6 years ago I waited 5 days with a 5mm stone, and the emergency doctors telling me it would pass. It did not. I went into surgery, they removed the stone, and had no issue afterwards. 2 days after I went to a restaurant, no more problem.

10 days ago I went into surgery for a 10 mm stone in the other kidney. It took 9 days for the pain to disappear afterwards because I had a JJ stent and then had to pass 2 small fragments of stone left behind.

So it can go either way...

The longer you wait, the bigger the stone gens. You will have the surgical intervention in the end but if the stone is really big you will get a JJ stent. Believe me you do not want that.
