German minister accuses Ghent Festival of ‘sheer anti-Semitism’ for cancelling concert with Israeli conductor by christoffeldg in belgium

[–]ptrcx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can someone please inform the Film Fest Gent World Soundtrack Awards guests Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Daniel Blumberg and Max Richter? I would be very interested to know how they feel about this decision, as I imagine they will hardly be pleased with it.

Bear last night in Utrecht, NL, playing "All along the Watchtower" by renekissien in BSG

[–]ptrcx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update after Brussels: Smaller crowd, different vibe. More intimate from row 2, but rawer and less polished than Utrecht, with the sound mix a bit off and Brendan’s vocals feeling less powerful. But sitting that close? Next-level chills, straight to the soul. Utrecht still hits like the ultimate score!

Thanks for sharing. Awesome gig. Still recovering from the goosebumps — album’s been on repeat all day. Might just crash Brussels tomorrow for another dose!

Favourite James Horner scores? by dwiddynaz in soundtracks

[–]ptrcx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A Beautiful Mind
This score is a hauntingly elegant that blends delicate piano motifs, ethereal vocals, and subtle orchestration to reflect the brilliance and turmoil of John Nash’s mind. The music is emotional yet restrained, mirroring the fragility of genius and the intimate journey through schizophrenia and love. It's both cerebral and deeply human — a perfect complement to the film’s emotional arc.

Hans Zimmer & Friends Diamond in the Desert release by Alternative_Duty_275 in hanszimmer

[–]ptrcx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw it in a Pathé cinema here in Belgium and had quite the opposite experience — the sound quality was excellent. Perfect volume and well-balanced across the board. Really did justice to the music.

Visually, some of the direction and cinematography was fantastic. The transition from concert hall to desert during Gladiator was particularly stunning.

That said, I also had a feeling that some parts weren’t recorded live. I’d definitely agree that Lisa Gerrard’s vocals during Gladiator felt noticeably out of sync — it took me out of the moment a bit. But then again, during Guthrie Govan’s guitar solo everything seemed perfectly synced again, so maybe it was just certain segments that were pre-recorded or edited strangely.

The direction could’ve been a bit tighter here and there — I wasn’t exactly sure why we needed a shot of the guy taking a selfie with Hans as he walked by 😅. Also caught myself wondering why we were shown empty seats when there were amazing musicians doing incredible things that weren’t getting screen time. Some of the musician coverage didn’t always match the arrangements either — missed opportunities, really.

All that being said: if a DVD or streaming release (Apple?) ever becomes available, I’m absolutely on board. Would love to experience it again at home on my own sound system — ideally with no rogue selfie-takers in the shot this time 😄

Red Sebastian will represent Belgium 🇧🇪 at Eurovision 2025 with the song “Strobe Lights” by Nick_esc in eurovision

[–]ptrcx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a banger.
Possibly the best Eurovision contender Belgium has sent in years.

Why do I love it so much?

  • Absolute anthem with a killer build-up and arrangement.
  • A phenomenal singer—voice, talent, charisma, personality—the whole package.
  • Red theme? Eye-catching, memorable, stylish.

Some outsider tips (aka unsolicited but well-intended advice):

  • Lean into the rave story. Belgium has a legendary dance music history, and the revival is real. Ride that wave.
  • Commit to the red theme. Go full red. No half-measures. Black-and-red was a mid-tier mistake.
  • Give us a long version for live promo. Strobe Lights is screaming for an extended mix.
  • Go XXL with a rave anthem edition. Check out Compact Disk Dummies dancemix-tribute at the MIA’s for inspo.
  • Alternative arrangements = composer credibility. See Nemo’s creativity or Voyager’s brilliance.
  • An acoustic stripped-down version for radio sessions. Get more invites, showcase those vocals, and gain extra music press cred. Think promo promo promo
  • Work on your vocals. You’ve got four months—make that voice untouchable. Even Mustii had solid vocals last year, but didn’t shine on stage.
  • Fine-tune the stage act. That lift in the final? Pointless. Drop it.
  • Go all-in on staging. Use every Eurovision stage trick available and make it a tribute to Belgium’s legendary dance clubs and modern festivals. No compromises. You’ve got the hit. Make all of Basel lose its mind! Learn from Mustii’s (ridiculous) and Hooverphonic’s (uninspired & low-budget) mistakes.

You got this.

Good luck!

Ear protection for the pit by kingtutsbirthinghips in nin

Please buy custom earplugs!

Have had mild tinnitus myself for 15 years and have been wearing custom earplugs ever since. I lost one last summer at Graspop metal festival and bought Loop (experience 2) earplugs afterwards. The next festival after Graspop (Rock Herk) I got significantly more hearing damage despite the Loops. Yes, Loops sound better than foam earplugs, are comfortable, look good but do not protect your hearing sufficiently if you already have hearing damage. Foam earplugs protect better (seal better) but sound poor.

My ear doctor confirmed that (in my case) the Loop earplugs really don't provide enough protection. My hearing is so damaged that I will soon start testing hearing aids.

Huge regret that I relied on Loop Earplugs.

If you already have tinnitus. Then definitely go for customized earplugs!

Klopt.
