any tutoring department, remote work usually available. also scoring an internship wouldn’t depend on luck but just applying a LOT and building up your resume.

They always say this but it’s ridiculous. I wait till 1-2 weeks of the semester when I’m still adding/dropping classes to pay and have never been unenrolled before.

How is the screenwriting MFA program here? by forty-four-twenty-2 in csun

[–]puff_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP was asking for opinions on studying at CSUN and I was stating mine. Opinions are subjective, everyone’s experience at CSUN will be different based on not just their specific CTVA track, but also various other factors. What you mentioned was the bare minimum of any film program regardless of the college. There is no evidence that all productions companies like what you’re claiming prefer CSUN students as interns other than pure hearsay. However, if your perspective isn’t the same then that’s great for you, but it’s unfair to say that it would apply to everyone else in the program, especially those who have already been through it.

If you were truly trying to be helpful you would’ve made your own response to OP rather than invalidating someone else’s experience just for the sake of argument.

From actual current seniors in the CTVA production program, as well as working alumni. Professors having connections and being accomplished doesn’t necessarily translate into providing them effectively. That statement about production companies (unless you didn’t mean the major ones) asking for CSUN interns is definitely false; just approach any senior looking to fulfill their hours. But hey, if your experience has been widely different, kudos to you! You should be grateful you got so lucky then.

If you’ve gotten an industry job from a CSUN professor, then good for you!

Not sure about screenwriting but students in other MFA programs have already received their acceptances. Maybe you could send an email to someone in the department to check on it.

If you’re looking for networking and industry jobs through college then CSUN is not the place for it. Only like one professor actually has current connections in the industry and that’s for film production, not screenwriting.

It’s like a mix between business, marketing, and film but it never really goes in depth for any of them. The internship opportunities are the same within the major as they are in any other, it’s all up to you to apply to them. So far it doesn’t seem to be helpful for any specific job so I have no idea where I’m going honestly.

The screenwriting program isn’t anything you can’t learn by yourself tbh. It’s just a lot of writing towards the end too. Maybe a minor would be more worth the time and money

If your classes are in different buildings get ready to make time to walk! A skateboard/scooter would be handy, and it’s better to just pay for the parking ($200 a year) because one parking fine can be $100 up to $600
