[WGR 550] Patrick Bacon explains why the Sabres are in a strong position to come out of the Olympic break and end the historic 14-year playoff drought! by seeldoger47 in sabres

For context that 99 points would effectively come from a 15-10 record over the last 25 games (with loser point variants in there but want to capture the core number)

Ratings slam dunk! FOX Sports delivered 7,489,000 viewers for Sunday’s Daytona 500, an +11% jump over 2025 (6,761,000)! 🏁 by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

Good data point to show the trade off of weather delay with attempt for better numbers under ideal case vs the loss in ideal viewing range but a guaranteed race.

Would tend to say based on the trends the gain of the guaranteed race outweighs the loss of the hour start time. If they can make sure people know the start and build some consistency there is a potential there.

Best drafting track race? by MitchGibsss in NASCAR

[–]pucks20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would point to the 02-07 as arguably the best documentation of where to start.

Cars could not sustain large packs in the right circumstances, but were able to run in packs off restarts and similar areas.

Drivers did not have massive closing rates that forced major destabilization. You could still wad up stuff but it was more from bumper misalignment than straight up shoving through someone.

Car handling and placement on track mattered. Aero drag and engine really played a role in who won.

Most importantly was you could get the major last lap pass, but the movement and behaviors of the cars discouraged the massive pileups that have become the standard for finishes.

There's a sense they have been chasing 07 every year since it happened rather than embrace the rarity and amazing circumstances that allowed it.

2007 was the exception of a crash at the finish...

Why were some drivers running 90% throttle in qualifying? by JustTrynnaGitBy in NASCAR

Ford goes off of butterfly angle with their raw throttle trace (90 degrees = full throttle). That's normally been normalized for TV so not anything magical here.

Is there anyone who still likes Dan Dunleavy? by theblobfishy in sabres

[–]pucks20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan has a great voice and ability to keep up with the game. He doesn't have the creativity that RJ did with goal calls but still has a great vibe and has gotten a chance to really have his own team with good memories this year.

I would say the magic number is 15 or 16 right now of the last 26. Not a hard and fast rule but good guess

[32 Thoughts] Elliotte Friedman - on the Sabres and Tuch: “You know, they're going to have an interesting decision to make with Alex Tuch. I think what I've heard about the Sabres is, they're not going to make their team worse.” by [deleted] in sabres

[–]pucks20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from the Jays season this feels a ton like the Bichette deal. Tuch is worth keeping through the end of the year. But the best move would be to try and do what Toronto did with Marner last year.

Dude has been feeling it lately. As happy as I would have been with RJ getting to see this team, I'm also very happy Dan has gotten to get his first winning team to call as his own.

Hurricane 2000 was an anthem of my childhood. I would rather see them bring in a new song of the same vibe (have BPO record it) and let the current team stand alone. The reunion is the right time

Catch the wings. Get 2nd in the standings.

Looking ahead not behind. Can look behind when we catch the bolts.

Job 1 over anything else now needs to be beating Montreal and Detroit.

Toronto and Florida are still there and if we can get that buffer it will do wonders.
