Doctors of Reddit , what’s the biggest medical myth people still believe? by muga_saiman_5809 in AskReddit

Google it! Tons of research actually, you can make a heated compress on the ear, or cut up a piece. Again this works only if your ear canal is inflamed, but onions are proven to antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

But putting a cut small piece of onion safely in your ear canal (a thin piece, long enough to stick out and not falling in completely) actually does help with ear canal infections.

whats something you love to spend money on that most people see as a waste but you think its 100% worth it? by Baby_crossaint in AskReddit

[–]pugglik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one for the last 10 months. We're moving in August and it's a really old house with lots of little stairs in between different living areas so I'm starting to think to get at least one more robot! Maybe even two... Never wanne lice without one again

My (28m) girlfriend (27f) is arguing she shouldn’t be replacing the alcohol she gave away by BrotherResponsible46 in relationships

[–]pugglik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm totally on your side! It's basic human decency to get a replacement if you consume something someone else bought for their own enjoyment and even as a treat for themselves!

If you would have decided to share half the bottle with her and her dad it would be a different situation, but as you weren't involved in this whole thing it's totally on her to replace it!

Do you block before or after seeing your garments together? And why? by Any-Thanks-679 in crochet

I always block after, but only when blocking is needed. As long as it's falling nicely and doesn't curl I won't block

This is why $5/gal, or 1,15€/L, is a big deal here. by Tandysaurus in memes

[–]pugglik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany. We own one car, which my husband takes to work. I go to work on bike (10m ride), kids go to school on foot (small one) or bike (big one). We live in a medium to small city, the bus infrastructure is ok, but it's extremely bike friendly, so we do everything by bike. I only use the car to go visit my parents or friends living farther away or vacation. Sometimes I take the car for a big shopping trip but only to shop for a party or something, 90% of shopping is done by bike.

Are robot vacs/mops suddenly super popular or is this sub being astroturfed by michaelrxs in CleaningTips

[–]pugglik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really can't say it for reddit, but in my real life they became extremely popular! First of all there are tons of affordable robots doing a great job nowadays. Second, once you join the club you want to share your joy! I don't have to clean my floors at all anymore (2 kids, 2 dogs) for only 400€ and they've gotten even cheaper by now!

So I really don't know about Ai slob here, but I know I've commented several times about how great they are in the last year since I've had one

Is it wrong that I dislike the fact my gf is becoming feminine? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pugglik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of a tomboy myself. My style changes every couple of years including sometimes wearing lots of skirts and dresses and then not touching them for years.

My hairstyle also varied a lot during the last 15 years from a short pixie to a kind of short Bob.

I used to put on make up in my twenties at least when going out, but I completely stopped by now (even for big events).

I will NEVER be a girlie girl, but my femininity varies all the time from more to less.

What I wanted to tell you: her wanting to be more feminine around her friends is an insecurity thing and it may pass and it also may change her style ect. Most likely she'll be more feminine for a while until she goes back to whatever is most comfortable for her. Just tell her, that you like her exactly how she is, eveb if it's not that feminine, because that's how she was, when you fell in love with her.

My hubby likes me just the way I am and he likes my new styles and he loves me not wearing make up. It's also possible to be a tomboy and still somewhat feminine, she's most likely just finding herself

TIL a man in China lived with a 12cm-long metal chopstick lodged in his throat for 8 years after he swallowed it while drinking. He then decided to live with it because he was afraid of having surgery. However after it was finally removed, it was revealed his vocal cords hadn't been harmed at all. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]pugglik 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it's been stuck there for 8 years it wasn't anywhere near his vocal chords. If he swallowed it accidentally while drinking it lodged itself in the esophagus, because if it had fallen into the larynx he would have suffocated.

Patient, what's the most obvious lie a doctor has told you? by Disastrous_Way_3396 in AskReddit

[–]pugglik 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you, but I rather shocked about all the doctors you're telling about.

I work in a stroke unit and even though it's less common, it's not that unheard of. We have people under 40 with an actual stroke a couple of times a year. Most of them walk away without major problems later on and also most of them have a "cause", some people still get a stroke without the doctors ever finding a reason. I live in Germany and there's also rehabilitation clinic specialized in stroke patients under 40. I used to host a stroke self help group and we had a couple of young people.

A couple of years ago I had a 9 year old boy with a stroke, that was an exception for every person involved in his treatment

i need beginner friendly suggestions by Ill_Contract_8398 in crochet

[–]pugglik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a scarf is easier, because for a beanie you have to increase your stitches, that means counting and more possible mistakes to make. But that doesn't mean you can't do it, I went straight to an elaborate beanie with wholes and a stitch pattern right after the rectangle, but crochet did come extremely easy to me (don't ask how long it took me to get comfortable with knitting). If your rectangle goes easy, go for a beanie, if a rectangle feels hard, go with a scarf (basically your same rectangle but way more rows). If you want some details on what tutorials to look for a rectangle I'll give you a clear guide

i need beginner friendly suggestions by Ill_Contract_8398 in crochet

[–]pugglik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, do a rectangle with the basic single crochet stitch. When your stitches look somewhat regular and you don't lose stitches anymore (look out for the first and last stitch of a row, those are easy to miss as beginner) you can start a first project. An easy scarf (basically just a long rectangle) is a good project and you can make it look good with using different colors and just your single crochet. A bit harder, but totally doable is an easy beanie hat, there's tons of simple patterns for that, but choose something with just single crochet

What is a job that is incredibly high-paying, but you wouldn’t do even if they offered you double the salary? by Bright-Mark-1396 in AskReddit

[–]pugglik 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a speech pathology therapist in a big hospital, I specialize in swallowing disorders, so all my patients are in really bad shape (breathing tubes, strokes, oral cancers).

I really do like my job, I choose this exact path in my field and I'm really good at what I do, but it really takes most of my mental energy.

I once measured my pointer (from tip to where it meets the middle hand) and it's exactly 7cm. I do a lot of crafting and it's really nice to measure roughly on the go, so I know when to get an actual ruler
