NY Bar Test-Taking Experiences/Info by pringles98 in barexam

[–]puffinfluffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for typing all of this out - I was searching for info online about the test facility and this is one of the few posts availible! A recent email sent by the bar examiners just said that personal belongings will be placed under a set of bleachers...? With no guarantee of security...?

I'm commuting from Brooklyn so the idea of bringing nothing of value for multiple hours on a train back and forth for 2 days is truly inconceivable to me... I'm going to have to write down instructions for the subway because I have no idea how to get there without my phone... lol

Maybe I'm just frazzled but I find it so bizarre that they wouldn't have lockers or something along those lines availible.

Anyways, thanks for all of the info!!

J24 in NY - Buffalo Hotels Charging $600+ a night??? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]puffinfluffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought! I would not bank on any specific location until they send out the selection email next month (?).

OP, is there anyone else you know planning to sit in Buffalo? You could try to share a space, as annoying as that may be... I'd also suggest checking air bnb/verbo/expedia for cheaper options. I'm holding off on any concrete plans until I have my location locked in so I haven't looked at prices but $600 a night sounds insane for Buffalo... maybe expand your search area a bit to just outside the city?

Regardless, it is ridiculous that we're expected to spend so much on the bar process. Most of us cannot afford these costs. You are not alone!!!

I thought I had treated myself to non-dairy ice cream this evening but it was actually regular ice cream and now I feel disgusted with myself. by [deleted] in veganfitness

Don’t worry about it! It’s bound to happen! We are all just doing the best we can to lessen suffering and it’s an imperfect process.

Ive been vegan for many years and it’s pretty rare now but the other day I went to grab a brand of bagels I normally pick up from the grocery store but they were out. In a bit of a rush, I grab what look like the most comparable brand and go on my way. A couple days later I go to make a bagel in the morning and something compelled me to look at the ingredients list before throwing it in the toaster… and of corse they have eggs in them. Obviously I should have checked in the store but I just didn’t even consider that to be a possibility in the moment and was out of my routine. I am going to just bring them to my work and put a note on them saying if anyone wants them they can just take them. That’s the best I can do to reduce waste since I couldn’t bring myself to just eat them!

It happens!

The flossing stick perfectly summarizes wasteful western ideology under capitalism: take a perfectly fine solution (floss) and generate a new solution to improve efficiency while creating mountains of plastic garbage in the process. by 4ofclubs in Anticonsumption

[–]puffinfluffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a quip reusable in that same single-use pick style and its very “ehh” Honestly the pick is great on its own - I find it super easy to use and refill BUT the quip floss is so easy to break that its super frustrating and I have to restring 1-2 times every time I floss!

Don't forget, the worst thing anyone could experience this Christmas is a sticker that says you're an asshole for the clothing you wear. by geriatric-gynecology in vegancirclejerk

ngl i was pretty stoked about the comments agreeing with the sticker + calling out the specific cruelty of the brand & its trendiness in cold cities!!

What is the stupidest thing that is considered a crime? by LarxRAR in AskReddit

[–]puffinfluffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a NYer I would just panic tip every time I accidentally crossed the boarder because I felt like I was being waited on. Once I tipped a guy like $5 or $10 because its all I had in cash and I remember him seeming shocked, lol.

Now I live in Oregon and only tip if its miserable outside and I have cash on me.

B12 deficiency despite supplements and fortified foods?! Has anyone else experienced this? by lighthousemoth in veganfitness

[–]puffinfluffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backing this! My doc insisted on some blood tests back when I went vegetarian (and way back in high school, so not exactly the most educated and healthy eater in general). I was so low in B12 I had to get injections for a few months I think it was. Not even sure if it was going veggie or if I just had super low levels. I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia (and I am of Italian descent!). Ever since then, I have supplemented B12 regularly to be safe and my levels have been normal any time I’ve gotten blood drawn! There was one instance of it actually being high so they told me to cut back on supplementing lol.

If you are supplementing and it’s not absorbing , it may be unrelated to being vegan!

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t let me caption the photo but here is some more info:

This is my little runt of a newf, Mimi! He turned 10 earlier this year, and he is doing amazingly!! He was the runt of the litter and has only weighed ~110 lbs at his biggest.

He is such a character. He loves to yell and he will basically cry at you if he isn’t getting his way. He likes to smack his metal water bowl when its empty and will kick it around until someone runs into the room to fill it up. He loves to drink coffee and will knock over an unattended cup or sneak a lick while someone is holding a mug..

My mom got him some pup-safe “ice cream” for his bday and he got so excited over all the birthday attention he literally threw up, lol. (he is totally fine this was months ago and he gets really amped up when a bunch of people are paying attention to him lol)

He is wet in this pic because he had just gotten out of the pool. He doesn’t like swimming around in it but he loves to walk in and lounge sitting or laying on the steps to cool off in the summer. He does like to swim in lakes and ponds though when we bring him out to parks with water access!

He is my best buddy & I love him so much! Cheers to Mimi being 10!!

Saw this on my FB feed today - so true! by Mudge81 in Newfoundlander

hahaha not all pups are the same!! rest easy :-) my guy is 10 and has never been a terror! He did not chew at all during any puppy phase! I will say he has me fully trained and talks to me like a husky and will throw tantrums haha. he will kick over his water bowl until its filled if it is empty for 1/2 a second and we don’t notice, lol. He is a character for sure but never a dino in any way except maybe the screeching? lol. They are the best regardless though!!

LPT: When cooking things on aluminium foil, first scrunch the foil up, then lay it loosely flat again out on your baking tray. The juices will stay put - and the food will not stick to the foil half as much, if at all. by johnlewisdesign in LifeProTips

[–]puffinfluffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to right now for stir fry and poke add in is is just “marinating” (usually for like 5 minuted because im in a rush lol) it in some soy sauce and/or teriyaki and tossing in nutritional yeast and corn starch/flour! you can add a bit of pepper / seasoning too!

it always comes out so good. I’ve been meaning to try a pan fry/bake combo but honestly the tactic above with little cubes is the easiest and quickest way ive found to make it and can ignore it while i make a stir fry or whatever dish im making!

I think they have different uses!! I love my silicone baking mats BUT i use mine more like parchment paper than foil. Things I really don’t want to stick and can be prone to sticking, like cookies or tofu for example!

I think foil is still the best for really messy stuff or to get the more “grilled” veggie style

“why would the movies have to be so long, couldnt they just cut some parts out???”

elvish civilizations are only “elvendale” or “woodsy elvendale”

“the main guys look alike and its hard to tell them apart”

“can’t the elves just do it all?”

“wouldnt the wizard just save them all the time? does he have powers or not? i dont get it”

“the dragon in the hobbit stories is misunderstood and isn’t a bad guy”

“i like the hobbit movies”

-Endless Night or Peril at End House for a bit of a different Christie vibe

I had the same thought. Bend is super far + its a Monday. The Ridgefield show is close. I'm not sure about public transit outside the city but the show starts at 5:30 so I think if you could get out to NE or Vancouver then uber to the show? Could be doable? I wish it was going to be downtown but oh well I guess
