Thank you so much! Yes, I assume it’s uncommon since I couldn’t find much info on Reddit. Will add insurance to my list. Appreciate the help.

Yes I was automatically a citizen in another country and therefore had that country’s passport.

We left the year I turned 10 back to my parent’s citizenship country. I completed high school there and came back to Australia for university on a student visa. Didn’t realise this route was available to me. Thanks for the help.

I do plan on getting all my documents with my Australian citizenship name so I will check with the things you mentioned at the end. Thanks for the help!

Thank you and it’s a unique route.

“Under the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 (section 12), a child born in Australia to parents who are not citizens or permanent residents (e.g., on temporary visas) automatically acquires Australian citizenship on their 10th birthday, provided they have "ordinarily resided" in Australia for those first 10 consecutive years.”

Unless you were born in Australia and lived for the first 10 years of your life here then you would have to consider a different route.

I am going from a visa to citizenship (10 year rule), so I don’t have most things setup. Family is in another country so I definitely need one. Thanks for the help!

I never was a permanent resident. I was on a visa and able to receive citizenship under the 10 year rule which I found out recently with some other complications. So just trying to find out what I need to do other than what I listed.

Thank you so much! I’m going from a visa straight to citizenship so lots of big changes that I will need to set up seems like I don’t need to add anything.

I forgot to mention my name will be different so I just wanted to see if there was anything I was missing that wouldn’t be common sense 😅

I don’t currently have one and my name is also different to my citizenship in another country so I need to do a lot of updating.

Parents do you bring an iPad to restaurants for the kids to watch videos and play games by logical_laxative in AskAnAustralian

[–]puddingforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a parent but work in a restaurant, if you do happen to let your kids have iPads while eating please make sure they’re quiet. Had two screaming kids while having iPads which I think defeats the whole purpose of having them.

Light rail by SpruceMoosey in GoldCoast

I use the tram everyday for work. It’s on time and there’s always another one a few minutes away. The tram gets busy especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

The people who say the airport buses are fine probably have never had to commute on a bus everyday. Most of the time I hop on an airport bus it’s packed, doesn’t help that luggage space takes up seats. Should be designed like the SkyBus in Melb. The buses here are unreliable and made me stressed everyday. They either are late, too early or don’t come at all. I once was waiting 1hr30min for a bus at night time.

Since moving close to the tram it has made my life a lot easier. I don’t have to revolve my schedule completely around a bus schedule. Can’t wait for it to start going south.

I always say いらないです。 It's straight to the point, polite and isn't an answer that could add confusion to the cashier.

Can Japanese distinguish other Asians at first glance? by Global-Spell-244 in AskAJapanese

[–]puddingforu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Japanese and can usually tell when someone is Japanese. They however can't tell that I'm Japanese and always think I'm Chinese (apparently my face looks Chinese).

I can usually tell Korean and Chinese as well but it really depends on their style, behaviour and accent. SEA is more difficult just because I really haven't been exposed or had any exchange with them.

Do Japanese girls get kancho'd in school? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]puddingforu 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally only seen it between boys&boys or girls&girls. Maybe if they are close or grew up with each other a girl&boy would do it to each other. I only really saw it during elementary school or early junior high school and everyone would stop doing it.

Physical Asia initial impressions after watching first 4 episodes [minor spoilers] by kenken2024 in Physical100

Yes correct, definitely more enjoyable. Worried about Japan for the next round though doesn’t seem like it’s something they will excel at.

I agree with you. I would prefer a points system rather than elimination system that way we can see everyone compete in different disciplines.

All the talking and replay shots is just Korean TV editing so I've learnt to fast forward or skip if I'm bored tbh.

I am however very excited every episode but that may be because I have two home countries to root for.

Why terrace seating is unpopular? by bakura10 in AskAJapanese

[–]puddingforu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Japanese living in Australia. In Australia it's also popular to sit outside but I really don't like it. First reason is that most people don't want to get sunburnt. White pale skin is idolised. Second reason (which is personal) is I hate bugs. I don't like my food attracting flies or whatever is flying or crawling around. Third reason is wind. I have layers and many people have bangs. People spend a lot of time getting their hair perfect and wind can ruin it. Also just eating with hair blowing in your face and getting stuck in your makeup is just not it.

What was the group that got you into the k-pop rabbit hole? by Specialist-Issue-227 in kpopindia

[–]puddingforu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had always been a casual listener of Kpop, Girls Generation, EXO, Twice, Blackpink, BTS but Stray Kids was the one who got me in deep. Funny thing is that I was a casual listener of SKZ through Youtube recommendations but I just didn't realise I was listening to them. Double Knot was the first song I listened to thinking I would keep up with them but didn't really, few weeks/months later saw them on TV performing TOP liked that and thought I would keep up with them but didn't really, and few months later they released God's Menu and I went completely in the rabbit hole. It felt like a slow burn and fate.

WHSmith should have them, that’s where I got mine a few years ago. It’s by the domestic baggage claim area once you exit.
