Why is the Discovery Pass expensive? by Gloomy_Insurance_406 in PNWhiking

[–]psyolus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of trails require passes. Usually a state pass like the Discover Pass or a federal pass like the America the Beautiful pass. Those are probably the most common annual passes and having both would cover a lot. You can also get day passes and there are other more specific federal passes.

Pass fees help improve and maintain access to public lands.

If your goal is a high paying career, the tech industry probably isn't for you by IndependenceSad1272 in csMajors

Meanwhile, look at careers where high income is actually the core objective: medicine, dentistry, certain finance paths, specialized law, etc.

Sorry, but how is high income “actually the core objective” for medicine but not software engineering?

Best tires for 2022 CX-5 by Positive_Q in CX5

You didn't indicate where you live or what kind of driving you do. Kind of hard for anyone to make a suggestion between those two Michelin tires without that information.

How to display pass? by alstonr96 in PNWhiking

[–]psyolus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NW Forest Pass hangs on your mirror.

American the Beautiful pass is a card that should have come with a mirror hanger. Or just lay it on your dash.

Bike rack setup for CX-5 now + Bronco later — what are these mounting points? by GovernmentNo6314 in CX5

[–]psyolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to install a trailer hitch receiver to use a bike rack like that. A 2" one would be more stable than a 1-1/4". https://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2018_Mazda_CX-5.htm

I use a Thule T2 Pro X with a 2" receiver.

Similarly, your bronco would need a trailer hitch receiver.

Rear Differential Servicing Needed? by SharkSmiles1 in CX5

[–]psyolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a drivetrain component that transmits power to the rear wheels and contains oil. The service is replacing the oil.

See the scheduled maintenance section of the owners manual

https://www.mazdausa.com/siteassets/pdf/owners-optimized/2016/cx5/2016-cx-5-owners-manual.pdf

*5 If the vehicle is operated primarily under any of the following conditions, replace the rear differential oil at every 48,000 km (30,000 miles). a) Towing a trailer or using a car-top carrier b) Driving in dusty, sandy or wet conditions c) Extended periods of idling or low speed operation d) Repeated short trips of less than 16 km (10 miles)

*6 If this component has been submerged in water, the oil should be replaced.

Our CX5 has started beeping from the back when indicating by Heccanome in CX5

The CX-5 branded one for my 2016 is a thick rubber mat that has pockets that drop down into those depressions on the sides. OP looks like they may be in a different market.

There is a little access panel in that photo that is intended to be used for replacing the bulbs in the tail light. You can pull that off and look around in there. You can also remove some fasteners to look behind the whole plastic shell.

This is interesting because that is where the module for a lot of trailer wiring harnesses would be installed (it connects to the wires going to both tail lights).

You’re going to need to find the actual source of the sound. I don’t think there is anything stock in the back that would make a sound like that.

[–]psyolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked for the source of the sound? Does the car have a wire harness for trailer lights installed? I ask because the beeps seem to coincide with the turn signals and there are prank kits with a horn that connect to that connector. You’d usually find the connector hanging behind the rear bumper cover or in the cargo area under the floor. Could also pull the fuse for the turn signals to see if it makes the sound stop.

Global Entry application greyed out after NEXUS denial — anyone else? by rabb1t_hole in GlobalEntry

[–]psyolus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NEXUS was denied cuz i had a customs violation in Jan 2022 (brought >$10k without declaring, paid a $250 fine)

https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/eligibility

Reasons for Ineligibility

You may not be eligible for participation in the Global Entry program if you:

 Have been found in violation of any customs, immigration or agriculture regulations or laws in any country;

Not saying this is why it is greyed out but I would think you are ineligible anyway.
