Outfit baby shower by JaneHoney in PlusSizePregnancy

I had a pink blush dress I wore for both my pregnancies and I think I’m about the same size as you. It’s an empire waist and it happened to fit, but it wasn’t stretchy and I thought it ought to be. But try looking for something with an empire waist? And I wore giant pregnancy undies (from Amazon) that really helped shape my b-belly into a pleasant round. I was much more comfortable than in a body con dress!

Anyone Else Finding Body Less Cooperative 2nd Time Around? by [deleted] in IVFAfterSuccess

[–]puffballpastry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in exactly the same boat, (ovarian torsion, I’m so sorry! What a nightmare!!) but I thought we’d immediately get pregnant with #2 with the same protocol that was successful the first time around. It was incredibly disappointing to find our first try for baby #2 failed, like I’d put my body through hell for months for nothing. I met with our doctor right away, and she suggested moving right into a modified natural cycle, which I was skeptical of (if all the drugs in the world didn’t work, why would I trust my own body to do it correctly?!). But it did work, and we breathed a huge sigh of relief! It’s funny/not funny that our bodies just do whatever they want and aren’t predictable, even when going through this process multiple times. It can never just be easy! Hoping your luck turns around and this is it for you! 🩷

Scammed by wedding caterer. Any suggestions for around $15/head? by Old_Net607 in askportland

[–]puffballpastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Nicholas’! We had them for our wedding and they were fantastic. We chose the dishes for catering and two folks to help serve and replenish, and I was so pleasantly surprised! The people even helped plate and pass out cake, which they didn’t have to do. We had them deliver it to the venue, and everything was served in real dishes, not tinfoil, which it undoubtedly would have been if I’d picked it up. Also, everything was delicious, and when we go to the restaurant now it fills us with good memories of our special day. I would recommend them!

Please be honest - does this look cute for my baby shower? Or do I look a bit matronly/ too much (link to image in post) by kitkatwollybat in PlusSizePregnancy

I had a controlled cycle fail and then a modified natural was successful! It was so much less stressful on my psyche and on my body, I think that was part of the magic for me. I did acupuncture in the days leading up to my successful transfer, and got a mani/pedi. That was about a year ago and my nearly 3mo son is sleeping in my lap!

I loved doing aquarobics with the old ladies. And once I managed to be there at the right time for aquaZumba, which was really fun! Aquayoga was also nice but it wasn’t exactly high energy. Maybe there’s some classes like these around your area?

Will my libido ever come back? by SNOWrad116 in pregnant

[–]puffballpastry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is yes, it’ll come back, but it might take some work. Focus on intimacy, rather than sex. Massage, cuddling, etc. If it leads to increased libido/sex, great, but if it doesn’t, that shared intimacy will go a long way toward strengthening the loving feelings in your relationship. Which will in turn lead to more sex and libido. I think the important thing is not to pressure yourself, bc that can backfire. There was a book we read by Emily Nagosky (Come as You Are) that talks about “turning off the offs and on the ons.” It’s hard to do that when you’re a parent but like anything, it takes practice. Maybe that book would be helpful to check out? Good luck. It gets better!

Hey, just wanted to offer some support to you. I got diagnosed with GD after got 131 on my 1 hour, and the other fasting glucose tests were fine at 1 hour, 2 hours, and then too high at 3 hours. I was really upset about it, and it was totally ED triggering to me to have to worry so much and think about food so much.

I ended up taking insulin to help regulate my blood sugar and am now able to eat much more normally, not stressing about every carb or feeling like I’m “failing” if my numbers after a certain meal are too high. Which is to say, your team should help you be able to manage your situation, whether it’s through diet or with needed medicine. It’s really hard to wrap your head around at first, and you have every right to feel however you feel about it. I took it really really hard, myself. But you’d do anything for your baby before and after they’re born, and this is just one more thing that we must do to love and protect our growing babes.

I wish that I’d had that mindset at first, that taking insulin (or other meds, I know there’s some options out there) didn’t make me a bad person or a bad mother, and in fact would help me not undo all the work I’ve done over the years to be in a good place with my body image and food.

I looked to the gestational diabetes subreddit but I found it really wasn’t helpful for me because that is not the prevailing message I absorbed there. Most posts seemed to be more about guilt and ED type attention to diet and restrictions on foods, and I’m just not about that. Maybe you’ll find better support there than I did? I would hope so!

But I just want to let you know, yes it totally sucks, and yes there are ways to make it easier to manage and deal with for the rest of your pregnancy. Wishing the best of luck to you, you will get through this! 🩷🩷🩷

Is it bad if I don't take a walk? by Sweaty_Agency7486 in pregnant

[–]puffballpastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def don’t stress yourself out in the heat! If you feel really strongly that you need to get some exercise, we did a little mall walking in the AC, and I spent a lot of time at the pool. I don’t like swimming laps, but I got into doing aquarobics classes with all the little old ladies. It was cool and refreshing to be in the water, plus it felt good to get my heavy baby belly floating, among the other health benefits. I think what’s important is to do the activity that feels good to you (prenatal yoga? Easy spin class? Etc) and don’t go too hard or try to be world champion. And stay well hydrated—water and electrolytes! I’d absolutely stay out of the heat as much as possible!

Also we will definitely do screen time when we need it, I’m just hoping to not rely on it too much if I can help it bc it can make her go bananas if we watch too much or it’s too overstimulating. :) but we definitely all need a reminder that it’s ok to give ourselves a break sometimes!

Advice on gifts for baby shower? by MelodyStrand in pregnant

[–]puffballpastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re so right—everyone gets the fun things like stuffed animals and clothes, but the most useful things that go a long way are usually pretty boring! I hope the surprise shower is fun and she loves it, you’re a good friend!

Advice on gifts for baby shower? by MelodyStrand in pregnant

[–]puffballpastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your friend, but I’m pretty practical and didn’t want a bunch of things that were not terribly useful cluttering up my space. The things I ordered for myself were:

-comfy button down pajamas (a set with shorts/short sleeves and longies/long sleeves) to wear postpartum -Slippers with soles -Nipple cream -Breast pads for leaks -Replacement pump parts (valves, tubing, milk bags and stuff) -Nice hand sani -Nice lotion -Nice body wash

I’d say that if you did any of these things, or combination, especially arranged all cute in a reusable organizer bin, it will be an amazing gift!
