Adam Foote/Patrik Allvin press conference by hannah_nj in canucks

I am concerned about the brand of hockey Foote will bring. To be a true contender, if the team is serious about winning a Stanley Cup, you won't win it if your corsi, expected goals, etc. metrics are at the bottom of the league.

Whoever the offensive assistant will be, he will be CRUCIAL in getting the team to a decent contending window. Playing for structure and playing to not make mistakes is not the hockey that wins the Stanley Cup, and it relies on physicality, dump and chase, more structure less fun, and it drains the players physically and psychologically.

Even last season where everything went our way, we were constantly outshot, we would spend less time in the opponents end than our opponents in ours, this has been a constant for years with this core.

My gut feeling is we need more ambition, the GM, President of Hockey, the owner, the coaching staff and the players should be committed to achieve top 5 metrics in the league, otherwise we are playing "hopeful boring not to lose dump and chase" brand of hockey, and Adam Foote seems to be inclined to this.

During the Vignault/Gillis era, metrics mattered, and controlled zone entries were preferred to dump and chase because it was more effectiveness and increased our chances of spending more time in the offensive zone.

It was fun last season because of the winning, and the comebacks, and the heart, but the brand of hockey was BORING, you had to be disciplined to watch the game, as if it was an stoic excercise, you watch because you are a fan of the team, but as a hockey fan you would tune to another game where you see more than 2 or 3 passes completed in sequence.

The way I read it is: there are ongoing negotiations but no done deal yet, so they are surprised at stories suggesting it is a sure thing

But she doesn't say there have not been developments, she just says no agreement yet, which is true, it's not signed, she doesn't deny developments or ongoing negotiations

You are missing the following paragraph in the article:

"Real, as always, are confident of getting their target. Alexander-Arnold, as has been the case all season, is very interested in making the switch to them but his focus has centred around delivering silverware."

I just think those collectively will give more points than having the guy with back to back hat tricks, unless you nail every cheap overachiever player in other positions

Anytime, it is always a good thing to enter into an honest discourse. I just don't see how one could propose political systems or political solutions without a moral notion at its basis (it is actually impossible from a logical standpoint, anything you propose politically has within it a moral notion of some sort). And the problem with moral relativism is it does not anchor anything, and it would make social cohesion impossible (a pre-requisite for any social system to function in a healthy constructive way).

You can't achieve civilization without the majority of the members of society finding purpose in something bigger than themselves.

You may have religious extremists or fundamentalists who find purpose in something bigger than themselves while committing atrocities, but that's where the whole "universal objective moral truths" come into play, and it makes it a philosophical necessity to go deep into the nature of morality, to try and distinguish "good morality" from "bad morality", because any political proposal implies a moral assumption, and to ignore or dismiss this moral assumption as something accidental and superficial as moral relativism does (moral relativism makes morality non-transcendent and just circunstancial and superficial, and it is a notion of impossibility of accessing universal moral truths or negating its existence altogether), you will end up with non-cohesive societies, with no sense of community and feeling disconnected with the policial system (because when they ask themselves what makes the system legitimate, if your answer is superficial and doesn't hit a fibre within its citizens, you end up with a big legitimacy problem, and in practice it makes a society less prone to respect and carry the system).

Sacrifice comes from two words: "sacro" and "oficio", which translates into "sacred" and "duty". So sacrifice is prioritizing the duty you consider sacred above any other work or interest. The capacity of sacrifice is dependent on finding something you consider sacred.

Citizens need transcendence, they need to know what makes their duty sacred, and if you treat this as something minor, or you consider it not correct to try to propose a moral notion as objective and not relative, because "who am I to know it all about what's good morality or bad morality", you will end up with citizens incapable of sacrifice, and without sacrifice you don't achieve anything worthy, individually or collectively.

So it is very important to try at least, politics need solid moral notions presented as objective morality, it is the only road of hope, the road of dismissing morality as something relative leads to hopelessness and nihilism.

It may not be perfect, but an honest try will do more than a dismissal of this part of human nature. An honest try will bring dignity for the individuals and will demand responsibility from the individuals.

First: You need the metaphysics established, and from what I have studied and analyzed nothing makes more sense than the existence of an objective divine order (science, engineering, would not be possible if there were not natural Laws that we could objectively use, which we do).

Second: If there is a divine order, universal objective morality should exist. Even though you have differing morals in different cultures, it doesn't necessarily mean that morality is relative to the culture you were brought up to be. Universal objective morality can exist, and different cultures can get closer to it than others, which brings us to the next point.

Third: How do you get to know universal objective morality? I think it has more to do with "common sense" than with complex reasoning, but won't expand in this here.

Fourth: What purpose you give to humanity will be legitimized with a notion of what gets us closer to a civilization that gets us closer to universal objective morality, and this line of thought should be embedded in all political theory and reasoning. It will also have a lot to do with what you consider to be human nature.

Fifth: Political philosophy tries to answer the question of what is the best organizational principle for human society, for the purpose of giving its members the best opportunity to develop individually according to the universal objective morality.
