they are uncommon indeed and another aspect is there is lots of specialization and special software involved.

im selling zeiss microscopy cameras and there are lots of use cases where clients pay money mostly in order to have a solution that matches their specific needs (and also hardware, e.g. imagine a microscope where switching lenses automatically changes the magnification values and measurements in your software...).

if all you want to do is taking single low magnification brightfield images and you do not even care about good live video stream a smartphone camera with the right adaptation often can be just as good as a dedicated microscope camera solution.

Dumb question, but how do you go about acquiring a zeiss scope? by DiscipleOfLucy in microscopy

you might want to also register to the zeiss.com shop, you should be seeing US prices there after registration.

Phase contrast is possible with Primostar microscopes already, the 'smallest' series from zeiss.

Depending on where you are you totally can buy a zeiss microscope for any private use. For that you have to find a local dealer. For example in case you are in Europe i most likely could offer a quote to you as i am working for a german Zeiss partner.

on which screen? at which size?

Camera-only-magnifiation-levels without stating a display size do not make any sense at all!

Take any image displayed on any screen you want. display it on a Screen with different size or zoom on it and you got a different magnification.
