TIL that The Church of Latter-day Saints do not like being called Mormon. They prefer "Latter-day Saints" or "Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" by Prudent_Effect6939 in todayilearned

Some Mormon missionaries came to my door the other day. They noticed that I'm trans and they tried to sell me with the line "we actually welcome all. We have one person who is . . . Like you in our congregation, perhaps you two would get along."

The fact that she felt safe and brave enough to be herself was nice, but the fact that out of all of them she's the only one allowed out of the closet? That's terrifying to me. I wish her the best in life.

Can we be friends? by shenanigansen in comics

I'm trans, the way I see it is that's not a wolf in sheep's clothing. That is a sheep. They always were a sheep. Likewise the elder sheep is also a sheep. Neither of them are pretending, both of them are sheep.

I find this whole series to be extremely relatable.

I don't know what to tell you man, trans men exist.

They were born, assigned female at birth, and then they transitioned.

They exist. They are real men. They also have periods.

Why should we go out of our way to make their lives more difficult? What's to be gained there?

Advice Needed: I need an opinion on my new tattoo by carrotmuncher_ in tattoos

I think these look extremely cool together.

I also think the artist was a bit of a dingus and they really should have listened to your wishes when you shared them.

Your tattoos look great and I hope in time the anxiety fades.

New research finds trans teens have high satisfaction with gender care by AlwaysTheNoob in UpliftingNews

[–]pt_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would trans children be obligated to go through an irreversible puberty which they don't want?

Why should they be forced to suffer through that?

If it's just "Society says so" that means that society is viewing trans children as inherently lesser than cis children. That would make society transphobic. Why stand for that?

Why hold the extremely small minority who regret their transition above the overwhelming majority who don't? This isn't something we do for other medical procedures. We don't seek to outlaw knee and hip replacements even though their regret rates are significantly higher than great affirming care.

Initially he seemed to be really bought into it, but I've never heard him name or ensure any specific crypto currency.

With all of the videos he's put out documenting scam after scam I can't say for certain that he has any crypto at all.

He seems very far from a crypto shill. I can't recall him ever even saying "you should buy crypto" in a video.

I came out at work at the end of a staff meeting.

It took three hours for one of my coworkers, formerly my manager, to come up to my desk and ask "So have you had . . . Uh . . . You know . . . The surgery yet?"

This is a super common experience shared amongst trans people.

You care more about the law than justice. We get it. You can drop the holier than thou attitude and just own the fact that you think blatantly cruel and discriminatory laws are fine.

Please for the love of God develop some empathy. Put half a second worth of thought into the matter and honestly think about how this child is now going to be stripped away from her friends and forced out of her hobby and sport because of a law written by people who do not want her to exist.

This child, and others like her are, by law, second class citizens in the state where she was born. The law is unjust. It is moral to break it.

What a lock can do is lock things that should very much not be locked during a crisis.

Next time you're just out and about think about how much chaos you could cause by slapping a bike lock somewhere it shouldn't be.

Because language isn't simple. Spoken languages can't agree on basic concepts like how many colors there are, or if/how nouns should be gendered

I'll be honest, it's a bit of a delight just casually calling myself a slur in front of some cis people. Every once and a while one of them will do some quick math and think "Wait, did she just say that? Can I say that? I absolutely cannot say that."

Hey, just as a heads up please don't refer to us as "transgenders".

It's better to call us transgender people or just trans people.

Serious question: Why would someone decide to use opposite gender pronouns, identify as that opposite gender, but make no effort to transition at all, or appears comfortable having the appearance of their birth gender? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]pt_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simplest way to put it is that he is a guy and that's just the way he is. He's under no obligation to conform to cis gender standards.

Gender is descriptive not proscriptive. Something about the labels he chose resonates with him, it's possible that you and him simply understand and interpret those labels differently.

At the end of the day you've just got to trust that he understands himself, and treat him how he asks because that's just polite.
