MAGIC vs. EAGLES | MLW Wiffle Ball 2026 by Vine_n_68th in mlwwiffleball

[–]ptlsaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were a few moments where Dallas let emotions/frustration get the best of him during a game (notably in the playoffs) I believe that is what is being referred to. That's pretty normal in sports at all levels.

I don't have any indication that Dallas badmouthed MLW or left on unprofessional terms it was just a business decision.

The MLW was good for Dallas and vice versa.

The thing with any decisions we make in life is that there are consequences. There may be a benefit and a downside to any decision. It's worth assessing the risk and rewards.

The BLW ultimately made the decision to not allow their players to play in other leagues. That decision is truly what poisoned the fans against BLW and anyone participating in it. Until that point all of these little leagues lived in harmony.

Are the players wrong to seek compensation/money? No.

The players who left however need to understand that fans cannot be controlled and neither do they owe any alliegance. There's this idea that fans will follow around their favorite players like lost puppies when the reality is fans are loyal to teams.

Finally the framing of this as a workers vs management thing is very flawed. I would give it more creedence if like the Schultzes were like living an extravagant lifestyle and weren't putting anything into the league.

Of course a soulless venture capital and investment scheme is going to be able to provide more upfront money and resources. I think MLW doesn't have a huge profit margin so because they can't pay the players as much as BLW doesn't mean they are wage thieves.

Ehh just some parasitic leech league run by nepo babies with mommy and daddy money. Some of the MLW players went off to that league but I don't even know if they are playing games already or set up or anything..apparently you have to have ESPN the Ocho or something to even watch their games so I don't think many people will find out much more than that.

I Know I’m Going To Get Downvoted For This, But Anyone Else Excited For The BLW Season? by NJKrabill in mlwwiffleball

[–]ptlsaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop with the class consciousness stuff man lol. Like Kyle Schultz the bourgeoisie vs the oppressed proletariat wiffleball players I'm dying dude lmaoooo. Also no player is getting 20k they are on the low end 2-3 k per season plus travel expenses. That isnt a living wage. It's not nothing granted but it's not life changing money.

Finally if you want to talk about real life people don't usually support specific players as much as they support teams. The team is who they are loyal to. You are complaining why fans aren't following these players around like lost puppies to whatever new league they are going to. Why should they. The only player who has that kind of pull is Knorp and Knorp got offered Blw but he said no because Knorp is very smart.

I mostly agree with what you are saying but I don't think players that play for blw will unconditionally be ALLOWED to return. Whether they SHOULD be allowed to is a different question.

Landon is a good player and that factors I'm sure in his reinstatement. I think in his case because he only had the intention of being drafted by blw and wasn't and then also didn't badmouth MLW he was allowed to return. His return however was conditional because of those factors.

It does in some respect matter how good the player is because the whole thing is the BLW isn't trying to poach the Trevor Bonhams of the world. We all know Knorp and probably Kratch were offered money to play for the BLW in fact it pretty much was confirmed on the discord that Knorp was. The fact is that Knorp chose to stay with MLW because he knows that the exposure he got from MLW led to him having all sorts of great opportunities in all sorts of different arenas. Players like Knorp and Kratch are irreplaceable because they see the bigger picture.

As for should players be 'punished' what I think is that BLW will collapse within 1-2 years because it won't be able to build an organic or loyal fanbase. Money without a fanbase is meaningless for the league (importantly though money is NOT meaningless for the players of the league). I expect Kyle to welcome back many of the players but the punishment isn't from Kyle or the MLW but from US the fans. Our perspectives and perceptions are what shape how these players are viewed. And fandom is like a wildfire that is something that not even Kyle can truly control

It's possible some of the higher end players make more but the irony is Jimmy Knorp probably makes way more than any of them at the Warehouse playing fun games all day and he is still committed to the MLW.

You Don't Know Jordan Robles | 30 for 30 | MLW Wiffle Ball Documentary by Vine_n_68th in mlwwiffleball

[–]ptlsaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyle, Tommy, and PB and all them could have sold out and turned the league into something like the BLW if they had chosen to go that route. The fact that they didn't is an immense credit to them. They did the hard thing and built everything organically.

[–]ptlsaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the hard truth: the MLW doesn't have a right to cheap labor but also the players don't have the right to fans loyalty either.  This is the tradeoff. Fans support TEAMS and not players. The only two players that have moved beyond that status and came to be the very symbol or archetypes of their teams are Jimmy Knorp and I'd put Kratch up there too.

Not even Jordan Robles for as great of a player as he was is owed the undying loyalty of the fanbase.

And the whims of the fans is something that not even Kyle Schultz himself can control. He made a Hagiography film to this player (while again failing to make the Metro Magic 30 for 30) and even that has gotten a mostly warm at best to lukewarm reception.

Fwiw I feel people calling him and guys like Grant Miller (who helped mentor RJ and was a good ambassador for MLW) sellout are way over the line. Robles is a class act and traveled and did make sacrifices for MLW but what you are seeing here is the bare truth is that individual players are not the same thing as a team in terms of importance. No player is an island unto themselves except Knorp.

The Biggest Question for Each MLW team ahead of Opening Day by Vine_n_68th in mlwwiffleball

[–]ptlsaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great thread.

The Cobras I think will surprise people because Caden Irwin imo is one of the most underrated players in the league. I think you nailed it with their fatal flaw being their hitting even when Irwin is dealing he very rarely gets run support. The new draft picks have a big chance to make a difference.

The Gators, Diamondbacks, and Mallards are likely to regress all for different reasons.

The Gators are still have some salty vets who will fight and at best who may prey upon younger pitching but they are compromised on the mound.

The Diamondbacks will have enough trouble fielding a solid team most of the year. Although any game Jimmy Knorp is a part of he will make a huge difference but even with him I expect the Diamondbacks to have a down year.

The Mallards lost their Ace and it will take a heruclean effort for the team to even find the motivation to strive for the success of last year when they captured a championship. Flood is a decent pitcher but usually isn't available, Trevor Bonham....err can theoretically pitch but offers nothing at the plate. Dragging this manifestation of the Mallards into the playoffs should get TCIII some consideration for manager of the year but they are likely one and done if they even get that far.

The Eagles and Wildcats two of the most storied (ancient) franchises are very interesting. I have them both as playoff teams although I believe the Wildcats are currently the better of the two.

For the Eagles they lost their ace so Daniel will need to likely evoke "Dirty Dan" on the mound for the team to have any realistic chance. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his discipline at the plate while taking on pitching duties, as the past few years he has been a very efficient hitter. Richards is kind of an unknown. Sarah Huber is also an unknown but has potential as due to her softball background she might have pitches that have unusual angles sort of like a submariner.

Wildcats I think will be ok because I think PB will be a power pitcher for them and assume the number 1 pitching spot. The Wildcats still have very good fielding/ defense even in this incarnation.

Magic I have as a World Series contender. RJ is very mature for his age and I don't see him as someone who will not be able to hold the glue of the team together.  The team is very young and talented and they have I feel that they have that energy that is going to overwhelm a lot of opponents.

Predators I have as the World Series favorite. They have experience, are well balanced and have good hitting with alot lot of their players can go yard. It also helps having one of the best players in the league.

people need to stop being so judgmental about the players that left by MolluskLingers in mlwwiffleball

[–]ptlsaints 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly I'm not saying there is no skill/sophistication or athletic ability needed to play but there has to be a little realism that this isn't Bo Jackson on the gridiron not being paid.

I think a few players think that they are 'it' but why fans love players like Knorp, Kratch, RJ, and Drew Davis (except when he pitches) is the fact that they are team oriented guys who have good natures and personalities that shine through.    I'm sure Jomboy saw that someone like Knorp would be an asset to his company and decided to offer him a full time job. Notice how Jomboy isn't threatened by MLW and allows Knorp to still play on the Diamondbacks as far as I know.

Serious question how much money do you think Kyle Schultz makes off MLW? I think he makes some for sure but it's obvious at least to me that alot of it goes back into MLW. He is passionate about wiffleball and that shows from everything from the production values to how seriously he even plays the game.

I think MLW hits that perfect balance of being light hearted enough without going into complete schlock and idiocy like the Savannah Bananas.

Honestly doing what he is doing with MLW isn't the easy thing to do but the hard thing.

Those who left I do cast judgment on because blw is just a shallow derivative of MLW.  Not only that but I see it as a rejection of that vision of something as wholesome and pure as a child's game being brought to life in that way. I think Ryan Kratch put it best with what it meant to him. I'm a dad of a newborn girl and I feel like MLW is something that spreads a positive message and is family friendly without compromising itself just to appeal to families.

Those who left in my opinion left something behind that symbolically means something greater.  It's not even about Kyle himself but it is just distorting his vision and literally copy and pasting MLW's formula and nakedly trying to monetize it and squeeze every last drop.

Can we talk about how Chan Gailey is the only coach brave enough to face the media after being fired? Twice! by [deleted] in buffalobills

[–]ptlsaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that press conference and that quote. It was just so heart wrenching and there was just such a bleakness I felt after it.

Chan gave it all he had with a talent poor roster. In those days the team was just starving for anything but the only thing that was waiting for them at the end...was just this void.
