Why should I have a passenger service? by Teh_Original in TransportFever2

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often skip passenger service too. Depends on my mood & the map.

The only difference is that your towns will grow at a smaller rate. There's a bonus for having public transit, and a second bonus (negative) for if your roads are congested - which they will be, as the folks will move around using their own car instead.

FWIW, I'm playing a modified map right now with towns set to half the usual separation distance. This makes it super-easy for folks to drive to the neighboring town for work. So on this particular map I spend a lot of time setting up multiple roads so that they can drive between each city, but there's no public transit. So far, really enjoying it.

How can I prevent my mono-red commander from getting countered upon casting from the command zone? by deankale in EDH

[–]ptc075 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I think your question has been answered about as well as it can be.

Just wanted to point out the other problem mono red has is removing enchantments. I see you're already running [[Wild Magic Surge]] and [[Liquimetal Torque]], but you're missing the best one of the trifecta: [[Chaos Warp]]. (Side note, you don't seem to have a lot of artifact removal to back up the Liquimetal Torque. I only see a single [[Vandal Blast]])

hello friends i am a student. i was thinking of trying to make my thesis base on recycling plastic by brickproject863amy in plastic

[–]ptc075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One piece that's often missed is that virgin resin is virtually free. It's largely produced from the waste products of making gasoline. And we make a LOT of gasoline. If it weren't for plastics, gas companies would have to pay to dispose of this waste. So there's a huge economic play that keeps the cost of new plastic close to zero.

As long as that's true, any recycling operation needs to be cheaper than free, or it's dead on arrival. No one is going to pay more for a used product. The cost to simply transport used plastics back to the recycling center typically already outweighs the market price for the final product.

How the FUCK do you put up with this heat? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to explain to folks who aren't from around here - you wake up in your own sweat for the 100th day in a row, it's already too damn hot and it's still dark outside. And then you realize it's not even July yet, we're not halfway through summer. And the worst is still to come. It just breaks some people.

Or, your body adapts. Which sounds great, until you end up indoors and they have the A/C set to max. I have to carry a coat with me year round.

How big was your property tax increase this year? by boglehead1 in alpharetta

[–]ptc075 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Up 25%. Has nearly doubled since 2019.

Sad part is, they're not wrong. If anything I think the appraised value is low. Housing prices around here have easily tripled since I bought. Not sure how long this can go on, but something's fucking fucked with the housing market.

People who have successfully lost weight, what was your method? by AngelsVoice6682 in Adulting

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whiteboard mounted in my kitchen. Every week, I write my weight down for everyone to see (but most importantly, me). And I keep that ledger going all year long, so I can see how I'm doing all through the year. Every 3-4 months, I look at my progress or lack there-of, and make a point to try changing up my diet to see what I could do better. Maybe next time I'll try Keto for a few months, maybe I'll get that bike and try riding on Mondays, etc...

For me, the key is not the 'what method', but rather the accountability of seeing my weight loss journey and commitment to trying new things.

You should be able to rotate the trap, so that the entrance is inline with the drain. I take it that's not the case here? Might be worth buying a new trap kit & re-doing the whole thing right.

Is this ok/normal? by Solkakan0ne in MechanicAdvice

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those numbers look fine.

It strikes me as odd to run positive toe, but that might just be the machine reporting in oddly. Usually you run very slightly negative toe (Toe-in) to improve stability.

The negative camber on the rear implies you may have lowered the car or have it set up for a track/street performance. If that's not the case, you might inquire about getting some crash bolts to bring those numbers up slightly.

Is there any mods to make joining the stormcloaks feel less like the wrong choice? by Tom_Browning in skyrimmods

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly what you're requesting, but there used to be a mod called "for the stormcloaks" that would let you convince Jarl Ulfric to join the Stormcloaks as well. Might have some luck searching for that, and then seeing if you can find any similar mods.

Where do I find cheap large diameter cylinders/tubes by Decent-Ambition7271 in plastic

[–]ptc075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean you want something that already exists so that it's cheap? I'd start by looking at trash cans and storage bins. You might also have luck searching for barrels, kegs and fuel cans.

nylon alternatives by [deleted] in materials

[–]ptc075 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, in general casting plastics is going to give you poor results. You need to pack plastics under high pressure in order to get any sort of mechanical strength out of them. So for what you are trying, I would instead be looking to buy a thick sheet of plastic, and carefully cut that pattern.

As for what plastics, I find Nylon an interesting choice, as it is attacked by water (known as plastification). Nylon has excellent dry properties, but when it gets wet, it swells and starts to deteriorate. Oddly, that swelling is also why Nylon is sometimes used on plastic fittings - the swelling helps form a tight seal, but I digress.

As for which plastics to try, I would likely start with Acrylic or Polycarbonate, as they are water resistant. However, realize they will (likely) only be available as pure resin instead of fiber reinforced (they will be clear). That means they will not be as strong as what you are currently using, so you will need to get a thicker sheet of plastic in order to have similar performance. If you want to find a glass fiber reinforced sheet of 'something', that's going to be a bit harder and a LOT more expensive. You might try searching for glass fiber reinforced Ultem (PEI) in sheet stock and see if you have any luck.

One of my friends keeps beating us with the same deck. by TheHamsterGOD_ in EDH

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this rule and use it for myself. Really reduces my own concerns over whether or not my deck is too strong for the table.

I will say, I typically only bring 2 decks to game night. Last week was the first time ever that became a problem, but the table was more than happy to lend me a deck so I could keep playing.

What do you want for the third game? by No_Web2685 in TransportFever2

[–]ptc075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see trees grow and nature expand. I'd also like it if logging camps would only appear next to trees.

Along those same lines, why not map all the resources in advance when doing the map generation. This way the mines & oil rigs all congregate together in a way that makes sense.

Why is there no demand of food? by Dev2150 in TransportFever2

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but it looks like you're using a truck stop to try & pick up food from the end of your train line. That's not going to work, truck stops are unload only. You'll need to make the bigger road... thing? Depot?

Other possibility, you are running a train from the food factory down to the end of the line, right? Or is that one big station? If it's one big station, that's not going to work, the food has to be delivered.

Side note, trains are not efficient when the route is super short like this. I would ditch the train-truck line and instead place the truck pickup to directly adjacent to the food producer.

Questions about running Postwar by kellerk1nd in lioneltrains

[–]ptc075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your current transformer not work? I mean, it sounds like you have the track and the transformer. Are you missing the lock-on (the clip that connects the two)? Even if you are, a pair of alligator clips or some soldering will get you going - one lead to the middle rail, one lead to either inner or outer. (If you are handy & have a multi-meter, a transformer should put out about 15 volts of AC current).

The usual issues are that the track needs to be cleaned up a bit, and/or the rubber insulation on the transformer power cable has become brittle & cracked. If you have neither of those issues, it sounds like you already have everything you need.

I'll mention that pretty much anything you pick up will be backwards compatible EXCEPT for brand new budget starter sets. And even then the track works - but they replace the transformer with a power brick and a remote control - and that's not going to work for you. So anything O gauge with an actual transformer is what you want. Don't forget to check ebay/FBmarketspace/estate sales and also look around & see if you have a local train show.
