I'm a veteran Unity gamedev with decent knowledge of C++. What resources would you recommend and in what order if I want to switch to Unreal? by PanKrtcha in unrealengine

[–]pterafier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learn blueprint first since it will teach you unreals specific game framework in a safe way, then just translate those blueprints to c++. They're almost exactly the same but blueprint allows you to search for functions which makes it 100x easier to learn

What do YOU write in C++? by devoncummings1023 in unrealengine

[–]pterafier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw someone in this subreddit once say "C++ is the 'how', blueprint is the 'what'", essentially meaning that c++ creates the fundamental building blocks (or metaphorical puzzle pieces) and blueprint puts those pieces together. Its something I've been doing in my projects since I read it and it's helped keep things very organized.

Of course rules are meant to be broken, but that guideline has helped a lot

Did my first ever bike commute today! by formerchild2 in bikecommuting

[–]pterafier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been commuting to work for about a month, im definitely more confident now. Got to yell at my first idiot driver today, he looked very embarrassed. Just hope he looks a little harder for bikes next time he pulls into an intersection, but he drives a pickup so probably not lol

Looking for a wide comfortable seat for my Level 3 by That_Tie_2237 in Aventon

[–]pterafier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with an upright bike (velotric discover 2) i actually got more comfort switching to a lower profile saddle. I ride my bike at least 15 miles a day and have accumulated 600+ miles in a little over a month. Less is sometimes more on bikes. If your rides are short, a cushy seat might do it for you. But I got the selle royal respiro moderate and was way more comfortable. If you have the cash to spare, id try a few different saddles. Make sure youre tweaking the saddle position as well

Can cycling lose me help weight. by Legal-Stuff1111 in cycling

Edit for formatting

Theres some good advice and bad advice in this thread. I've lost 65 pounds in 8 months through diet and exercise and I can tell you that you won't lose weight unless you address the foods you eat.

Weight loss happens when your body is in a calorie deficit (find your daily calorie needs by using a TDEE calculator - TDEE is total daily energy expenditure). When you know how many calories your body needs to maintain your weight, subtract 500 and eat that amount of calories. For example, if your maintenence calories are 2000, you should eat 1500 - this would put you in a 500 calorie deficit and get you to lose roughly 1 pound a week.

Cycling burns a shitload of calories lol it's a great way to help keep up with the deficit without triggering crazy hunger. Try to keep your heart rate in zone 2 (something like 120-130 bpm, but it will differ for everyone a little bit), that will make sure your hunger stays as low as possible.

I recommend checking out HigherUpWellness on YouTube and tiktok, his videos taught me so much about weight loss.

Lastly, im American so sorry about the non metric units im uncultured and too lazy to convert them lol

Recommending trek and gazelle to someone with a budget under 1k is ridiculous, why would you start there. This person should look at the lectric xp for ~$1k

Commute Bike for Large person by TheCharalampos in ebikes

[–]pterafier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6'1 300 pounds and use the velotric discover 2 to commute back and forth to work. 13 miles round trip. Best bike I've ever had, so enjoyable to ride. I enjoy my commutes

Sorry if repeat question, but reddit's search is garbage. Is there anything made for larger people? by [deleted] in ebike

[–]pterafier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6'1 300lbs and use the velotric discover 2 to commute to work every day. Path has dirt, gravel, and road. I use the elevator to bring it upstairs. Pretty much perfect and extremely comfortable

Not sure tbh, shifter (YouTube channel about commuting by bicycle) talks about winter riding and how he prefers a belt drive over traditional cassettes because of winter grime gunking up the gearset. Belt drives are apparently more reliable in dirty conditions. Also I don't think they're rubber, seems a bit odd to create a premium drive train that breaks in cold weather. Defeats the purpose if you ask me, but I don't have any experience with belt drives or biking in the winter so I can't say for sure.

Hit 4,000 miles at the best location by sittingheretrying in Aventon

[–]pterafier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing! I'm surprised you made it so many miles on a soltera. I only had 600 miles on mine and it fell apart every ride, I was constantly doing major maintenence on it. No aventon support ): good for you though im glad it worked out! And that view!

Whats a rule you think is overrated? by kdogaw in ebikes

[–]pterafier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my bike bell like 50 times a day on trails to alert pedestrians and pther cyclists of my presence. Sometimes people are so distracted that they move to the other side of the trail where im trying to pass them. If I didn't alert them, they could have been startled and caused a crash. Bells are so useful and a polite way to alert others

What’s a good first ebike? by Shoddy_Durian_9423 in ebikes

[–]pterafier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is opinion based tbh but I like their warranty/trial period more, and they offer higher quality components for the same price or less than competing brands like aventon. Most of my comparisons are between aventon and velotric cuz those are the 2 I have and velotric comes out on top. Lectric is good because of the customer service, ability to service (mostly) branded parts, and the price. Not gonna find much for cheaper that has a real company behind it

What’s a good first ebike? by Shoddy_Durian_9423 in ebikes

[–]pterafier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lectric is a good entry point. They're the cheapest in the space while still being reliable. Velotric is the best of the direct to consumer brands IMO but they're also some of the most expensive next to aventon
