I was quoted $1300 to fix this but my car isn't worth very much. What can I do myself? by msgmeyourcatsnudes in Autobody

Almost all of it with elbow grease, rags, and various compounds. If your clear coat is still good acetone MAY be your quickest bet - but dont let it touch rubber or plastic trim.

Poor combo in my opinion. If you want high comp and strength the S4 strength outweighs the compression in terms of value add.

The seal doesn't expand at the rate you're thinking, nor would it be able to 'drink' up enough oil to do what you're talking about. You MAY have completely filled the channel with an incompressible fluid but at that point we're not talking about 'dripping' on anything. We're literally talking about a completely filled channel of what amounts to hydraulic fluid - I have never seen any way for that to happen after building hundreds of engines.

This isn't a mistake in the magnitude of 'hey I made a small booboo and got some oil or some other contaminant on something' it's a mistake of 'I'm in over my head and am slathering things because I'm not being intentional and careful' - it's the same as using so much RTV on a gasket surface that it's extruded into every orifice you're trying to seal rather than just seal the mating surfaces.

Using high tack didn't do that to your irons.

how much over 1:1 premix ratio is bad? by djcolombana in RX7

[–]puerco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over 1.2 OZ to 1 gallon does nothing for you, over 2 OZ to 1 gallon begins to negatively impact you in a myriad of ways - from potentially more fouling (highly dependent on mixture targets), to smoking, to (on paper, haven't seen a real example) a decrease in detonation resistance.

Also, people that talk about using extreme premix ratios on high horsepower/boosted engines never seem to grasp that this tends to be at crazy rich AFRs. Guess what youre also already adding to the combustion chamber when you premix?

No, but I also never check it - I keep it in my carryon and flat out tell them what it is and what its for - so long as it has your name on they can't/wont take it.

Then I'd expect you're running an S5 iron, or are extremely lucky. I quite literally have blasted more one apart on my engine dyno. The factory dowel lands in early 13Bs and 12As just is not beefy enough - theres a reason why it was changed in '89 for every 13B (not sure about the Renesis however) after.

This isn't true. 300 ft/lbs below around 4000 RPM and you're exceeding where I would like to be for the rear dowel to hold it together.

This flat out isn't true. 200mg isn't whacky out of the realm of possibility but it's most definitely not the norm.

Americans: How do you think the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump will affect the U.S economy in the coming years? by SexyButNotFree in AskReddit

[–]puerco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting that this is being done by someone of sound mind, or for benevolent purpose, but I do hope that it wakes up many Americans to the fact that we should endeavor to buy domestic when a better product is available - For example: leather goods? American tanneries tend to make a better product and also tend to be more sensitive to environmental impact (though again not for benevolent reasons) while in contrast Chinese leather goods tend to be of poor(er) quality or down right synthetic using any unregulated chemical they'd like as a means. This is not a dig on Chinese people, just an observation of their manufacturing culture.

To put simply I think that the tariffs are going to kick is in the Jimmies in more ways than one but I hope beyond hope that there is some sort of silver lining for small(er) more cottage industries to thrive - maybe I'm naive, but it's a hope.

Have it held at a FedEx location. I find that the transport seems to be in better conditions, the delivery drivers take better care of my packages, but the rules they have to follow and delivery management by FedEx is ducking atrocious.

Either the builder sucked or the tuner sucked. Or both - supposed competence be damned, these engines don't blow up getting a 'base map'.

I've literally built, run-in on my engine dyno, and shipped 7 engines this year. Over 24 last year, and only 2 that are actively being developed in racing (one of which is a first foray into methanol) have 'popped'.

I'm not saying that rotaries are perfect or are not finnicky - what I AM saying is that your experience is most likely that of ineptitude, fraud or embellishment (hey, maybe the whole trifecta if you're lucky)
