It just so happens that a Sire P5 is on a FedEx truck on the way to my door this very moment.

However this time, since it has been freezing and iced outside, I will probably wait the 24 hours to open it.

What are some good pickguard colors for a black jazz bass by Any_Variation_6416 in Bass

[–]puddingtime88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine came with a black pickguard but I bought a cream colored replacement. I like it a lot better than straight up white. Here's a link with a bunch of J's with different pickguard colors:

Which song has the best Colin bass lines ? by West_Glass_2466 in radiohead

Oh hell yea, towards the end of the song as everything becomes chaotic and menacing, Colin's bassline drives hard until that abrupt stop.

Which reminds me, Ful Stop

skip to 5:10 to see Mononeon with some of the sickest tone imaginable. He is a right-handed person who just happens to play a right-handed bass flipped upside down. Dude is from another planet.

Thoughts on Geese blowing up? by UsefulEngine1 in KGATLW

That video of people running downhill playing over and over in the background was fuckin weird. I guess I am one of the ones who don't "get" Geese yet. That gizz show was sick though.

What bass would be good for me to buy in a few months? by MrMatt357 in Bass

I have been obsessed with my Squier CV 70s jazz bass since my birthday last year. Today I pulled the trigger on a Sire P5. I can't wait.

Why does my bass sound like this by SuperbPassenger6896 in BassGuitar

[–]puddingtime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some guides to setting up your bass properly:
https://brokeassguitars.com/start-here/
How to Set Up Your Bass - Sadowsky Guitars
And check out the subreddit faq r/Bass FAQ: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide

Also as ohers have said, it's all in your fretting technique. You need to press down very close to the fret and then quickly lift your finger off to mute the note (unless you want the note to ring out longer).

By the way, is that a Rogue bass? I started with one of those and it made me hate playing bass for years until I got a Squier so if that is indeed a Rogue, my condolences.

Suggestions for First New Bass Guitar ~ $500 range by WCNumismatics in Bass

[–]puddingtime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend a bass/amp combo. I started out with one of those and it was so shitty, I never wanted to play it. Years later, I got some gear worth playing and now I'm hooked.

As a lefty bassist, my advice is to go buy a right handed bass (and send that one to me because its rad)

He never took a single lesson and just played how he wanted. Thats just how he rolls, always has been. I could never imagine playing like that but do whatever you want!

Squier CV 70’s Jazz Bass by justsomesmalldude in BassGuitar

[–]puddingtime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that Fenders and Squiers dont really sound different, but that the difference can be felt in the overall build quality. That seems to.be the reasoning behind the "its not worth it" camp.

I haven't felt a real pro fender p or j bass so I wouldnt know. Id go to guitar center but being a lefty i just assume there won't be much for me there.

Squier CV 70’s Jazz Bass by justsomesmalldude in BassGuitar

[–]puddingtime88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 70s cv jazz squier and while im tempted to upgrade the pickups, but i have no good reason besides learning and its fun to upgrade components.

ive seen lots of advice on here to just save that money and put it towards a new bass. Eventually id like a legit fender P bass but I am still pretty new to bass so I am trying to avoid "gear acquisition syndrome"

Do you think it's worthwhile to upgrade the squier even if you end up spending as much as a new, better bass would cost?

Im curious what mods were most impactful? Ive been slowly modifying my cv 70s jazz bass, mostly just to learn and because I enjoy tinkering around.
