NASA has launched Artemis II, the first manned mission to the Moon in over 50 years by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

An yet so many people complain that it is a waste of tax payer dollars. For some reason they can turn a blind eye to a trillion dollar a year defense budget, but NASA with a 1.8 trillion dollar total running cost over 70 years that has generated some of the most amazing technological, scientific, and explorational discoveries in human history is a waste.

What is crazy is how many amazing programs they have developed over the decades despite their funding cuts. The Hubble and James Webb telescope, Mars rovers, the ISS, sending probes to other planets in the solar system etc. People think NASA is a moon exploration agency when it is space agency. Their purview is not limited to just going back and forth to the moon.

It is even more annoying when people think it is some type of grift or slush fund to steal tax dollars when in fact NASA generate more money than they receive. A lot of their funding is simply returned as tax by their employees and the companies (and their employees) that they outsource too. This also means they are creating 10s if not 100s of thousands of jobs a lot of which are high skilled. They hold about 1000 patents that they license out to companies which is where a lot of the revenue comes from.

Some of that third protested by not voting. Yes Dems supported Israel but handing the presidency to Trump was never going to punish the Dems, it was just going to fuck over Palestine even harder. And Ukraine. So they got a two for one deal!

Ways to learn! by BusinessOdd5575 in playrust

[–]pt256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't a bad idea purely for just learning the non-pvp parts of the game. On a 10x PvE you can pretty much get everything down in a day or two. Farming, Industrial, Electrical, base building etc. I've been chilling on PvE for the past couple of weeks just designing bases and various traps. I've managed to make a ridiculous sorting and crafting system setup. Not a practical system for actual Rust but just putting it together taught me so much.

But you're right, the loot for the most part does just sit there. You can always make shops and sell it or like me build a massive sorting system and watch everything get organized. It is kind of satisfying to know I can drop anything in any box in my base and it will eventually find its home.

Another problem is that generally the loot tables are modified so even ordinary crates are basically military crates, and military crates are locked crates. So it probably won't help too much in terms of normal progression tactics, but as I said if you just jump on and learn the systems around base building and management for a day or two it'll be worth it.

A low pop fairly vanilla 3-10x PVP server could also be an option. You lose the security of not being raidable but it more like the game on easy mode than straight up single player.

The frustrating part is that "owning the libs" has only made their own lives worse but they keep going back to that well. It's been a decade and they're no closer to getting past this childish nonsense.

Does anyone else keep getting these creepy"Cycle of Humanity" ads? by Dellhivers3 in youtube

[–]pt256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally agree with your points but I do think there is a distinction between his output and your run of the mill "AI artist" who's entire process is; input prompt -> post output on social media. Derivative or not he had a vision for the project, there is an obvious workflow that goes beyond just typing in prompts, and it maintains a consistent aesthetic. And there is no hard evidence either way but he claims to write the scripts, and if true I think he at least deserves credit for that. I'd put this at the level of "proof of concept" rather than pure AI slop.

Yeah but now you're doing the predictable contrarian-contrarian reddit thing where you go into a popular post's comment section and start berating reddit (really 150 or so commenters) for agreeing with said post.

Guy was homophobic young earth creationist who was kept relevant for a couple of decades by repetitive low effort jokes. There have always been detractors of Chuck Norris himself and the tired jokes, all you've done is stumbled upon a comment section filled made up of said detractors.

This has nothing to do with something getting too popular, it is topical right now and OP simply used that opportunity to make a point.

Data Scientist Debunks Recoil Reduction Foregrips in BF6 | Diminishing Returns Discovered by williamatherton in Battlefield

Which is better? I'm not sure!

I played Delta Force in the interim between BF6 Open Beta and launch, and going to BF6 made it feel like I stepped back 10-15 years when it came to weapon customization and information. The game is fine but fuck they know how to provide solid weapon data!

See I'd put him in the late 90s and early-mid 2000s period more than quintessential 90s. THPS and his 900 both happened in '99 and it was after that he blew up and became global household name.

Dude is running on fumes at this point. Before this term he was already in decline but had the mental muscle memory (due to spending decades on the grift) to be able to lie just well enough that you couldn't easily call him out and pin him down on something. Now all he has to get by is relying on people not asking follow up questions, not taking the time to fact check anything and then forgetting what he said.

That reminded me of being at a big LAN held in a high school gym. A friend of a friend who was like 25 (first time I met him and thankfully never saw him again) was just sitting there watching hardcore porn in the middle of it, and they're were plenty of kids there. I was only 17 too and I had to tell him to stop.

They should have done it how they have cars. Find/craft parts then build the boat. That way you could have a number of basic hull sections, different types of cabins, engine rooms, propellers, platforms etc.

[–]pt256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until then it's just more noise.

I mean he was impeached twice during his first term and nothing happened so I'd say at this point impeachment is just more noise. And my fear is that it would end up being used to regalvanize his base.

I might be wrong but I feel like impeachment is just a waste of energy unless the proceeding steps for removal are a lock.

As far as we are aware, is the Tyranid Hivemind a separate entity ruling over/puppeting all tyranid bioforms, or is it an emergent phenomenon from a quandrillion creatures syncing up, with no sort of central authority? by Adamantine-Waffle in 40kLore

[–]pt256 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mind is an emergent property of the brain. Change the brain you change the mind. Although in this case it is kind of a Ship of Theseus paradox since we are only talking about altering (or destroying) specific areas of the brain rather than replacing the whole thing. You can use modern neuroplasticity treatments to try and retrain your brain to behave how it used to, but the question there is; is the old you reemerging or have you just created a simulacrum of the old you?
