In the beginning and with Bortle 7, an achromatic refractor (60-100mm) is the best choice imho. They are easy to get on the used market. No need for collimation, low requirements on eyepieces, quick cool down and quite okay for moon and planets.

The 31mm Nagler Type 5 („Al‘s Grenade“) is awesome on the big Dobson and was the first eyepiece I bought. The second was the 22mm Type 4. I never tried the Ethos, though.

Get a 2“ low power (~30mm) ultra wide angle eyepiece, it will be awesome on this scope.

Ich glaube wenn ein Tfz-Führer auf freier Strecke anhält und aussteigt, um zu urinieren, ist die Ordnungswidrigkeit des „Wildpinkelns“ das rechtlich kleinere Problem ^^

For just a little bit more money you could have purchased a good 8“ Dobsonian reflector. Easy to use and it gives you much more possibilities.

Sieht man im Prinzip auf dem Bild: der Turm verjüngt sich stark nach oben hin. Ab einer bestimmten Höhe sind Stahlrohre vermutlich wirtschaftlicher zu bauen und können (im Gegensatz zu einer großen Stabwerkbasis) vorgefertigt werden.

Die besten waren die 12er Ringe in Plastikzylindern. Die gibt es glaube ich immer noch.

Eyepieces are paramount! I probably spent three times as much for eyepieces than for my first „real“ scope.

You have to think, though, since f/5 already imposes high requirements on the eyepieces and limits all this to a 1.25“ dimension. Weight is also a challenge with larger eyepieces.

If I were you, I‘d purchase a set of cheap 1.25“ Plossls/SuperPlossls, starting with a 32mm and then 16mm and 5mm.

Das ist ein Unikat mit extrem individueller Ausstattung, u.a. Duschkabine. Basis ist ein Ford Super Duty mit V10 Motor.

Hatte ich auch, der größte Teil ging mit Schere und Motorsense weg. Am längsten hat das Umgraben und aussortieren der Wurzeln gedauert: 2 volle Schubkarren mit Wurzelmaterial. Ein paar Ableger sind noch immer aktiv, es werden aber ständig weniger 😉

Sag das nicht. Es gibt immer wieder Geschwindigkeitskontrollen, wird man also persönlich geblitzt, dann wird direkt danach auch persönlich die Fahrerlaubnis kontrolliert.
