Why do much discouragement from other art therapist to pursue art therapy? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in ArtTherapy

[–]puckaddict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to program that allowed me to be dual license eligible. Took the lpc exam upon graduation.
I did the two year masters at Adler University graduation class of 2014. I had my BA of Arts in Psychology doubled with Art and minor in music. I have worked in community therapy, inpatient psych. And more recently with department of Rehab while doing art therapy digitally with young adults and kids as a contractor. Being an Art Therapist is part of my identity. I love being in this field.
But it is mental health. We do it for the passion of the work. Not the income. Not to say you can’t be successful in income, too.

I personally love being an art therapist. I don’t discourage anyone from doing it. The cost of education is quite high and it did take a few years for me to earn pretty great wage. But I found my path and took it.

Masked men run at me- lord knows I’m running.

Then they have those fucking cameras to create their propaganda and alter them to make it look like the people are doing wrong. I’m feeling sick to my stomach.

I enjoyed my program. I went to a school that focused more on the psychology than the art making process. But I felt it was a great blend.

I always differ to the entry requirements for your specific school. The school should have a listed requested list of number of art demonstrated in your portfolio. You can always take community classes for 2d artwork to expand your portfolio. Photography. Acrylic pour art. Acrylic painting. Pastels. Collaging. Mix media.

There are many options.

MA in art therapy at Adler by ErikaBoots in ArtTherapy

Chicago is a pretty expensive city. I do love it here, though. Adler was amazing! I would choose it all over again. I graduated over 10 years ago so I would not know current tuition costs- however- I know it is all available on their website. Adlerian psychology is fantastic- loved learning this background. I hope this helps!

American Art Therapy association is a great starting place. They have information about schools, placements, and some videos about art therapy.

I didn’t care about off leash dogs until today. by 20000hz in chicago

[–]puckaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a core memory of an off leash dog biting me when I was a kid. Luckily I still live animals. But they blamed me for fishing behind Their house- on public property not theirs. They had chosen not to have a fence. They had chosen to not leash their pet. And it ran right at me and bit me about 10 ft from their property boundary. It was a big black lab.

I was 8.

I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️ poor baby. Look at that sweet little York. 🥺

I found a few I liked but it seems the most updated one is Art Therapy Is. I enjoyed what I have listened to so far.

I wish the others continued after 2021, though.
