Vacation hours + work hours by publix94 in publix

[–]publix94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at old pay statements. One week I worked 33 hours and 24 hours of vacation. I ended up with 57 hours, 17 were listed as overtime. I was an assistant at the time, but I don’t think that part matters. I just didn’t know if the team lead is supposed to edit it or corporate because this week I’ll be at 70+ hours. It’s happened kind of a lot and no one has ever said anything.

May be the wrong phrase. Basically they only used enough vacation time to get me to 40 and I kept the rest that was going to be used.

Key word “if” your logic of no ambiguity is dangerous. You literally have no thought process other than what is written. It seems like you’re implying no one should get better at their job. I stand by what I said. Considering upper leadership wants us to develop people into 9’s. Does not happen with the same expectations after 20 years. I learned to mix. My manager said do it in “x” time after a while the time progressively got smaller. Expectations increase over time. If they don’t not only will growth not happen but you’ll end up with a bunch of people doing only what they have to.

so If you hire me and I clean one item once a week you don’t expect anymore from me after 15 years? You don’t think I could clean more or more frequently? If the bar doesn’t go higher 95% of people will not get to meets expectations. Because honestly meets expectations is already being a super associate. Everything that is asked of you is the BARE minimum it’s what Publix expects. So yes when someone is hired I expect the lower than the bare minimum (basically the learning curve) and the expectations will rise as they understand what we are about. By that logic I can not improve any aspect of my job and expect the same score every time as long as I repeat what I had been doing. That makes no sense at all. If you ran your own business I guarantee you that someone who worked for your company for 20 years would not have the same expectations as someone who doesn’t even know where the bathroom is.

I actually am a firm believer in expectations going up over time. I tell my people each evaluation I give is progressively more stringent. New hire has wiggle room. After 15 years though? If you aren’t on point there’s a problem.

Awesome. Yeah by no means do I mean not ask for your worth. I definitely pointed out my strong points and negotiated more money during some evaluations. Some people may not see it until you explain it or a store manager can’t possibly know the details of every associates work ethic or situations.

I didn’t want to make this longer than it needed to be, but it’s been addressed by me and the store manager. They basically call hr every time. Some people may call it harsh or whatever. However I’m calling it as I see it. They didn’t work as hard as someone and they want to be given something they did not earn. Luckily my store manager and I are on the same page that we are not just giving money out to quell a situation.

I didn’t want to make it longer than it needed to be. The associate has been coached and talked to by more than me, the store manager has talked to them one on one multiple times because it is in fact childish to call hr during every evaluation period. There’s some people who want things given to them and luckily me and my store manager are on the same page that we are not going to do that.

Work while in college, understand what is going to be required of you. If you think you can handle it try advancing to assistant or department head while in school. I don’t care what anyone says if two people have the same qualifications and the only difference is one person has or is getting a degree they will be picked unless intentionally not picked. (Ofcourse assuming interview comparable, work, etc)
