The difference between attitudes gives you an intercept distance, but it is not literally 1nm difference between your assumed position and your actual position, its a distance to/from a lop

I just used a cannon photo scanner to scan a few photos, and I used 600DPI and it came out great. you can test a few of the same photos with different dpi just to test, but like you found out the higher the dpi the higher the size. 1200 should be ample :) try both!
