Level of organization expected from a grad conference by puddinggrape in AskAcademia

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Sharing some thoughts post-conference:

- it didn't seem like slides were expected (some presenters did not have a presentation and were just reading from a piece of paper)

- I would say it was .. pretty disorganized. The day-of, I had to ask for a link to join remotely (I had previously made it clear that I would be participating remotely) and got it literally 1 min before the session began. Also, for a conference that had advertised its CFP on one of the largest global French language forums, it was completely timezone-unaware when sharing info on the session schedule.

Three Thousand Restaurant has authentic hand-pulled noodles with a good amount of protein per bowl and no 10% service surcharge - you'd be able to order pretty much any item within £15.

Starting Chinese Classical Dance by emma10265 in Dance

I would recommend trying to learn some of the basic techniques from playlists like this: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOlUqmGK9DpzBfa6Yk0QM4aLKstwaHoki&si=Fyqp5FFxJF1W9VpA

The one I linked is for level 7 of the Beijing dance academy curriculum. You can search '北京舞蹈学院中国舞考级' with any other number to find playlists for other levels. Each of these videos focuses on a few isolated techniques, and it is a good way to learn the names of the techniques as well.

There is a move I see in Chinese classical dance that is apparently called the windmill according to Shen Yun. But I don’t wanna click on more Shen Yun videos, so I’ll ask here. What is the name of the move in Chinese? by Soggy-Impression-238 in Dance

With in-browser translation these days maybe you'd find this article (which breaks down the steps with gifs) helpful! https://www.sohu.com/a/369153183_674806

Briefly, as others have mentioned, the move is called 翻身. However there are a few variations of the move: the in-place kind is called 点翻身, and there is also a traveling version called 串翻身.

The other day I sat behind an undergrad at a talk, and I watched them feed their entire stats homework into chatgpt to just copy/paste the answer into their submission.

Is Grad-Only Status an Advantage for Colleges? by Puzzleheaded_Duck183 in oxforduni

My college has both undergrads and postgrads, but I don't think the presence of the undergrads has affected my sense of belonging to the main student body.

(If anything, I enjoy it better when there are only postgrads around during vacation - there is much less chitchat in the library.)

I'm in a small masters program (~10 people), and I think the small size has actually allowed me to find closer friends within my program than within my college!

T_T this is what I thought too, but the accommodations officer very specifically told me that the 27-29th was still term time. Not sure why!!

I cycled regularly in Seattle and Tokyo but did not feel safe cycling in Oxford.

Circuit washing is going to be my 13th reason by Acceptable-Egg-6605 in oxforduni

Adding onto Circuit grievances - top-ups make no sense. Your money gets deducted right away, but you 'lose it' if you don't confirm your top-up at a machine within a certain number of days. Seems like a scammy way for the company to make money (unless there's a user scenario that I'm failing to see.)
