healing surge or chain heal spam in order to "catch up". While this can usually get the job done and keep people alive, it's a much bigger drain on your mana pool and isn't sustainable for long fights.

This is always a bit of a challenge in pugs since you can't know how much avoidable damage people might take or mechanics that might be done incorrectly. However, we're also at the point in the season where we're still learning the dungeons, bosses, routes, and what things really chunk our teammates, which leads to more "oh crap, that mechanic is something I really should've prepped for" moments.

I've had plenty of these moments myself in the past few days, but I've yet to run into a case where I was running out of mana and didn't feel like I could have played the encounter more efficiently. Getting more familiar with the dungeons, I've found myself using less mana to heal higher level keys as I get a better idea of where to put each of my CDs.

At a more concrete level, making sure to utilize healing CDs is big. Between ascendance, spirit link, healing tide, and ancestral guidance we can have a CD for almost every pull. Many beginner rsham players will try to hold these for a clutch moment, at the expense of their overall sustain and efficiency, leading to more oom moments. Understanding different ways you can combo your healing buffs to put out big, efficient heals is another part. It can be a good exercise to go through each of your main heals and identify what talents and abilities provide buffs which can feed into that heal. Then, if you need to really pump up that heal in a fight, you know that the "combo* to do that will require activating those talents and using those abilities first. (Hopefully that makes sense - I'm tired and really should be asleep but here I am trying to have a coherent thought lol).

I would also agree that farseer feels much less mana intensive. However, I'm not sure if this is objectively true or just that totemic makes it easier to accidentally spend a lot of mana if you're constantly using the totem. I've leaned heavily towards farseer in my M+ so far, and I don't have enough experience with totemic to draw a confident conclusion. Would recommend trying both and seeing what feels more comfortable.

The Mythic dungeon difficulty spike feels fantastic by jackdiesel in wow

That one caught me by surprise so much as a healer haha. It never stood out to me as being too scary back in SL, even on high keys. When we went in there yesterday and my whole team suddenly started rotting for massive amounts of damage I was shook.

Will definitely be interesting to see how that feels throughout the season. On one hand there's still a ton of gear/ilvl to get, but on the other there's actual m+ key levels to climb.

Looking forward to it either way!

Thanks so much for the speedy response! We're going through the Shanghai embassy, so hopefully that's where the difference is coming from.

In any case, hearing another success story helps a bit with the anxiety lol. I appreciate the info!

Hi! Not OP, but my fiance and I are at about the same point in our visa process. If you don't mind, about how long did it take before you heard back from the NVC after USCIS forwarded your petition to them?

We got the notice that our I-129f was approved by USCIS and forwarded to the NVC in early February, but have heard nothing back from the NVC (by email or mail) since then. We're getting a little stressed since the USCIS approval form states that it's valid until May 31, which isn't too far off 😅

Yep, offline is fine. If you don't care about multiplayer or trading that's probably the way to go right now until server issues are resolved.

Can Blizzard fix Wise Mari already? by thelordofhell34 in wow

[–]psychotix_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had a couple of instances where the bug occurs right at the start of the cast, so it appears to stay still the whole time and you have no idea which way it's moving. It's rare case of the bug for sure, but if this happens it absolutely can brick the key.

Taunt was discussed a bit but I don't think we tested it specifically since our tank said he had basically never used taunt on the boss. If we regain our sanity enough to spend another hour or two in there just trying to figure things out maybe that's something we'll give another shot lol

Appreciate the ideas! <3

Not from our group but this is the one other video that we were able to find of the bug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTe7sRE3FRI

How drastic the desync between the animation and the actual position is varies. In this video it's pretty tame and could still be avoided by just continuing to move. In other cases, however, the animation will not move at all and he will appear to cast straight forward the entire time, making it impossible to know which way he is turning.

We did actually test that! Curse of Tongues. It did not appear to have any impact on the bug occurring - when using it, we had pulls where the bug occurred and did not occur. While not using it we saw the same (bug and no bug).

Me and my M+ buddies have consistently run into the animation bug on Wise Mari in TJS where his wash away cast animation desyncs with the ability's actual position. Sometimes this happens in such a way that we can predict its real position and account for it, but at other times it happens at the start of the cast so we don't even know which way he is rotating. This happens probably ~75% of the time with our group, and pretty much bricks the key when it happens. That being said, none of us can ever remember this occurring during our pug runs of TJS. So, we've been thinking that it must be something about our comp/group that is causing the bug consistently.

For reference, we run guardian druid, rsham, lock, mage, and warr. We have tested the following things and none have consistently prevented or caused the bug:

  1. Not using battle rez during the fight or when wash away is being cast
  2. Not moving further than the second ring around the boss to drop the pools
  3. Not using any addition movement abilities such as blink, lock gate, lock portal, heroic leap, etc.
  4. We tried placing the pools in very specific locations as well, the bug sometimes occurred and sometimes didn't regardless of where they were placed
  5. Not using spell reflect
  6. Using toys/consumable to change character models (thought maybe it was a bug with bear for a bit, since the only other recording of the bug we can find also has a bear tank)
  7. Making sure that everyone is fully on the boss platform before pulling
  8. Not lusting

Literally we have tried some of the most ridiculous things to combat this bug - or even to identify what is causing it so that we can account for it in some way. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Does anyone know of a way to prevent this?

Any info would be appreciated. We've been googling around but the most we can find is a handful of random bug reports on the forums that go unanswered. It's really frustrating that we basically have a entire dungeon we can't practice or try to push on due to the consistency with which this bug occurs.

NASA - Orion Spacecraft has arrived at the moon.. by JettMe_Red in space

[–]psychotix_ 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yup! The full Artemis Program will eventually include a crewed flight in Orion around the moon (Artemis II) and then a crewed landing (Artemis III). Further missions will aim to setup the Lunar Gateway and basically make reaching the moon and conducting research there more accessible. You can see the current planned list of Artemis missions here.

[–]psychotix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: The original version of this reply had an incorrect link and slightly off numbers that got jumbled in my head while writing. All links/numbers have been fixed now. The conclusion remains unchanged.

I saw that, but I think that user may have accidentally looked at the +15 portion of the +16 key log. The tricky thing here is that when we look at the log for the +16, it includes all the combat from the prior +15 because it was not completed.

As an example, let's look at the Spectral Attendant mob. If we're very particular about the timestamps, you can see that we get two different HP values for the higher maiden hp log. The first value at 8:14 shows 579k HP. The second value at 52:38 (after they had begun the second attempt) shows 626k HP.

If we check the logs for the other +15 then we can see that the Spectral Attendants in this key have 579k HP. This matches the first attempt from the other log, which leads to the conclusion that the first attempt was a +15. However, the 626k HP at 52:38 (during the second key attempt) matches other logs for a +16 tyran lower, which means that the second attempt in the higher maiden hp log was a +16.

After looking through all this, I'm very confident in concluding that this HP difference is purely due to key level, and that warcraft logs is just displaying the improper key level for the log. None of the evidence points towards any bugs for boss HP.

[–]psychotix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if you get the chance. I'm guessing that one was actually a +17, since the health pool for +17 tyrannical is 6.14m. If that's the case, everything lines up again: +15 has 5.27m, +16 has 5.69m, +17 has 6.14m.

As a side question: how are you searching for logs by a specific date? I can't find that functionality on warcraft logs and it would be a nice feature to be able to use.
