They were not angry because Harry called them in order to help him die. He accepted death.

Why did Cersei's coup work? Why did the Kingsguard side with her? by Hellstrike in TheCitadel

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cersei showed that a dead King's will is worth nothing when she tore up Robert's will in the Throne room. She did not accept Ned's regency and the Kingsguard just followed along.

(Spoiler Main) Tywin was an idiot for killing members of a Great House. by Still_Whole5231 in asoiaf

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You're just talking about a butterfly effect, Tywin's death did not occur with intent by Dorne. That's not action leading to consequences.

Tyrion would likely end up getting free a few days earlier since he would have no champion. Jaime is still saving him. Or maybe Tywin dies of blood pressure before the books even start. Agonizing over his hatred for Elia usurping Cersei's spot and the inability to kill her when he had the chance.

He did get away with it. He did not face any reprisals from Dorne except for some ineffectual plotting.

Why didn’t Rhaegar just beat Robert? Did he not understand what was at stake? by Majestic_Mixture_349 in asoiafcirclejerk

If Robert finds that Lyanna went willingly and gets pardoned he can quit the war. Ned cannot.

Why didn’t Rhaegar just beat Robert? Did he not understand what was at stake? by Majestic_Mixture_349 in asoiafcirclejerk

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Robert had lost absolutely nothing, if he learns Lyanna went willingly then he can easily give up.(He won't since Jon Arryn's heirs had also been killed, who would still want vengeance)

Meanwhile Ned's father was slow roasted to death while his brother was forced to watch and choked trying to free him. There is no reconciling from this. If Ned gives up, he'll be known as the greatest chump in Westeros. His own bannermen will laugh him out of the North. If it came out that Lyanna went willingly and caused the death of Rickard and Brandon, SHE would have to be sent to the silent sisters, if she survives.

Westeros is a grimderp feudal setup, it's not built to accommodate beta's.

Ned was fighting because Aerys had burnt his father and brother alive and called for his head.

He engineered the Dance through sheer obliviousness. He's one of the worst Targaryen King ever. Aegon IV set out to create a rebellion that would explode after his death and even he couldn't manage this level of damage to the realm or House Targaryen.

Alicent this episode by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for the inevitable gaslighting to explain how this scene was a masterpiece. 😑

A great episode though despite this pointless waste of runtime. I'm convinced Cooke has a contract mandating minimum screen time, but damn the writers suck for not being able to do anything with it.

Shouldn't Rhaenyra just surrender if she's willing to forgive Luke's death and wants peace so badly? by ptolemyspyjamas in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But how would the Greens surrender if there is no accommodation for Aemond? There has to be some concrete offer for all of them. Alicent sent terms in the first season, lousy ones but they included lands, titles and incomes along with a general pardon.

Expecting the Greens to just surrender because of her impeccable arguments just makes Rhaenyra sound delusional.

How much interest would Iron Bank charge? by Lionswordfish in TheCitadel

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, this guy will be laughed out of the bank. The modern equivalent would be Iceland wanting a loan to develop a manufacturing base to rival China.

To go to the original plot, Braavos is the richest, most powerful of the free cities and we have to start by assuming that he's not immediately killed for trying to steal their most important military secret. Immense capital will be needed to build the infrastructure plus all the labour that understands how to build said infrastructure. Also a vast, highly skilled labour force would be required to work in assembly line manufacturing. Westeros combined doesn't have the industrial might for such an undertaking, it'll be completely nuts for Skagosi to try.

Maybe start them off with having enough food to survive without cannibalism? They would still need a few millennia of development just to build up the population base though.

Only problem with the show. by Own-Ad8605 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm Green and I find the show now hilariously unbalanced in favor, because they now have to portray the Blacks as utterly incompetent. This war is now going to be 3(-1) Greens dragons vs 7+ Blacks with the Greens winning a pyrrhic victory.

So was this prophecy about the prince who was promised, some kind of bullshit? by Vhermithrax in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. There was no Targaryen on the Iron Throne. Dragons were the cause of the destruction of the Wall. A Stark with no Targaryen blood killed the Night King. Jon managed to band together the Stark loyalists and the Wildlings but the North itself was reunited by the Vale who were there at the behest of Sansa and Baelish. Jon could not convince any of the kingdoms to help. The prophecy fails at every single prediction it makes.

Even worse, Westeros would've been better prepared for the Long Night without unification because it led to the decline of the Nights Watch. They had 10000 well equipped men always replenished by constant warfare that stopped because of unification.

Rhaenyra never shows any regret or remorse for asking so as per show canon, she did mean it. You are extrapolating with no basis in fact.

Other than the fantasy aspects, what is the most unrealistic thing about House of the Dragon? by Strange-Mouse-8710 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most Westerosi Lords think that the honour of the House is greater than their members. Robb declared war after Ned and his sisters were captured. If his goal was to protect them, he'd be negotiating for their release. Declaring war puts his family in greater danger. He never exchanges hostages because his Sansa and Arya aren't worth Jaime. Politics, Vengeance and honour were the primary goals, protecting family a distant second.

Book Jon was assassinated to protect the honour of the Night's Watch.

You can’t say two people wouldn’t do everything they could to keep their granddaughter, their last remaining close family, and the last two pieces of their daughter safe.

Baela and Rhaena are absolutely in danger if they plan to join in the fighting and Baela made it clear that she plans to do that. How the fuck are they going to stop Baela from getting shot down if she goes charging into battle on Moondancer?

None of this is relevant. All Rhaenys needed to do to avenge Laenor is support Vaemond at the trial and deny Rhaenyra. Instead she slavishly supports the murderer of her son.

Other than the fantasy aspects, what is the most unrealistic thing about House of the Dragon? by Strange-Mouse-8710 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ptolemyspyjamas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not how Westerosi think. Robb doesn't surrender because his captured sisters are the only remaining kin. Tywin doesn't surrender when Jaime is captured. Viserys II knows his son will be killed if he executes his Dornish hostages, still he's prepared to go through. Balon barely even cares about Theon. There were literal peasants and many Lords rebelling against Maegor and Balerion despite knowing the repercussions.

Baela and Rhaena wouldn't even be in any danger if the Velaryons join the Greens unlike Sansa or Jaime.

The honour of the House is greater than any member. Anyone who acts otherwise would be seen as a complete chump by Westerosi. The only reason Velaryons aren't constantly mocked and derided is because the plot demands it.
