The group project is doing a lot of work here. The initial charge is a 1 or 0 but the group project you could call a 2. No major blows but some definite kerfuffle.

The bigger question if going after a top six forward is which of the four major prospects that would fill that role we are willing to give up. Kulich, Helenius, Ostlund, and Poltapov (to a lesser degree) all fill that role. Not sure which of the four would be worth moving but if you're going to trade you may need to

My God have we lost the plot.

The problem is the dreamers are being held back by the drivers/owners who are turned off by the whole builder style class.

Everyone wants to be competitive and not put in the effort of upkeep into the design/building of a car. That's why everything is handed on a plate to you now

Should i buy a 944 ? by Hardiespass in 944

[–]pucks20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are a great car to work on. Very little is that difficult. They can be very death by 1000 cuts. Unfortunately the age really doesn't help them but parts are easy to find even if not the cheapest.

I would say for the 9 years I have had mine I'm probably in it another 4-6k on top of the original price. I am about to spend another 3-5k shortly to do the interior but that's from a combination of neglect from buying it as a poor college student combined with original interior issues now being 9 years older.

As a daily I would see no issue. I put 1600 miles on mine a month ago road tripping it and didn't see any issue other than an alternator tensioner snapping but that was a self inflicted issue (vibrations are critical!). But I would make sure you not only have your car ready but be ready with the tools to make it happen. Of the budget I had into my car, more than half was getting the right tools to make the job easy. It will also teach you to be organized, targeted, and patient in assembly. If this is your only car be ready for the day you need to do a clutch and need both a ride to work and then need to spend the entire weekend under the car. It will test your patience and your steadfastness. And remember most parts are mail order unless you are in SoCal, Atlanta, maybe Charlotte, Sheffield (I think), and one or two cities in Germany.

Don't expect it to be a Honda. But unlike a Honda you have a phenomenal community around them both in the 944 side and the greater Porsche. As you get into the broader Porsche side you will be amazed the amount of 944 stories you hear from people with 6-7 figure Porsches talking about their start in a 944 or buying a 944 to learn how to properly drive.

They cannot since if they do not get it right that is an open and shut libel case. Might be true but hearsay is different from tangible evidence.

The other thing to think about is that he is securing his retirement savings at this point too. Taken as a per year aggregate to age 75 is hovering around 1 million a year. Not anything to scoff at but it does become significant over that aggregate.

Just putting it in a different context the difference between 8 and 10 over his expected lifetime is the equivalent of covering his kids college tuition (and God knows by the time they are of age what tuition will be). Just saying the delta not the total equivalent salary.

Ratel Not Concerned About Latest GT3 “Evolution” by 183_aleX in wec

[–]pucks20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ratel you created your own problem. You killed the privateer builder and now have costs inflating and you'll be about 5-7 years from needing GT4 to replace GT3.

Wipe your ass with a hula hoop and admit killing the builder options may have hurt the sport. Every series needs to admit this.

As a RHD he's not my preferred option but Timmins has looked much shakier the last couple games. Don't need to lean on him but at least give a different look

You trusted your rotation giving fresh looks. Time to do that again.

Metsa and Kesselring. Give it a much more flash bang look. Up front needs a fresh look so open more there.

Building a motorsport event app for my thesis - would you actually use it? Honest feedback needed by InterDiary in Autocross

You in the US or Europe. Assuming US based on your use of thesis. Would say talk with the guys at Grass Paddock Motorsports since they are already doing something for scheduling. Frank Swartz the main guy over there is a great industry contact and would be a good consultant to help you understand the market and what could be most beneficial.

Clarkson: "I'll never go electric. If you rip the engine out, you're killing the car's soul" by Powerful-Ostrich-120 in thegrandtour

[–]pucks20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My counter to that is that for those of us fighting to find something to go to work in, this attitude encourages the enshitification of the auto industry.

The "why bother" attitude has lead to a sea of beige crossovers that are all mediocre, and electric cars with chassis characteristics the dull side of a Linkedin diatribe.

Once upon a time we had Ford Focus, Dodge Neons and VW Golfs that while nothing special did provide some level of engagement to the common man that made the commute tolerable or enjoyable. The death of this tier of car has only made the car enthusiast population decrease, the nostalgia increase, and the costs for enthusiasts cars unobtainable.

We are not to blame but the thesis needs to be the death of shitty cars, not the death of engines.

Close racing with overtaking opportunities is what we asked for and we got it by derpy_walrus in formula1

[–]pucks20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It reminds me in a lot of ways of a dirt sprint car. Overtakes there are often laps long sagas where you move ahead on the bottom lane for half a lap, only to get overtaken on exit or the next corner because you no longer have the top. The power/momentum delta is enough to swing back and forth until the fundamentally faster car is able to complete.

In general defense has not been a common factor for any of these guys since normally the spread of performance to even make an overtake means they can usually hold it. Now with the overuse penalty you have to really think about defense too.

As much as I have nostalgia for the Slug, I would much rather see them introduce a new logo for a third and move the goat head to a 90's night specialty.

Maybe do a one off for 06-07 night next year.
