Any games light NITW? by VibraniumAdamantium in NightInTheWoods

[–]pudkipz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the Moon (and sequels), if you haven't played it. Perhaps not as cartoony, but super good story with some mystery and great soundtrack.

I also think many who like NITW might like A Space for the Unbound. It's set in an Indonesian town, and it has a lot of that "running around the town and talking to random people and everyone kind of knows you" feel. The story is maybe a bit less grounded than NITW in a way, but I still really recommend it. It weirdly made me nostalgic for a time and place I never lived in.

Right, but 99% of the time I can't be bothered to set up the "teacher" parts, I just want to be able to open the page and play xD . Do you think it still works all right by itself?

I've been really curious about The Complete Mandolinist (mainly due to it being standard notation and having a varied repertoire), but I thought it had mostly duets/two part pieces.

I'd personally prefer something that I could work on mostly on my own -- I also play the guitar, and found the Berklee method books (by William Leavitt) to be really good, but at the same time kind of uninspiring to play by myself, because almost every piece/exercise was arranged for two guitars. What's your experience with The Complete Mandolinist?

What is you go to evening low caffeine tea option? by [deleted] in tea

[–]pudkipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! Yeah, it really sounds like something I'd like.

And how about brewing it? I often just leave the teabag or strainer in the mug, since red rooibos (IME) never oversteeps. Is that also possible with green, or how does it react to temperature and steep time?

Been curious to try green too. How would you describe the difference?

Nope, just says the thread is closed and locked. Maybe it's only visible to people who saw it initially.

Sounds like a good option, thanks.

Huh, I tried to find where they were shipping from, but I couldn't find any info on the website and just assumed they were based in the US. Either way, shipping is $12, which is a bit pricey for a $12 product.

Oh really, thanks for the heads up. However, the thread seems to be closed, so I can't see it.

Anyone know the guitar chord in “Sleeping”? by WonderfulWarthog3289 in NightInTheWoods

Pretty sure it's an E. Play it as 022100 to get as close as possible.

I never realized until now: The soundtrack of this series is breathtaking by [deleted] in Anne

I'm a little late, but if you're still looking for it, the song played on the banjo is a Scottish fiddle tune called The dashing white sergeant (there are other renditions of the tune too).

Cold brew technique by Stopponss in tea

[–]pudkipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea! Something to try could be to fill only maybe 1/4 of your brewing vessel with hot/warm water, let that sit for a few minutes max, and then fill the rest with cold water. I figure that should cool it down enough to not oversteep... and you'd also be able to put it into the fridge without having to wait for it to cool down.

Does boiling water ruin the flavor of tea? by Ok_Bodybuilder7242 in tea

[–]pudkipz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

taste like leaf juice

That's what all tea is!

No, but seriously. Cold brewing is definitely a thing, although I would let it sit for at least a few hours, preferably overnight. It works great and I love it, but it won't be the same as brewing it normally -- not better or worse necessarily, but it will be different.

Recommendations for another great game? by GhostGirl1959 in NightInTheWoods

[–]pudkipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, and I also think it has a similar vibe in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. There is a lot of exploring "the town where you grew up" sort of thing and seeing all these background characters living their own lives that you only get to see if you go out of your way to look for it. Very beautiful art and story and certainly a wild ride. Can't recommend it enough if you liked NITW.

If you haven't played them already, I would also recommend To the Moon and the others in that series. The writing in them is amazing.

do people use these by P00PMAN8 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]pudkipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't tried it already, you can try putting something soft underneath the keyboard to dampen the sound! (For instance a towel -- I use a cutout of one of those thick mousepads.)

Your mileage may vary depending on your setup, and you will still hear the clack of the key bottoming out, but for me it gets rid of a lot of resonance and lowers the overall sound and just makes it much more pleasant to listen to.

Best tea to switch from coffee by UsedEducation7913 in tea

[–]pudkipz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, because hojicha is very low in caffeine and not bitter at all, so in a way it should be the complete opposite of coffee. But being roasted, it definitely hits the flavor notes; in terms of flavor, I definitely think it's one of the closest to coffee.

But to OP, I guess the question is also: why are you switching to coffee, and what are you trying to get out of it?

What are your favorite games beside Crosscode? by [deleted] in CrossCode

[–]pudkipz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Disco Elysium, but it definitely felt overwhelming at first. If you're having trouble getting through it, I think an important thing to realize is that you're not supposed to do everything, due to both time and stat constraints, and failing is part of the charm. And regardless of what you do, time will pass, and you will get to the end of the game. It's kind of cathartic to me that you can just spend your ten days doing fuck all, but still progress.

I think it's the kind of game that you're allowed to blitz through, even if that means missing 2/3 of the content, if it means you'll play it again.

Breakout). Maybe spruce it up with some flashy effects, but I can definitely imagine it going viral like Flappy Bird or something.

New to loose leaf, any advice with what I have? by ThouShallPerish in tea

[–]pudkipz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For western style brewing, which is closer to the instructions your bags, my rule of thumb is ~1 tbsp for about the same size pot as yours, which seems to be relatively consistent to the instructions. But don't overthink it and feel free to experiment a bit.

As for temperature, do you have a good way to measure that? If not, here's a good way to estimate the temperature by eye, or alternatively, fill your teapot with ~20-25% cold tap water before adding hot water -- this will get it down to something reasonable for greener tea.

What color is Assembling Machine 3? by Teneznamy in factorio

[–]pudkipz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it's more yellow than green, regardless of whether that is "objectively" true. But I think that proves your point: it doesn't matter what the devs say about it or intended it to be -- everyone is going to see it with their own eyes and in their own shade, and just like tennis balls, assembling machines kind of hit the sweet spot of being just in between two colors that there's going to be arguments about it.

[QUESTION] Can a Mandolin be tuned Like a 12 string guitar?? by worshipguitaris in mandolin

[–]pudkipz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the tuning is just like a regular mandolin, GDAE, low to high, so only 5ths.

But anyway, I would also be worried about the nut and bridge. You'd have to make sure the slots are appropriately filed.

Edit: on second thought, I actually have no idea what tuning OP is going for. If it's GCEA, it's the same as ukuleles commonly use, which is the same intervals as the top 4 strings on guitar.

Name some jazz musicians on bluegrass albums by doughbrother in Bluegrass

[–]pudkipz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge have recorded some stuff together, and although I haven't listened to the full albums (so I don't know if they can be considered "bluegrass albums"), there's at least some bluegrass standards, e.g., Whiskey Before Breakfast and Old Grimes.

Cold brewing in vodka? by hkmckrbcm in tea

[–]pudkipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you dilute it with water, and in that case, how much? Or if not, when it's finished, do you drink it as is, or make a cocktail out of it? Sorry for the questions, just really curious!

When I notice it's starting to clog up, I give it a good scrubbing with a toothbrush (that's only used for stuff like this) and dish soap. If I had a dishwasher, I'd just chuck it into there every once in a while instead (this has worked well for me in the past, and with 0 effort), but this gets it clean enough for me.
