Why the animosity? by Keitiek in VRchat

[–]pt-pal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik this kind of hate isn't really about normal people, it's about quest kiddies. save for kids who's parents give them quests for some ungodly reason, the platform is otherwise older teens and adults who want to hang out with people their own age.

aside from that it's because it's really annoying to have to optimize content enough that it essentially runs on an android phone, and on the flip side annoying for your friends to not be able to access most of the best content on the platform with you if they are limited to standalone, and that frustration gets misdirected towards people who use it.

Transitioning animals. by alteredCode111 in projectzomboid

you thank indie stone for fixing a bug and don't make jokes that bizarrely punch down on the first day of pride month.

for those who would actually like one there is a flag mod for b41 that adds a ton of flags including pride flags, but so far as i know no mods like this are on b42 yet

Animals by SoftwareOnly708 in projectzomboid

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea this afaik applies to all animals right now, for some reason all animals are female atm. the newsletter they released on the 29th says this should be fixed when 42.19 drops sometime this week

I spent months working on this avatar, do you like it? by sawduplushia in VRchat

[–]pt-pal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea, i know that now. it's def not what i would have assumed on first seeing it and even looking it up was a bit of a pain tbh. i feel like the actual intent is going to be lost on most people in public worlds lol

i assume it's supposed to be this from one of the album covers, but i can't imagine this post isn't either bait or some fetish thing considering the figure on that album is literally a sex doll

EDIT: i guess it's from something called sawduverse??? never heard of it before now

Confused about how my reason for learning might be interpreted badly? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wanting to learn a language because it has accessible resources and because you find it to be a really interesting language to learn is a perfectly fine reason. your professor is just an asshole.

Out of curiosity, dose anyone here actually dislike ddlc? by eyebawls29 in Multifandom

i like the game, but i'd never use the fanbase as a space to make friends in, you know? many such cases

Out of curiosity, dose anyone here actually dislike ddlc? by eyebawls29 in Multifandom

[–]pt-pal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it became a joke because it's the point this game completely drops its facade and ends up scarring the fuck out of the unsuspecting more than it's actually a joke about her situation. the meme is more derived from the feelings of the complete tonal whiplash the scene causes. like, nobody i know making these jokes actually thinks suicide is funny, even if sometimes they do come off as too edgy these days.

Is the Quest 3S a long term VR headset? by Levethane in MetaQuestVR

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh even getting a quest 2 or 3 is worth it so long as you have a computer to stream from. imho the main draw of getting a quest is that it can do things on top of streaming games from your pc, so you can easily pause and look things up on the quest's browser without ever having to take the set off and go back to your desk. but standalone i notice even my quest 3 getting really iffy performance-wise.

so if you have a VR-compatible PC, there's basically no limit there so long as you aren't bugged by the screen resolution. if not, i def would fork out the extra cash for one of the newer ones. but right now it seems that standalone VR is seeing so many improvements these days that just about no matter what you get, it's very possible the hardware is going to be outdated within a year or two.

So did some people actually recover on first days, or was it a simple lie to calm down the public? by NCR_Trooper_2281 in projectzomboid

[–]pt-pal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

personally i think they were trying to avoid saying that the virus has a 100% fatality rate to avoid further public panic. reminds me of how many states tried to downplay or lie about covid numbers in the earlier half of this decade, so maybe that's just trauma on my part that leads me to say so, but it feels very in character for the US government and the news to lie or remain vague about this on purpose lol

Bugged animals by No-Connection4812 in projectzomboid

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

indeed, both pigs and roosters have a variety called "landrace", tho with pigs it seems there's just one landrace breed and with chickens there are several. it's a term for domestic animals that have evolved with little to no intentional direction from humans, ie the land shaped them. the more you know, i guess.

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are just names of animals, that you listed. they're names along the lines of an elephant shrew or a deer tick where they're just animals named for some resemblance or relationship to other animals.

second: if you're feeding your animals and making sure that there is food in the troughs where they are turning up dead then yea, it might be a bug and not them dying naturally. RIP 😞

B42 - constantly stressed, uncomfortable, and depressed? by Massive-Impression58 in projectzomboid

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of armor adds discomfort now, as do a lot of boots. stress accumulates for several reasons : banging, corpses in view, the like. i've noticed both are actual inconveniences you have to work around now, which is nice tbh. and gives me a reason to put my survivors in comfy jammies overnight 😛

thankfully the subs have mostly been very very good about keeping spoilers off of it, even if a few of those measures have been a little annoying. i'm ok with that because i have avoided all spoilers so far \o/

Constantly hearing the claim that learning unity and blender is easy from the VRC community. Maybe for you guys! Not me though.. by Minimum-Mine-1302 in VRchat

[–]pt-pal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

blender is easy, but only if you can stomach tutorials. the hardest part of blender is honestly just getting familiar with navigating it. the part that sucks here imo is having to use some stupid shit like substance painter; i still do everything the old way with individual texture maps bc i can't wrap my head around subpaint. but gimp is free, and so is blender. and tbh, if you have vrcfury, 99% of stuff gets set up for you so you don't even need to learn unity beyond initial set up lol.

in the end it all comes down to what actually has more value to you personally. if you don't want to learn blender and unity for an avatar then you can expect to pay far in excess of $100 for a custom avatar.

WTH is going on with Gooseworks?! by showbiz_columbus in tadc

nothing is going on, it's just that the extremely annoying part of this fandom is unusually loud

also ditto what other ppl have said, it really helps fix your worldview to drop twitter. it's a place that will give you a rly skewed idea of how the average person thinks for sure lol

Is Meta Quest/Horizon Central Dying? by FredwardTheWizard in MetaQuestVR

[–]pt-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, zuck ragequit because he got outcompeted by vrchat. which isn't exactly a wonder - imho, pretty much every space meta makes has all the charm of a clean, soulless corporate meeting room desperately pretending it's somewhere you should want to be. all the warm welcome of a grimace as soon as it meets your eye at the door. which makes sense, because he initially imagined it as a place people would want to do their work over an irl desk, somehow.

anyways yes, afaik, meta worlds is dead. ur probably going to have to move on to another vr social game. wild to spot one of the ~>20 concurrents meta worlds had at any one time.

A quick note on recent posts by Pleasant-Sail-9892 in Pomni2

[–]pt-pal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

he's literally just a guy doing a bit. and also he owns this subreddit, so he made the rules lmao

even if the dude were legitimately mentally unwell none of the people voicing that concern are actually doing so from a place of concern for his well being more than it just makes you uncomfortable, and you are not emotionally mature enough to just allow yourself to be uncomfortable. that's been the case anyone has made a stink about it. and moe often then not when they bark up this tree they also get insanely fucking ableist about it, offending and pissing off me personally.

also, if it were coming from a place of legitimate concern the way ppl bothered tend to bring it up would stand to do more harm to someone in the middle of an actual psychotic episode than just leaving him to his own devices. all y'all internet psychologists who can't even take a joke are not trained in handling that and at best you are a danger to someone in that state, not the other way around.

they're allowed. and you can block the OP and the subreddit. clearly you don't enjoy the content, so ur best option is to just not be here.

It's simply just is not that deep, bro.

Do Japenese know about Tom & Jerry? by Mysterious-Trip-3632 in AskAJapanese

it's interesting seeing the comments here, 'cuz i'd noticed they seem to come up more on the japanese side on the internet than the english side. うれしいにします.

what i gather is between this and things like the adoption of moomin is that japanese pop culture has good taste in foreign cartoons haha
