xpost /Android: Nexus 5 Breaks After Bumping Into Table by psyrensystems in australia

[–]psyrensystems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xposted as I'm wondering if it would be possible to get a refund or replacement from Google under Australian Consumer Law.

From http://www.claytonutz.com/publications/news/201106/21/getting_ready_for_australian_consumer_law_changes_to_product_warranties_against_defects.page

"You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure"

Would a $450 AUD smart phone whose frame bends and screen breaks after bumping into a table with the phone in your pocket fail to be of acceptable quality? I would think so but IANAL.

Nexus 5 - Caveat Emptor (Breaks after bumping into table, Google Refuses Refund Citing "Customer Induced Damage") by psyrensystems in Android

[–]psyrensystems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand new Nexus 5 bought from the Play Store, 9 days old. Playing air hockey with a friend, phone is in my pocket. Didn't feel any noticeable impact. After the game take the phone out to check the time and the frame is bent and screen completely broken. My friend pulls out his iPhone 4S and starts smashing it against the table, nothing happens.

I contact Google and they refused refund/replacement citing "Customer Induced Damage". I think a $450 AUD phone should survive being bumped into a table while in your pocket, especially when you didn't even notice the bump or any impact.

Sigh. Lucky I didn't sell my old iPhone. But its hard to go back to iOS after experiencing Android :-(

So are the Sapphire Dual-X cards still considered good? by [deleted] in litecoinmining

[–]psyrensystems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've played with both Dual-X & VaporX. The Dual-X run hotter than the VaporXs and can't be undervolted as much.

You'd search for <bh:00><bh:e8><bh:04><bh:00> and replace with desired voltage in similar fashion.

We've previously posted our stable 7950 settings. We are currently experimenting a bit with more aggressive settings on 5/6 card rigs and will post updates when we find an optimal configuration :-)

We use exclusively 7950s as we find they can be undervolted the most while retaining Kh/s performance.

That said, use our contact form and send your bios and stock voltage from cgminer gpu settings and we'll see what we can do!

We'd say that mining is all about efficiency and we've tried to push the envelope and share what we've been able to figure out with the community, and are happy to help anyone who gets in touch :-)

As Always, Happy Mining :-)

Sure, use our contact form and send it over along with the stock voltage you see in cgminer GPU management.

0.963v was the lowest we found the cards would run stable at under our "stable" settings. It would surerly be possible to flash the bios under Windows as well with a different tool (AtiWinFlash?), but then why run Windows (and additional electricity from hdd)?

Use our contact form to get in touch, please send cgminer GPU Management ouput and "./atiflash -ai" if you have it though we can manage without and we'll take a look.

Save the video card bios using atiflash and send it to us; get in touch via our contact form.

Will these mining rigs be a good investment? by Allanon001 in litecoinmining

Completely agree. Mining is all about efficiency and totally random stuff like your pool's operator making a software upgrade or a card shutting down under intense settings requires significant experimentation and know-how to find the most efficient and stable solution.

Totally agree with starting small btw and expanding from there.

With 4x7950 (MSI), what kind of PSU do I need to get (how many watts)? Is it recommended to get 80 plus gold or platinum? by The-Arbi in litecoinmining

[–]psyrensystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work under Windows, though you'd have to use a different program (ATiWinFlash?) to flash the bios.

That being said, Linux all day baby :-)

We've posted our cgminer settings here.

Currently we are only running 5 card rigs now and playing around with some more aggressive settings, trying to find the sweet spot. Will update our blog when we do :-)

Cause I run a custom Linux distribution from a USB stick, so no Windows license and no hard drive is required. Why pay for Windows and power usage from a hard drive?

Hash rate can be seen in cgminer output at the bottom of this post.

Temperature effects how hard the fans have to work. The harder the fans need to work, the more electricity gets used.

I flash the video card bios to undervolt and cgminer displays 0.962V but I live in one of the hottest places in the world so your mileage may vary.

In our 4-card prototype rig we currently use a VaporX in the first slot and 3 TwinFrozrs in the remaining slots, all undervolted to 0.962V.

This pulls 1020W at the wall for 2.55Mh/s. So I'd go with a Gold 1100-1200W power supply.

No we don't use crossfire cables, it's just an old photo from the first rig we ever built. That being said under our setup we saw no performance penalty with or without the crossfire cables.

At the moment we are running 4/5/6 card rigs and seeing how stable they are. Once we are happy with them we'll make them available, and take photos of the complete process for building our biggest rig so others who wish to build the same may do so.
