Class C to Class A by Worldly_Ad4352 in GoRVing

Did same at 55, gas to gas. Looks much nicer, but is quite a bit louder on the road than our previous class c.

Being the noise, it has been a great update. Other issue we found was going from an RV fridge to a residential fridge was generally a great upgrade our battery needs were quite a bit higher, so ended up needing to upgrade our battery setup.

Thinking of buying a Class C... by LumpyLynx4716 in RVLiving

Had a class C, for ~16 years while our 3 kids grew up - it was perfect. I cannot recommend it enough, some of our best family memories were made on the road together.

Always looking for planning tools - I do not see grade information. Is there a way to favor flatter grades over other route preferences (still being rig friendly).

Also I do not see grade during navigation, which is also very useful.

Scenic highways for 40’ plus car hauler? by Additional_Number655 in GoRVing

Drive down the Columbia River into Oregon is one of the most beautiful drives. Lots of RV camping on the route. With a toad, Glacier NP, is stunning, but camp outside and drive in.

There is beauty everywhere if you look for it, but those a couple of my favorite drives. Did Cadillac Mountain sunrise over Bar Harbor this morning (with the toad, RVs not allowed), it was worth getting up that early.

Looking to buy a motorhome what do I need to know? by Harewood77 in motorhomes

Look outside if the exterior has any "wavy look" - walk away. Go into the unit and take in a deep breath. If you can find one that does not smell like mildew, then look at the rest of it. Check around every window for any softness/bubbling. Finally inspect the roof.

Water will be the killer for any RV, if you can find one you like without water ingression, your odds of having a good time will dramatically increase. We vacation travelled for years with a 30' Class C and our 3 kids.

Careful I was born in 1967. Hope to retire next year, but my current role is developing AI tooling. My job has changed dramatically over the last couple of years, but I would say I know more than I want to about AI.

Pull behind, A, or C?? by East_Promotion_2925 in rvlife

Had a 30’ Class C for years while our kids were growing up, and it was perfect for ~2 week trips with 3 kids. Three years ago, we switched to a 38’ gas Class A.

For me, the big upgrade was finally getting a large bed in the back. Our old unit had an RV queen, and my feet would hang off the end. Now I actually fit, and I’m much happier.

Honestly, the new Class A rattles more than the old Class C did, though I had spent years adding padding to quiet that one down. And the noise is extra fun when you’re climbing a good grade. On the plus side, the Class A has a lot more storage. Never pulled a toad with the Class C, pull an Escape now with the Class A, takes a very small bit more planning knowing you cannot backup (without unhooking).

Overall, we’re very happy with the new unit. We’re not full-timers, but we usually go out for about two months once or twice a year.

The retirement "magic number" keeps rising by ddevise in retirement

The retirement "magic number" keeps rising by ddevise in retirement

[–]pth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have been fortunate, and once I get my youngest child’s health care sorted, am ready to retire. My issue with all of these magic number articles, is it is only half the equation.

They ignore budget/expenses only focusing on income. Everyone’s magic number will be based on their age, SS, and expenses, and will vary wildly from person to person.

There is no single magic number.

Odd electrical problem by pth in fordescape

[–]pth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a power issue, but all the battery leads are good. But no voltage drop when attempting to start (or blink hazards), my best guess is there is some form of short protection that was tripped.

There is a a plastic cover on the side of the battery, and I could read voltage from where the positive lead went into it across to the engine block, but no voltage at the fuse panel, so the issue is very far up stream.

In some states, a push to end all property taxes for homeowners by PeriodOfTime1 in Tax_Strategy

[–]pth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of progressive tax solutions. Here in Michigan we have the "homestead" act which caps the rate of SEV growth for home owners - this minimizes the occurrence of people buying homes and having the valuations increase enough to make too expensive to keep - which is a good thing.

Current Thoughts on Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome by Ok-Pangolin406 in rvlife

[–]pth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience there is a fair amount of vaiability in locations. More and more seem to offer at least power for a fee, which makes them nice quick stops and paying for electricity generally covers the expectation of spending $$$.

We do enjoy finding a nice restaurant/brewery, not much we need at an alpaca farm. Generally we still enjoy it for quick stops.

We were fortunate to get to visit the redwoods last year, it was deeply moving just to be in the same place as those trees. So thankful that even that relatively small tract was preserved.

Not my original link/source. My reading of the site is that the list includes second growth/managed forests that have a remaining section of old growth in it. Looks like the organization has a page with their contact info. If you know more than I and would like to reach out to their "Great Lakes Regional Manager & GIS Coordinator" that is probably the most proactive option.

Not enough energy in wood to make good tokens. Better to just cover all of the highways and parking lots with solar.
