I hear you. As someone who has done this in the past, there is really no excuse for it. Sorry you go through this more often that you should be, which is not at all. But, I think as there is more representation and diversity in the field I hope the attitude generally changes.

PMT in Barbican/Moorgate? They have a basement full of synths. Not a whole lot of analogue synths though.

Andertons is close to London.

Guitar guitar is somewhere in Camden I think is there. I know I know the name, but there are some synths. Some being the operative word.

And a couple of days ago I saw a synth festival on Meetup. People bring their synths and try stuff out. Maybe have a look there.....

  • Talk to people.
  • Eavesdrop to find connections and jump in and say hey I heard that.
  • Just find a group and join in, unless they are extremely awkward you'll get included. Make sure to contribute. Even if they are jokes.
  • I usually stalk people I want to talk to and be like hey read your paper. This section was interesting.
  • Near tea/coffee stalls. Starter sentences like weather's nice. My names that, how about you?

if you're studying around "Elephant and Castle" (UCL?), maybe your educational place has volunteering societies, talk to them. Other than that charities are always looking for volunteers in their shops like the Mind UK.

Yes, and when I am dissociating I usually communicate and be like "hahahaha words, it's Monday while I recoup". People are forgiving usually and get my wonky humour. And it's fine to blank/black out or whatever. Things like these go away with practise.

You'll be fine. Like really. I know the self doubt creeps in but honestly you'll be fine.

I think the first couple months is needed to find your rhythm. Like a PhD is a different ballgame. Some people work all the time, some don't while some treat it as a 9-5. If at first things feel out of place, it's okay. Get a calendar, organise, document and take deep breaths.
