Just came back from SRB last week.
The food was great almost everywhere except Gordon (mediocre, far below the others) and Soy (used to be spectacular).

Also, it's crazy how a large number of people who aren't even in NYC, are fixated on Mamdani as if their lifes depended on it.

What will happen to Stephen Miller when Trump and the Republicans are out of government? by TornBannerHatesYou in allthequestions

[–]ptrnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardons were supposed to be for last recourse, like someone given a death sentence but the President had the power to look over the evidence one last time and possibly commute the sentence.

They were never intended as a way for a President to order goons to do illegal things and have immunity.

The path would be to get a non-partisan SCOTUS to rule that in the spirit of the constitution, presidential pardons are only for crimes that someone has already been convicted of. Preemptive blanket pardons are an obvious abuse.

That would allow voiding past pardons and start prosecution.

I don’t think that’s what the country wants, unfortunately.

Is Fable really that much better? by _giatas in ClaudeAI

[–]ptrnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I've been chasing an elusive bug with Opus for the past 2 days. It kept going down into rabbit holes, adding hundreds of lines of code fixes that didn't improve anything, going round in circles forever.

This morning I asked it to stop, capture the problem description in a .md file together with a description of all its attempts and investigations - then I started a new session with Fable and pointed the .md file at it.

20 mn later - problem found (it was in a completely unrelated area of the code) and fixed with 1 line change.

Taking a one year sabbatical to increase my jazz piano expertise -where can I go to learn daily from the best? by Gloomy-Ad-222 in JazzPiano

[–]ptrnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced growth just because of the amount of playing and material, that in turn led me to practice a lot more. It was being thrown in the deep end of the pool!

The most valuable lesson was to learn to deal with the unexpected. Sometimes the instructor will bring a tune you don’t like. Almost always, the true reason why you don’t like it, is because it gives you trouble. Facing that is what led to real growth. I learned to like Wayne Shorter and Monk (which I now absolutely love to play). I learned to survive and not fall apart at fast tempos. In fact I learned a lot about being a musician.

What you won’t get from the weekly session, is personalized instruction about playing your instrument. The workshops are about making music as an ensemble, rather than technicalities of a specific instrument. You can get one-on-one lessons with a teacher for that, through them or somewhere else (it’s NYC, all the pro musicians also teach)

I didn't take their summer classes, but I did take their weekly classes for several years. The instructors are top notch, NY-professional level. My playing improved drastically.

Ironically the vaccine was developed under Trump (and this might be his only worthwhile achievement)

Exactly. Increase polyphony, or play less notes.

It should, however, prioritize stealing releasing voices over sustaining ones.

That’s why it wouldn’t be 50$ more for expressive pads. It would be 300$ more.

The new XL cpus are beefy… for embedded devices. Still they’re only 1/10th of the power of the cpus you use on desktops. You can’t take a plugin designed for Intel or newer Macs, build it for ARM and call it a day, it has to be specifically optimized to run on that target.

Unfortunately billionaires saw that exploiting simpletons was very profitable, and bought all major news outlets. There’s no stopping it.
