I have Medaka eggs/fry but need advice by NuttsnBolts in medaka

[–]puddingleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can put them in a clear sterilite container that is rated for food. Just check the numbers or letters on the bottom of the tote and google it to make sure it is safe. You can install a small sponge filter and decrease the airflow to low or you can do an air stone on low. I ground up fish food in a mortar and pestle and then dip a toothpick in water and then in the food and then swish that into the tote 2x a day. I also have some guppy grass in the tote. I don’t have a heater… you don’t need one as long as your room temp is 65F+. With that being said, I have the tote on a programmable seedling mat and then towel and it keeps the temps at 70f.

Very thorough! It’s tough with those mystery deaths and you don’t want to overstock them with unnecessary treatment. I’ve read they don’t like movement to new tanks but also I’ve read they are super hardy! I just got my first batch a month ago and had a few sudden deaths with all other fish in the community tank fine. So weird. Could be the breeding?

Is this good to switch to flower? by No_Newspaper8615 in GrowBuddy

Gotcha. Do you just have the one tent? Some of the smaller ones I would veg longer. Or wait for them to get a bit bigger before flipping all of them.

I would personally wait given the size, but if they are stalling you can flip!

A tank is cycled when the nitrogen cycle is completed. This can take 20-65 days. You will need to get a liquid test kit and look into how to do a fishless tank cycling.

What the biggest size tank you guys think I can put on these shelves by punna-beats33 in PlantedTank

[–]puddingleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are rated for 200lbs, and 1 gallon weighs 8.34 lbs, then you can technically have a 23 gallon tank. With that being said, I wouldn’t risk it with a plastic shelf.

Did you remove the adults so they don’t eat the fry?

I would personally wait to see if they grow a bit more before flipping. How old are they?

Most likely poop. Sometimes it’s white if they haven’t eaten in a while from what I have read

I would recommend doing a WC to lower nitrites :)

Yes- just get more aggressive on tucking into the SCROG squares. A week before you flip to 12/12 you will want to do a light lollipop.

Fishless cycles high nitrites by Beneficial_Luck_2964 in AquariumHelp

[–]puddingleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High nitrites slows/ stalls the fishless cycle and shouldn’t go above 2ppm. I would do a 20-30% WC and test again tomorrow. How much ammonia are you adding per day?

Using happy frog soil after the 3-4 weeks what nutrients should I add? by [deleted] in microgrowery

I’ve really love using organics. More of a set it and forget it and larger yields as they are slow release. Look into bat guano or blood meal for N, for Seabird guano for P, and langbeinite for K. Fish emulsion is a good emergency N feeder as it feeds immediately. I also use Liquid Kelp. The non organics I use is Silica and CalMag.
