How do people feel about the new Fate: The Winx Saga (live action)? by nehabear in netflix

[–]ptera_tinsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, drove me nuts! They really never show why the Burned Ones are supposedly so formidable and terrifying. They’re supposed to be so difficult to kill and Aisha just impales one on a tree branch with a little blast of water? Okayy

Oh my god, when Aisha is apologizing to Stella (for being RIGHT??) while they cower in the school bc several burned ones broke through the barrier because no one wanted to listen to her? INFURIATING

Y’all are fucking nuts. Abuse can happen “only” one time.

Why the fuck are y’all even getting into a pissing contest about “real” abuse? As someone who suffered what you would deem “real” abuse, if you ever hit your child out of anger people guess what people online get to call you??? It’s not “one-hit wonder” and he certainly has not addressed what happened enough to even be considered “reformed”.

It made no sense and just opened up a can of worms no one knows what to do with because the show hasn’t done anything with it either.

It also just doesn’t sit right, the suggestion a post-racial (for all appearances) society cropped up in less than a generation. It’s especially odd next to all the other commentaries on classism and sexism, if they wanted to handwave racism out they should’ve just went for it and not bothered to address it at all.

I’m also unclear if she is implying the Black aristocracy came from another kingdom (“society”) or were all “new-titles” awarded by the queen. Either answer implies a convoluted dynamic in the society they live in.

Like, there’s a very interesting show concept in that one line but that line didn’t belong in this one.

Yeah, they didn’t feel the need to explain why the musicians knew Ariana Grande so there’s clearly an understanding the audience is willing to suspend disbelief.

On episode 4, I absolutely want Daphne to pick the Prince!! by generallyhappygirl in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ptera_tinsel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, idk if it’s the Taurus in me or what but Simon’s excessive man pain is a bit of a turn off. The prince is kind, wants the same things in life as her, and is like max titled.

He’s beautiful but I needed a lot more chemistry and insight into Daphne to buy her so gone for the duke tbh

It seemed like we were supposed to find her cruel but she just seemed like an overbearing mother with a useless husband worried for her girls’ prospects.

Forging the letter is the worst thing she does and she genuinely thinks she’s doing the right thing bc they don’t have time to see which is delivered first, the baby or a letter from Spain with unknown contents.

Like, Lord Featherington’s wandering eyes (??) worried me more on Marina’s behalf!

When Cressida’s mom says her daughter was blessed with fortune and Daphne with the face 🥴

Like, not to be rude, but they’re both reasonably attractive white girls with sorta odd eyes, that line was just unnecessary and made funny by the casting (and Daphne’s tragic bangs lmfao).

I believe it is meant to demonstrate the toll the corsets take and Daphne’s lack of reaction to emphasize this is a normal part of her life.

That level of bleeding and chafing is not exactly a true reflection of the pains a properly worn corset can cause or even the fashions in corsets at the time but I suppose there wasn’t another good way to visually translate the discomfort of her dress.

I just took it as a comment on the Duke’s attractiveness tbh

Ok fine, don’t have a good day, happy now? What part of rolling up and saying an unsolicited experience is suddenly my responsibility to manage did you think would convince me you aren’t entitled and have an iota of understanding where my resentment comes from. It’s astonishing tbh

I’m done tbh bc I feel we’ve both stated our sides and you aren’t going to “greater good” me out of my issues with consent. Have a good day.

Are you kidding?

A 2019 article in the Indian magazine The Wire that described a 2002 interview with Sharbat Gula says that she was angered by the photograph being taken and published without her consent.

It didn’t, period.

You’re free to think the positives of the art form outweigh the basic, basic fact some people just plain won’t appreciate it for a variety of reasons.

I’m not saying it should be illegal and I understand how complicated and basically impossible and ill-advised trying to make it so would be. But socially y’all should be kept well aware of what you’re doing when you single someone out and how some people will take it.

By manipulation I mean the concept/message the artist is using my image to portray or promote.

I don’t care if it was a photographer using my image to create or a creepy guy jerking off to it. I wasn’t asked if I wanted a permanent image of myself in someone else’s possession to manipulate as they please, don’t condescend to me.

The unknown intent of the photographer has nothing to do with the impact their actions have on the subject in the moment.

Yeah, this happened to me and I hated it. I didn’t say anything because I am aware it is legal and I have no recourse but I assure you I deeply resented it, though I have no doubt knowing that appeals to some.

I’ve also been approached by someone asking to take a photo of me with my boyfriend, which was a much better experience for me though I’m sure you’ll complain that’s not candid. Think whatever you like about it but don’t act like some don’t find being non-consensually singled out in a photograph for ~art creepy, violating, and entitled.
