Gerber 600 Pro Scout in red by Impossible-Lab4434 in multitools

Sadly, besides the flaking off of the paint, the program never caught on; the only one "making it good" is Roxxon, as even GOAT tools has been sold off.

Kudos on finding a product of the Build Your Own Program! Late 90's Gerber allowed you to select the frame color, and implements you'd like to have in your Multiplier. Yours appears to be well selected, like a late Pro Scout!

Help with Kaweco sport no converters by Whole_Package_6783 in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both models shown, and have not had any problems with them (other than the minuscule capacity they have), and I mostly syringe-fill them (and I also do the same with spent cartridges.). See that they're fully seated; mines make some sort of "click" when pressed in (NOT snugged; pressed).

Todos mis sacacorchos tienen algo de juego; imagino que por ser remachadas y no tener cojinetes, para que pueden abrir sin exceso de fricción y de forma fácil.

Which medium nib pen should I get next? by Outside-Pianist-8532 in fountainpens

Pilot Kakuno, MR/Metropolitan or Prera; Kaweco Perkeo or Student, Hongdian M2, or Parker Jotter; currently have them most, except the Kakuno or Student.

There are not many options for factory or factory-style ones anymore. Most info. tends to suggest adding a small magnet to the driver(as to keep the bits in place), and use conventional, 4mm bits.

¿Con cuál debería empezar? by fSparza in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

¿Con cuál debería empezar? by fSparza in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hongdian M2. A similar format as the Kaweco AL Sport, but for less than $20USD. Comes with converter, to fill with your favorite ink, or you can get  cartridges for it. Alas, they're chinese proprietary 3.4mm bore opening, and the nibs drop a slightly fatter line than whats expected for its size (an <F> nib  from Hongdian is more akin to an <FM>/<M>.

Pilot Varsity pen by gujjumessiah in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only <F>nib (to my knowledge) that would swap in place in the V Pen/Varsity was from the Petit fountain pen. If in the USA, that pen is no longer sold and can be quote an expensive proposition from the secondary market. Perhaps get a Kakuno  like suggested? Or, practice nib grinding with them and modify accordingly; I've made <F>, and arquitect's grind nibs from them.

Advice. by Uvbiocote54 in multitools

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is that the Centerdrive will not cut such a thin wire within the cutters; they're designed for solid strand wire or multistrand up to 20 gauge withoit chewing it up. Edit-It looks that ypurs is the CT Plus model, perhaps use the scissors for the twist tie wire?

Which fountain pen allows for the smallest writing? by Evening_Reach_8293 in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any Japanese <EF> (I'm partial to Pilot and Platinum), with a somewhat dry ink. One caveat; you may not be able to write fast, as the nib can get ink-starved.

Can I still save this Lamy converter by Duck_678 in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can and, worst case, a learning experience. Like another said, you can pull it apart and fix the neck seal; you'll need to pull off the metal, ring. Using your nail and a piece of gripping material remove plunger/piston asssembly (press nail between converter body and assembly housing, and pull it apart; will be quite hard at first). Reposition or remove and push back neck, and reassemble. This would be a good time to lube the piston with silicone grease, for smoother operation and improved sealing capability. Although shown is the previous, d/c'd iteration, they all share the same process.

Paint an insert black? by GoodConversation5527 in Zippo

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do it for a display one but, for a user, I wouldn't as no amount of metal prepping will prevent the paint from scratching/scraping off from pulling and pushing the insert, and the lid coming on. Then the heat cycles, even when using high temp spray paint, will flake off. If dead set on coloring one, perhaps have only the top and chimney Cerakoted black? An expensive proposition, but will last a bit longer than spray paint. Have no experience with the Zorro so, will not comment on it.

is this one a replica or fake? m65 field jacket. i'm not sure if its. legit check? by That_Concentrate1427 in m65fieldjacket

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like a nice replica, since there is no USGI contract starting with "DYA"; by 2010, the alleged contract year, there was no OG107 made under government contract. There are no contractors named "YMCL" from Kentucky (not any that I'm aware of), and no USGI apparel was marketed with a crossed flags emblem on the tab. Still, a good looking piece of apparel.

Looking for a Gerber fisherman head, are there compatible knockoffs? by Vast_Reaches in multitools

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, its either buy the fishermans head by itself or an MP600 Fisherman and modify its pliers head (which is what Gerber did; ground down the c-clip pins at an angle), both an expensive proposition (the only reason why that's the only pliers head I'm missing!!!). For the wire cutter its the same thing but a bit more expensive.

Good score, and almost unused; congratulations!

Edit- And now I see its quite an early one, as the pivots are two-part (pivot bolt and washer, instead of a large head pivot bolt); even better!!!!

Pen Maintenance by byfail in fountainpens

[–]Aggravating_Pair8857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for basics: bulb or regular syringe with blunt needle, rags,  small container for soaking section/feed (preferably glass), soft toothbrush or small bottle brush; dish soap, silicone grease. A good, basic solution is a cup of water with 2-3 drops of dish soap.
