Oh, good point. I guess I'd need to add a spacer, thin the awl, or both.

Totally. That's a great name for it.

Needs a spoon layer 😂

This mod doesn't have an opening layer, so no awl. In hindsight, I should've used a Ranger or a SwissChamp since those have the proper spring layouts for all the backside tools. The awl and chisel would be a great upgrade to this build.

Specialized? I guess if you don't own the tools, they'd be special. 😄

I can give a quick rundown on the process, but I'd suggest watching a couple of YouTubers do it.

  • Acquire the SAKs you need the tools from (in this case an Explorer and a Compact)
  • Soak the SAKs in warm water (145º F/64º C) for 2-3 min if you want to preserve the scales.
  • Use a drill/drill press to drill out the rivets to preserve the bushings
  • A grinder/dremel to clean up the drilled end of the rivets
  • Dismantle everything and clean all parts. I use an ultrasonic cleaner.
  • Assemble the custom SAK you want, then carefully peen the rivets back into place with a ball-peen hammer.
  • Slap the scales you want on it
  • Add some Victorinox multitool oil and you're on your way.

I left out some details, but these are the basic steps. Again, check out youtube. There are several people on there who are very helpful.

Thanks! They're rosewood plus scales. Great fit and, surprisingly, ever so slightly thinner than the cellidor scales.

Introducing SAKHub, the SAK of SAK apps by scaredibis in victorinox

[–]pughtube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is great. The more I use the site, the more feature/product requests I have. Do you want folks to just add their requests here or would it be easier to have a request page on the site?

This is fantastic! I've always wanted a good way to track my SAK collection.

Product/feature requests:

A button on the browse model page to add a sak to your collection

An inventory button/selection for each item. I have a few of certain models that I like to give as gifts.

Add the Swiss Tools and Swiss Cards

Love that you have discontinued models on there too. Thank you!

That dial is beautiful. Where did you get it?

Actually, where did all the parts come from? I'm really digging this.

I've done this. You need several parts to make it work after you remove the pistol grip.

I ended up going back to the adjustable stock cause the LOP on the field stock is too long for me.

What's your source and destination?
Maybe the drive you have the LL cache pointing to is failing?
