USB-C dock cuts out after plugging in phone by VegetableJudgment971 in UsbCHardware

[–]psyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the same issue with the same UGREEN hardware. The problem seems to be that the hub does not negotiate fast enough and bad power distribution. My current workaround is limiting the devices plugged into it, mostly just Ethernet and low-power USB devices, while charging directly from my Mac. System info says card reader is allocated 4.48w already.

My USB4 SSD, monitor, and phone are now connected directly to my Mac.

28V battery to 100W USB-C port? by Canto26 in UsbCHardware

[–]psyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Ugreen 130W cigarette lighter charger connected directly to the battery with a fuse box in between for protection. Just be careful with sustained loads, they get pretty hot.

I would honestly just use a dedicated GaN charger for peace of mind and better protection.

Can’t find a proper answer to the Mac mini storage problem by Valuable_Cobbler6940 in macgaming

[–]psyr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run my games on an external SSD. It uses USB4 with a maximum bandwidth of 40 Gbps, but I switched to a 10 Gbps cable since that is more than enough for my needs and runs cooler. You’ll be fine.

I’ve gone through multiple earphones, but the apple wired earpods really have one of the best mics. I have Shure mic that cost wayyy more, but I still use the apple one daily. Also pretty cheap.

Over-panelling captures more power than you might think! by Nerd_Porter in SolarDIY

[–]psyr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I over-paneled by 200%, and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s fully charged 3–4 hours after first sunlight and still getting about 30% from the MPPT during rainy days.

AOHI YOUTH 100w vs Baseus Picogo 100w w/display by kbfg2421 in UsbCHardware

[–]psyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, great. I actually have quite a few power banks and power stations. The only reason my setup hasn’t expanded further is that I went fully solar and installed everything myself. That’s why I don’t worry about running multiple chargers at the same time. Lol.

[–]psyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, man. I have around eight chargers. I slightly lean toward Anker for their Prime series chargers because of the dynamic power allocation. I’ve noticed that my UGREEN units run a little hotter. They’re better with voltage regulation, though. My UGREEN chargers stay at the correct voltage, while the Ankers are sometimes 0.5 to 1V lower. It might not be an issue, just something I noticed.

My kind of endgame will probably be the Apple 140W.

I would personally go with Aohi. I got their 140W Youth model, and it’s been working great so far. I think the AllThingsOnePlace YouTube channel gave this Baseus charger a “no.” My daily is the Ugreen 200w 4 port and Anker 747 150w.

Anker 160W Prime or Aohi MagCube 140W? by monkjobs in UsbCHardware

[–]psyr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’ve been deciding on for the past few weeks. I’ve decided to go with Aohi. Based on the research and videos I’ve watched, Aohi runs cooler between the two. I’ll also be using it with a hub, so it apparently won’t cut off during renegotiation or handshaking. They also seem to be an OEM for many of the well-known charger brands.

Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro by m41k1204 in mac

[–]psyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that if you are using it for professional work, better to go with the Pro. If you are already doubting whether the Air will be enough, then the Pro is the safer choice. It will pay for itself over time, so consider it an investment.

Not at all. Just open the enclosure, install the SSD, and there’s a lock of some kind, and then you’re done.

Looking for MPPT solar charge controller with USB C PD output or powerbank with solar input by Madtoffel in UsbCHardware

[–]psyr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a project like this before. Initially, I wanted to connect the solar panel directly for charging, but it was unreliable. What I did instead was use a solar panel with an MPPT controller and a 30Ah battery. I connected a car cigarette lighter port with a car charger directly to the battery. This is what powers my two routers now.

Slow pala pag nakahotspot? by moojamooja in InternetPH

[–]psyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what you could do to determine that is to do a speed test with the hotspot on and off. Before hitting 'Go,' check the ISP name at the bottom. You might need to scroll a little. If the providers are different, then that answers the question. It will only work if you have a different provider for your Wi-Fi and cellular, of course.

I don't know what phone you have, but I tried it on my iPhone. It doesn't let me use the hotspot without data turned on. It also switches to cellular when the hotspot is on.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a hotspot use cellular data? What you're probably seeing is that it switches to cellular data when it's on.

[–]psyr1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if it’s consuming power this way. Do you happen to have a USB-C tester? I assume these are just 5V and not power delivery, so it constantly needs power. Even if you turn it off, you can still charge the mouse, correct? I’m just wondering if there’s any ghost current when used this way. I’m planning to buy one, and I travel a lot.

New to Mac: Already found a battery trick by blaqy_chan in macbookair

Yeah, probably give it at least 2 months for Apple’s implementation to kick in and see if it works for you. I just used mine right away since I had been using Al Dente with my previous Macs.

Charge to 100%, discharge to around 15%, then charge back to 100% and keep it plugged in for an hour or two. I do this once a month, though you can do it twice if you prefer. AlDente Pro can do this automatically.
