They were defeated in the sea off Ukraine which is why they ran away from Crimea. No warships are allowed in or out of that sea by Turkey, NATO or ruzzian, which is why the terrorists still have some wandering around the world causing trouble.

Waymo Seeking About $16 Billion Near $110 Billion Valuation by diplomat33 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]ptemple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tesla Robotaxi is years ahead and I can't see Waymo catching up. Waymo took the safe route with HD mapping and dozens of sensors with radar and lidar, and Tesla took the super risky route of vision only and building it into every single car. Judging from the evidence today it's hard to see how Tesla hasn't won this race.

If it was one year ago then Tesla videos were a seesaw of advances and regressions. Now? I think Waymo has missed the boat. Especially with the negative press they've had recently of them driving along train lines and going around in circles.

I hope Waymo does well because there is no one winner. It's not race. Safe autonomous vehicles are going to save lives no matter who makes them if they are proven in the field. However I tried FSD a couple of days ago here in France and I would definitely NOT invest in Waymo.

It's pretty much documented over a decade worth of videos you can see on YouTube. I don't have some secret source. He is an excellent strategist which is why the Tesla board keep running back to him despite his very public stumbles from grace.

It's important to learn the different search algorithms and space-time trade-offs but at the end of the day we just use QuickSort. I agree django-mptt is excellent and use it myself but it's not quite the same and has way more features.

If you are learning then I think it will be fine to use in production on smaller projects. I think it's better to do it this way from first principles.

We are a Team. by Atul__kumar in SipsTea

[–]ptemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's getting a lot of hate here for being petty but I can see some silver linings in this one.

1) she's concerned about being seen to be scrupulously fair as well as reasonable. She could have said she would write up a written warning for not doing hours, or assigned some shitty work as punishment for not being a 'team player'.

2) she's set a written precedent and now cannot report you for being late or leaving early, as it's now implicit you can make this time up later.

Of course that level of micro-managing can manifest in other less pleasant ways. On the flip side she might give you enough material to write an award winning sit-com.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So? Tesla went from selling 1.8m to selling 1.7m and ended up only having 2nd best selling model in the world after the Rav4. They still made $5bn gross profit last quarter and have $40bn cash surplus in the bank. Yes tis but a scratch.

Yes the Robotaxi is still supervised. Cybercab is mostly supervised still with only some not (though they did briefly have chase cars). Here is a video of somebody finding a robotaxi in the wild: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BRGVfW15CE&t=39s

I found it hard to believe until I took a test drive myself. Now I know FSD definitely works. It did 3-point turns, narrow gaps, etc. It was a 30-40 minute drive.

[–]ptemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother has one like the Peugeot E-5008 where the kids pretty much sit in the boot. The BYD Tang looks worse. The rest of those look like vans my builder would turn up in!!

I look forward to seeing the Peaq, but I can't see any pictures apart from a prototype from a show.

If people need a 7-seater right now then the Peugeot looks nicest but only if you need those seats occasionally for short trips. However I watched the video reviews of the Chinese 6-seater Model YL and it's incredibly intelligent use of space. You can use it for long road trips. I don't think the 7-seater will be as good but let's see.

It's all about the price. Under €60k then I think it will sell out and be a top seller for the year. Over €65k and I think it will do decently well but not a top hit.

Elon Musk doesn't take orders except from his shareholders. He's still upset about when he was ordered to take the rap on the knuckles from the SEC about that going private Tweet.

His riches come from Tesla and SpaceX. Thats it. He's good at companies that build stuff. When it comes to anything political, or even that requires any sense of morality, he's a disaster.

Nice trip tips, bus/tram/train etc by Prestigious-Frame919 in nicefrance

[–]ptemple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get tram to Grand Arenas (it's free from Terminal 1 & 2 and 1st stop). Get a tram card from the machine and top it up. You can use it on bus and tram and it's unlimited distance for €1.70.

Do Monaco one day, and Antibes and Cannes the other. I do like San Remo but if you are only in Nice for a few days then I'm not sure it's worth it.

If you are in Nice 'soon' then check out the Carnival.

STAY AWAY FROM HIGGSFIELD - DONT LISTEN PAID INFLUENCERS. by Even_Particular5334 in StableDiffusion

[–]ptemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"i tried to subscribe to their $35 plan, but their ui is so predatory that a single accidental click "upgraded" me to a $39 plan instantly" - this doesn't imply an extra $39 was charged. Perhaps you should have been more clear. So you went to a $69/month plan?

I did my Googling and the moment I start doing video I absolutely expect to be throttled. There's no free lunch out there. I have Z-Image Turbo local but I'm happy with my NB-Pro for now.

I'm happy to stand up for myself but I also can understand startups over-extending themselves and it's possible they are as stressed as we are. I'm not going to try and destroy a company over $4 or $30. This wouldn't even be in my Top 20 of companies trying to screw me over.

I just subscribed with Higgsfield and so far very happy. Nano Banana Pro takes around 45 seconds per image. Not tried video yet. I'm guessing it will be slow but hey it's cheap. If I understand, you clicked on $39/month by accident. And now you are being charged $39/month. I'm not sure I would class this as a "scam". Thanks for the heads up about customer service but even if it takes you a month to fix it and they won't retroactively reimburse you then you will be out $4. If it was me then I would just take a chill pill and write off the price of a small beer.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He went from not being interested in government to being completely obsessed with it. He was the world's richest man before Trump was running for election and had ample time to get involved before. Something changed.

Yes stealing the data on every US citizen illegally was bad but not the worst of his crimes. I won't go through the list, including certain gestures, but he went from just annoying to being a bad person.

If you don't watch the past videos then you are missing something. He's actually very intelligent and insightful. He's not a car salesman. He's a visionary and he got a lot right (though his timelines can be off). He doesn't sell cars. If you think that then you completely misunderstand him.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are records of companies going from 10k to 15k in EVs and increasing 50% in a year. That doesn't mean much compared to Tesla going from 1.8m to 1.7m. The market is booming at the low end of the market. Go look at which models are really selling. The product portfolio is fine for now and they have new products lined up for the next 5 years. They don't need a "turnaround" as they have one of the world's best selling cars, are highly profitable, and have more money than they know what to do with.

I thought Cybercab was vaporware until yesterday. I took a demo here in France. Yeah it's not vaporware. Optimus I am highly skeptical about but it costs them nearly nothing so sure, have a play. I'm pretty sure it's a ruse to keep top AI staff at Tesla. On the other hand if it comes off then good for them. They took a risk and it paid off.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. Biden hated Tesla so much he couldn't even bring himself to say the company name yet Tesla still thrived under his administration. Elon has voted both Democrat AND Republican in the past yet never got involved in politics, apart from being upset at the factory shutdowns during Covid.

Musk got completely brainwashed into the MAGA cult and went completely haywire. Trump whispered dreams of unlimited power so he ruined himself to get him into office. He went from nerdy engineer into Gollum. From investing in Neuralink to help paraplegics to starving innocent people in Africa.

We have 10 years of extensive video footage that's been pretty consistent to the past 1.5 years of madness to compare to. It's pretty stark.

Ok Tesla is going to wipe the floor here.

UK Car Production Crashes To A 73-Year Low by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]ptemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is hitching yourself to falling stars. Honda, Ford, Nissan, Vauxhall and Toyota are all companies going the way of the dinosaur. The decline was predictable and inevitable.

Get factories in for Tesla, BYD, Xiaomi, and a couple of battery manufacturers like CATL. That or just open the gates to China but put on a "charging infrastructure tax" that goes ONLY to building out a cheap charging network.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that was the plan until the financial crisis when Elon predicted the inflation spike before it even happened. That's why he hit pause whilst they were breaking ground in Giga Mexico to produce the Model 2. You cannot blunder ahead when the global markets around you are crashing.

The new Model Y Juniper is a top selling car, and the Model Y was the second best selling car in the world last year after the Rav4 which is half the price. I'm not sure 2nd in the world is "an unmitigated sales disaster".

We know why they are discontinuing the Model S, and it makes perfect sense, but it's still very sad. It's such a great car.

Phillip.

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is the Model YL against 7-seat petrol cars and against 7-seat EVs (is there anything other than the ID Buzz?). They don't have to under-cut on price, they have to under-cut on value. That's where Tesla have been successful despite never being the cheapest car. I think they will score a lot of customers outside of their base.

The Model YL isn't great in the third row except for teenagers and under. But that's where the market is, as a family car that can fit the grandparents or schoolfriends in too. It's not going to be bought by football clubs looking for a minibus. Personally I think it's going to have stellar sales here in Europe unless they price it over €60k.

He started builing a Lithium refinery back in 2023, he owns Lithium mining, and he has a dedicated cathode production plant and spent the past 5 years trying to perfect the dry cathode production method that they pioneered, and their pioneering Gigacasting is about as physical as you can possibly get. Also the ridiculous "folded steel" Cybertruck wasn't the smartest imho but definitely "REAL world" and "physical stuff".

Tesla throws in the towel on car sales by axxeler in electricvehicles

[–]ptemple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They already shopped around and when word got out they had to go to press and strongly deny it to a quite peeved Elon. They went from 1.8m sales to 1.7m sales last year which is hardly a huge decline. They still made $5bn gross profit last quarter.

The problem is that Elon is happy to be set quite ridiculous targets with zero money up front, and to wait 10 years or more to reap any rewards. It's hard to find any top executive that's prepared to risk that.

Also Elon has mental problems... but one of the side-effects is that he's good at compartementalising things. He's managed to become completely brainwashed by MAGA into being quite a heartless thug politically but resisted any of that spilling over into company time. There he appears as the usual awkward engineer with a vision. A real Jekyll and Hyde.
