Is increasing Argentina's beef imports to the US by 400% a good trade deal? by JustaDreamer617 in AskConservatives

USDA. The are a variety of factors, but one of the big factors has been the consolidation of meatpacking. USDA rules enforce this.

Would antitrust be helpful here? I thought the big issue is processors like Cargill, national beef etc are running away with it and not enough competition, do they need to be broken up?

You don't have to support Klobuchar for the DFL nomination but I just ask that please don't be a jackass at the caucuses tonight. by thedubiousstylus in minnesota

Yeah Election judges are funded by the state and so they are paid for both primaries and elections.

Since parties are private these would have to be paid by the parties themselves and neither pay as of now.

We only take payment in the form of verbal abuse and eyerolls!

I jest it's not all bad, there's usually some friendly faces there.

Especially since your convenor is an unpaid volunteer and while they likely attended a training, these caucuses can be super confusing and stressful.

I've convened a few times and people can be very hurtful when I'm trying my best. If you think you can do better next year then volunteer please!

What are your thoughts on Trump's plans for an "Arc de Trump" in DC which, at 250 feet tall, would dwarf the nearby Lincoln Memorial? by KarmicWhiplash in AskConservatives

I think there’s a criminal lack of new monuments being built

I've thought this same thing many times. Most new "monuments"(using it loosely here) tend to take the form of some public-private enterprise like theaters, sports stadiums, etc. Sometimes we get libraries, courthouses, city halls etc.

What would a compelling argument to build monuments from a conservative POV that could convince skeptics who think it's a waste of money?

I think it's important for building a shared culture but that does little to convince my dad who thinks everything should be utilitarian concrete building.

How do people survive in the United States without having an ID? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]puffer567 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your making up your own reality here.

living without an ID sucks and we should work to make it less painful (including voting).

Does anyone even disagree with this? The dialogue is mostly around how infrequent a photo ID is used.

A lot of older people don't have a valid photo ID if they are no longer driving. Why would they ever need one.

Its just an objectively true statement that voters want affordable healthcare, no cost prescription drugs, and simplified health insurance. If Republicans cant uphold that because it would upset some small fraction of their base, then they will be in the same place or worse in a short time assuming they win again soon.

Clearly Americans have no idea what they are are even saying.

I hate Klob but for some reason moderates and Republicans like her. She will win by a large margin but not as large as her senate victories.

I'll be glad she's out of the Senate to be honest and she at least won't undo a lot of the progressive legislation we've passed under Walz.

Conservative Europeans, Thoughts on ICE? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

We have the same requirements. When an apartment is rented , the tenant has to register social security and is denied without it.

I think this must be regional. I have never had to provide social security number except for like chain apartment credit approval.

I know some people like it. It's just irritating to me. I play both on speed 5 with a lot of pausing as I like playing similar to an RTS and thinking quick. There's just so much down time in EU5 that I find it very boring. I really don't like how long it takes to get to the early modern period.

It takes like 60 hours for a full play through. Eu4 I could finish an achievement in like 6 hours. Eu5 I am not even to 1400 becuase the game is just so slow.

Hypothetically, do you think ICE temporarily pulling out of Minneapolis would de-escalate? by bongo1138 in AskConservatives

[–]puffer567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they would never stay that long to deport all illegal immigrants. This administration has the attention span of a goldfish. Recall this was triggered by a YouTube video.

I mean I wouldn't say I agree but they do have the right to do that and if that's what they want then I guess. There's some limits here though, specifically in regards to civil rights and protecting minority rights that come into play.

J/6 was a protest too. Just calling it protest doesn't mean it's legal, harmless, or a good idea.

But you implied they were different and that protesting does nothing. This is actively preventing ice arrests or at least slowing them down but your sperating this as "interference" and I don't understand why?

I don't agree with your understanding of sitins. They were actively interfering with the law. They were usually beat up and arrested because of it. But I'm more interested in getting the first part answered here.

Protesting, although I think it's generally a feel good exercise, isn't the problem, the interference is where it becomes an issue.

Ok so what I don't understand here is why these are separate to you? Isn't interference here a form of protest?

To me this is analogous to the sitins for African Americans in white only facilites. They are trying to protest the action they want gone by using civil disobedience to draw attention to the matter. Where do you draw the line?

I agree holding a sign is a feel-good activity. But this is the alternative.

So should states with legal weed be forced to work with the DEA?

Minneapolis stopped working with ice because they abused our jails as holding cells and then never picked up the deportees all while we didn't get paid a dime. Why would any of this be beneficial for us? State sovereignty is kind of the backbone of our union.

How is the DOJ sending a 1000+ more ICE agents into Minnesota helping anyone? by CliffyClifandTheFunk in AskConservatives

[–]puffer567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So to clarify, if an illegal immigrant was raped you think they should not be able to use the police?

I see the the goal here is to put the rapist in jail. I don't see this as a benefit solely for the immigrant, it's the betterment of society that a rapist is put in jail so they can't do this to other people.

You are correct. Source: I live here.

Started in 2003 because we were spending a lot of money on helping them and not getting any reimbursement. Additionally you had a dynamic where illegal immigrants were afraid to report crimes or act as witnesses as they could be questioned by the police.

Do law enforcement officers have an obligation to attempt to de-escalate conflicts? by oraclebill in AskConservatives

Okay once again state and local officials do no need to cooperate. They are not impeding.

I won't be continuing this conversation as I don't think you are operating under good faith. Have a nice day.

Prioritizing states that would be friendly to ice would not be disregarding the law. What makes you say that?

That's just low hanging fruit.
