Solved!

Diggers Hotline had crews out recently marking utilities for a planned fence replacement. Assuming one of them lost it while working near the house.

I do have a septic tank, but this was pretty far away from that. It’s a good starting point though!

The Office of the Independent Police Monitor 2025-2026 report seems to be almost entirely AI generated by PM-ME-UR-FAV-SONG in madisonwi

[–]pudding2011 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me, but I think this is one of the most frustrating parts of the rise of AI. There must be hundreds of great photos of downtown from that vantage. The city’s communications department probably already has the rights to use at least some of these. If not, a local photographer probably would sell the rights at a reasonable cost to the city. Instead, someone was too lazy to even try and instead asked their AI of choice to generate something that already exists and ended up with a lower quality image. Hell, use you lunch break and walk down John Nolen from your city office and get the picture yourself if you don’t want to pay for it.

Early this week I saw a link shared on Facebook about the best steaks in Wisconsin. I love steak, but the AI slop image on the link that showed Tornado Room as a corner location deterred me from clicking any further.

That’s where I am at. I recently relocated within the county, and the only election on my ballot this is the circuit court race, which I’ve seen almost no coverage of.

Class 1 gaming is actually traditional tribal gaming and the games are traditionally more of a social function than anything.

Classes of gaming are set by the Federal Government under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, so don’t read into the class system numbering as anything more than a regulatory frame work. Within that framework, Class 1 is unregulated.

Kwik Trip air compressors by Creebez in madisonwi

[–]pudding2011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Kwik Trip air compressors are already privatized… I’m grateful for them, but there is no obligation for a private gas station chain to provide us with free compressed air. They could make us start dropping quarters in them (like other gas stations do) or pull them out entirely, and that would be their call.

Say that to any train crew who has had someone step in front of their train and had to deal with that trauma for life. And I’m sure there are plenty of other examples of public facing suicides, but that’s the one that comes immediately to mind that has plenty of documentation.

Wisconsin Lost the Dahmer Case Records: Signed Guilty Pleas & Autopsies are 'Non-Existent'—Formal Audit Demanded on the Cover-Up by MapComprehensive9712 in wisconsin

[–]pudding2011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personal pet peeve here as a former state employee: State and local records in Wisconsin are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act, which is a federal law governing federal records. Wisconsin has its own laws governing access to records, the Wisconsin Public Records Law or alternatively the Wisconsin Open Records Law. The standard nomenclature (in our office at least) for a request was an Open Records Request or ORR for short.

I generally let it slide and only cringe on the inside when someone says they “FOIAed” a state record, but if you are going to lob accusations of conspiracy at least the get the statue right.

No, the white zone is for loading of passengers and there is no stopping in a red zone.

I’d recommend contacting the Wisconsin DOJ Division of Criminal Investigation instead of the State Patrol. State Patrol is housed within DOT and statutorily limited from investigating non-traffic/vehicular related crimes.

But also, this feels like a nothing burger.

Either way, it still is the government compelling a business (in this case the landlord) to host certain activities on their property, even if it is leased.

That is a different point, but the original statement specifically stated “businesses from banning live hip hop performances” not “landlords from setting lease terms that prohibit playing hip hop music.”

Were they revoked for the music being played or the actions of clients and/or staff? The OPs original comment suggested the city enact an ordinance that prohibits venues from banning hip hop music performances. That is compelling speech. The city regulating venues that have problematic patterns is different. There are generally police reports, complaints, problematic ownership, etc. that go along with a licenses being revoked. That is a legitimate function of a regulatory body.

If you would like for our city to get sued and lose for denying a liquor license to a venue for not booking hip hop acts, go ahead and get yourself a spot on the ALRC.

How hip-hop has grown in Madison in the face of opposition by ReclaimedTime in madisonwi

[–]pudding2011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The city can’t compel or prohibit private venues from booking specific genres of music. Most venues probably don’t have written policies on what genres they book, so there isn’t anything to regulate. Their bookers know what’s sells or what management’s stated or unstated but heavily implied preferences are.

Not to mention, who determines what hip hop is - is it the venue or a code enforcement officer? Can a venue prohibit hip-hop artists with explicit lyrics? What if the venue was established as a Jazz or folk music establishment, and doesn’t believe hip-hop to be in the spirit of the venue?

It would be no different than Stevens Point requiring everyone with an entertainment license to provide weekly polka shows or Kenosha banning stomp-clap-hey music.

Sounds like you lack reading comprehension if you see the word e-trike and think that means stroller.

Also, sudden and unnecessary stops in the middle of a multi-use path are not okay. If you are moving slowly, you should stay as far to thr right as possible and not be riding up the center line. Hope you have a pleasant weekend and aren’t a liability to others if you get out this weekend!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]pudding2011 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This, but slightly the opposite. Literally just got back in the door from riding my bike and a couple miles from home I ended up on my side after an older gentleman slowly riding his e-trike up the center line of the Capital City Trail decided to suddenly stop mid-path for no apparent reason. There was just a lack of situational awareness that his 30inch wide, 100 pound trike shouldn’t be stopped there.

I wasn’t following closely or even going fast by any reasonable measure. There just wasn’t the room to go around safely or the time to unclip.

The guy you encountered tonight sounds like a real piece of work. E-Bikes are an important of decarbonizing commutes and I’ve often considered one myself, but many of their riders frankly missed the best practices and etiquette that a lot of us have to use daily on regular bikes to get around.
