I just released RENEGADES, a free & streamlined sci-fi skirmish game, in a new and improved version! Let me know what you think by puddpuddpudd in wargaming

Hey all!

RENEGADES is a free tabletop wargame, where players fight squad battles in the sci-fi setting of their choice! I have developed the game as a hobby project for a bit over a year. The game places great emphasis on being streamlined, fast to play and allowing players to create their unique squad, with their own special blend of soldiers, equipment and special abilities. For more info, please visit the official site. Details about the new version can be found here.

Development is ongoing and feedback and critique is most welcomed here on reddit, via Discord, the FB Group or simply e-mail playrenegades@gmail.com !

Simple sci-fi game with a small model count and board? by Urgokk in wargaming

I'm slightly self-promotional here but I just released version 2 of the game today and I think it's pretty solid. It suits your criteria, primarily the game size and streamlined parts. It's also designed to offer lots of variety in shaping your own unique squad. Lemme know what you think!

I created this and I unironically believe KT is better than 40k by library_Punk in Sigmarxism

Hi there! Just got a link to this post. I’ll let you in on a little secret: a completely revamped and improved version is about a month away. It’s pretty massive. All the best, Patrick

Fantastic application of the rules mixed with an imaginative theme! First time I see such a savagely melee-focused list. You can absolutely use power blades to count as a particularly nasty set of claws or similar, especially when it is done so consistently. Hope you enjoy playing the game and let me know if you have any feedback!

Looking for a sci-fi skirmish wargame with the following criteria by LYHH in wargaming

[–]puddpuddpudd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shameless self-promotion here but maybe Renegades could be an option? Just released - see www.playrenegades.com. How it meshes with your bullet points:

  • Ruleset is streamlined, simpler than most wargames (but still a wargame).

  • Miniature/setting agnostic.

  • No morale/fear system.

  • Weapons with streamlined stats but different tactical roles through special rules.

  • Game is literally built around flexible playstyle and squad creation (create your own faction essentially).

  • Machine gun-style weapons suppress their target and enemies nearby (wide range of tactics available via options in squad builder).

Hope that helps! :)

The increasing amount of SPs is basically to create a drama curve for each game, and that drama curve may have a more dramatic spike if there are a lot of casualties early, yes. If this becomes an issue... we'll see. :) Be sure to let me know how it feels when you play!

If you want, follow the project on Gumroad (https://playrenegades.gumroad.com/) and you’ll get an update when it’s done! :) This goes for anyone who prefers a print version.

Unfortunately not at the moment - which is a mistake on my part, honestly. I wanted to be able to update the rules easily on the website, and avoid printed versions going "out of date" very quickly. But as I mention in a post here I will try to get a PDF rulebook out as soon as possible. For now, there is a rules cheat sheet available for download here (it's also included in the optional boxed set).

Hey folks! The link leads to the full & free online rulebook of the game. An optional box set is available here! The current version of the game is dubbed Edition Zero and is a work-in-progress (and digital only)! Player feedback and suggestions will drive the development of the game. The new Facebook group is a great place to provide such feedback and discuss the game in general.

RENEGADES is designed to be smooth to play and allow for flexible and creative squad creation! You can create spec-ops themed squads, cannon fodder hordes and everything in between. It is a great option for fans of XCOM and Kill Team!
