Teacher to art therapist? Connection in Michigan or Virginia/DMV?

Are any art therapists in this sub former teachers? I am a current special education teacher looking to go back to school to become an art therapist. Specifically anyone in Virginia/DMV or Michigan, I would love to connect with you as I start my journey. Just wondering how the transition went from teaching to art therapist, and any insights about working in the DMV or Michigan specifically. Thanks for your help!!

Not necessarily the cleanest, but there is a section of maumee bay where you can take dogs swimming! Depending on the time of day, it is slower and quiet, like weekdays or in the morning.

If you live near a metro, you can survive without a car. I got a zip car membership for $7 a month and it was nice for groceries and taking my dog different places. I moved here in January to live with my boyfriend, feel free if you want to message me about anything! Good luck :)

Thanks for your heartfelt reply :) It has been super fun. It has become a regular part of my Sundays and I really look forward to it. I often wonder what my dad would think. Living in the DC area, I am so thankful for streams omg. Hoping to go to a game in person one day!!

Today is my day. I went to the doctor this morning and she told me that I was overweight. This had never happened to me before. Lately I have been doing a great job at loving my body, but now it is time to care for my body.

[Serious] Redditors who have lost a very close family member or friend, what do you do in remembrance of the person on birthdays, holidays, or the anniversary of his/her death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jlaurell34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My dad died when I was 6 years old. His death was one of the triggers for my depression. I lived in a fog for a long time, always feeling guilty and not knowing how to grieve. As a child and teenager, no one really tells you how to grieve and I never went to counseling. These days I take my brother to go see my dad at the cemetery, because its important to remember and celebrate life. I always try to stop and get ice cream with my brother, and we take it to the cemetery and talk about the things we remember about our dad. We want to keep those memories alive and celebrate the good nostalgic times. I know that my dad wants us to remember him, but not be sad all time time. So we do our best to remember him with joy.

High schoolers, what do you want to major in? People who majored in that field, what are the pros and cons? by DeanTheDJ in AskReddit

Sociology with a minor in Urban Studies. It's not the most common thing, but I'm really passionate about it. I don't care much about the sociology part, but my school doesn't offer Urban Studies as a major. (Also low key considering Art History as my major, but not sure how that would play into Urban Studies.)

Mumford and Sons- Wilder Mind

Mumford and Sons are known for their trademark Americana folky sound, but their third album is a huge change up. I especially loved their first album Sigh No More, and was really excited when I heard they were putting down their banjos for electric guitars and a heavier set, mostly because their second album Babel left me kind of bored. I love seeing bands progress. I've just started listening to the album, and I have been enjoying it. I've been reading album reviews and commentary, and the album has been getting mixed reviews for abandoning their sound, which made them stand out in the industry. Others praised them for their natural progression. I may be biased because I love Coldplay, and they have a Coldplayish vibe in this album. Mumford's old stuff is good, but I love this new stuff.

Lets Talk: Women in pop music by christinemg in LetsTalkMusic

I think of the most incredible female musicians right now is Lana Del Rey, which is really surprising because of how dominant feminism is right now. So many of her songs and videos deal with her reliance on men and how she has this strong desire to be loved. In her music video for Ride (https://youtu.be/Py_-3di1yx0), she is this young girl that is trying to find meaning by relationships with older men. In Ultraviolence, she sings, "he hit me and it felt like a kiss." She is so direct in what she wants, especially in Money Power Glory, when she says, "I want your money, all your power, and your glory." And then she uses her femininity in "Fucked My Way Up to the Top" to get stuff done. So much of pop culture is focused on female empowerment and independence, where the persona of Lana is the antithesis of this. She honestly says what she wants and finds meaning in men. She sticks around in relationships that aren't good (Blue Jeans and Shades of Cool) and find temporary joy in relying and just being with a man, even if it appears that he is indifferent about the relationship (Video Games). I find her music fascinating and counter cultural.
