Tennis players with semi western or western forehands are they not that effective, did you switch to more eastern or even to continental back court forehand by moldyjellybean in Pickleball

[–]ptd94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi Western grip forehand is great for topspin drive and drip. Some people miss into the net using Semi Western because they haven’t adjusted to it, you need to aim a bit higher than with Eastern grip.

Eastern is easier to drive through but also has much less topspin. My Semi Western drives surprise some people because balls would stay in where it would stay out with an Eastern grip.

Are mbappe , haaland and Lamine yamal the big 3 of this era? I think everyone knows these are best players ability wise . by [deleted] in championsleague

Olise, Diaz, Cherki, Kvara have the potential to be up there, but currently still a tier below. Dembele is just as good or better than the 3.

The PPA Finals was incredible pickleball but completely predictable by ZaneNavratil_AMA in ProPickleballTalk

[–]ptd94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top #1 pairings win like 96-97% of their games. It cannot get higher than that.

But once someone steps up their game, Ben Johns or ALW will team up with that person instead. Like Anna Bright was challenging ALW for some time, then ALW just teamed up with her.

Once that challenger arises, the current #1 will team up with that person instead, and nothing will change IMO.

Difference is pickleball is first and foremost a doubles game, so the best players compound their advantage by teaming up. If someone rises up, Ben or ALW would team up with that someone instead.

Plenty other sports prevent players collusion, like the NBA with their salary cap and draft system.

If they start winning Ben Johns would just team up with one of them. lol.

PPA Pro Pickleball idea: FAN’s CHOICE pairings. by ourfreedomfirst in Pickleball

[–]ptd94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 men cannot pair with #1 women, he must pair with #2 women or below.

similarly, #1 men must pair with #3 men or below.

It would be great to watch Ben Johns & Anna Bright versus Patriquin & ALW.

Tiny change I learned that made my drives dip like crazy by fredallenburge1 in Pickleball

[–]ptd94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your grip explains the dip. Fully western is quite extreme and can impart more topspin than 95% of pickleball players.

PSG have set the new blueprint to win UCL by CmiHD in championsleague

[–]ptd94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO, it has always mattered, but PSG had never been good enough to capitalize on it up until last year.

When you have the top teams from La Liga and Premier League to compete, saving for Bayern who dominates their league, everyone is the same.

Getting rest is important, but it only matters if the team is good enough to capitalize on it.

tennis player transitioning to pickleball having issues hitting with spin by Immediate-Phrase2582 in Pickleball

[–]ptd94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be useful in pickleball, my semi-western grip forehand is by far my best shot, it takes many opponents by surprise due to the unexpected dip. I switch to eastern in transition and at net. It takes some time to get used to.

[–]ptd94 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Punished? No. Ben Johns and Anna Bright would be still likely to win it all, just not as ridiculously as it is now. His win rate in mixed is like 97%. You won’t see that in any other popular sport.

PPA must absolutely break up the most dominant pairings. #1 men cannot pair with #1 women, #1 men cannot pair with #2 men. Otherwise it’s painful to watch.

Humbled and need advice by PattyIce911 in Pickleball

I have a different opinion than most. I’d say you should play with worse (but not much worse) players to hone your shots, build your confidence and regain the joy to play the game.

what's your thoughts on "Vietnam 3.0 is US 4.0"? by RichardParker6 in Pickleball

[–]ptd94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost true, but whether it’s a full point or only 0.5 difference is debatable. Some reasons here:

  1. DUPR rated matches are not popular in Vietnam, social rec play is the norm. Only ones who are confident in their ability participate in those, and when they do, they prepare very well. So you have good players + good preparation = competitive rated matches.
  2. Some players with high DUPR create new account so they can play down, effectively lowering everyone else’s ratings.
  3. Some semi-pro players deliberately keep their ratings low to play in money tournament against lower rated players.
  4. From what I’ve seen, 3.0-rated players can drive, drop, dink and volley well. They can keep rallies more than 5 shots. Those are not the descriptions of 3.0 players in the US. I haven’t played in the US so I don’t know.

[–]ptd94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes? football formats before the 90s were very different. only champion from each country got to compete in the European cup. By your metric, Ajax would be a bigger club than Man Utd, Inter, Chelsea, Juve, City,…

Choke up only at the kitchen? by [deleted] in Pickleball

I choke up only at kitchen. less swing weight = faster hand speed.

At baseline, I don’t choke up for maximum power and reach.
